Escape to the beauty of 270 acres in Wine County and enjoy a rural retreat overlooking stunning mountain views of Pritchett Peaks and distant views of Lake Sonoma. Enjoy the peaceful sound of nature and watch the cows graze the oak studded meadows beyond. Relax in Adirondack chairs as the night sky unfolds. King beds, wifi, smart TV. This is the perfect getaway from a hectic urban life. Enjoy the walking trail to Lake Sonoma, and the 30 minute drive to the Russian River.

The space
This rural property, 27 minutes from Healdsburg, houses two homes situated between a large orchard on very private land. Our nearest neighbor is one mile away. This listing is for the larger home designed with expansive open beam wood ceilings throughout. The lower level is a barn and the upper level is where the rental is located. The rental has all the modern conveniences of a new home. The bathrooms are newly remodeled, the kitchen is packed full of amenities and there are beautiful views from every room. The upper level covered deck has a propane BBQ unit and an outdoor table for dining. For accessibility considerations, there are two chair lifts, one at the interior stairs and one at the exterior stairs.

We are in the heart of some of the finest wineries. A 10 minutes drive downhill will net you a plethora of wine tasting rooms. If you have a hankering to dine at one of the 5 star restaurants in Healdsburg, the 19 mile drive down scenic Dry Creek Road will take you there.

The house has 4 bedrooms and a loft. The loft opens to a narrow staircase and the lower level hallway. The loft has 2 twin beds. On the main level there are also two pass-thru rooms. One is set up as an office with a large reclining chair and the other is adjacent to the living room. It is very important to note that this house is not childproof, so please keep that in mind. There are decks on the north, east and west side of the upper level. Consequently there are many ways to get from inside to outside and outside to inside.

Where you’ll be

There is an unmarked trail that leads down to Lake Sonoma. It is not for first time hikers. If the host is available, she would love to show you how to get started on the trail. It is possible to drive to the lake, but not from the property. At the marina, there are many opportunities for fishing, kayaking, jet skiing and horseback riding.

My husband, Pedro, and I have been married for over 3 decades and we have 3 wonderful adult daughters. He is a general contractor and I am an architect. Several years ago my father, my siblings and me decided to create a family business on land which has been in the Barnes family for over forty years. It has been a lot of fun working to achieve this goal. We are now at a point where we can share this incredible legacy land with others. Please visit our listings to see both homes located on the property.

During your stay

When possible, my father will come up to interact with the guests and especially children who may want to feed the cattle.

Some important information:
There are a few owner's closets that are locked.
The barn is off-limits unless prior arrangements have been made.

We are off-grid, which means we do not rely on PG&E but rather we rely on the sun, PV panels, batteries and a back-up generator. This means we appreciate people who come with an interest in energy conservation, because when we practice simple measures, the generator does not come on in the middle of the night. By simple, this means DO NOT run the dishwasher during the night and, on the hottest of summer days, when AC is needed, turn off the AC units when the sun goes down and temperatures drop into the 60s. Our guests are surprised to find how well the house is designed for natural ventilation. Once the doors and windows are opened and the tower and ceiling fans are turned on, a most pleasant breeze comes into the home. Please note that the loft has a fan, but no AC, so by nature it is warmer than other rooms in the house.

There is a fenced in 3 acre area around the buildings and orchard which keep the cows at a distance. DO NOT KEEP ANY GATES OPEN AROUND THE COMPOUND. Cows are big and though they don't mean to, they will destroy landscaping simply by walking on top of plants. If this happens, you will need to call us right away. But hopefully you will learn quickly how to be a good rancher. Good ranchers always keep gates closed!!!!

RE: INTERNET USE:
Gaming and other interactive platforms are not possible on the rural internet. Zoom calls are doable, but expect intermittent interruptions. For rural internet, it is actually far more reliable than most. Meaning we have excellent latency but lousy upload and download speeds. Netflix and other movie streaming are pretty darn solid.
