The Space

********************Update: 03/26/14*****************

Thanks to Hurricane Sandy, my house had a good sized tree fall through it. It's all patched up with a little upgrade but it is still breezy and "rough". It should be completed by end of March, I hope.

I didn't allow guests to stay before, but apparently I still get requests. As you can imagine, I am bleeding money thanks to my slow-to-act insurance company, my money hungry mortgage company, and power-tripping township so I will reopen to fill the needs of my guests (and my financial obligations).

............................FAQ's................................

Q: Can I stay at your house?

A: Sure! If you don't mind the construction noise in the daytime. The rooms come with space heaters and air conditioners. The bathroom works fine and even has a built in heater as well. Just give it a minute to warm up.

Q: What else was destroyed?

A: At the moment, everything you see in the living room picture. Also the washer and dryer is out of commission. Use of living room, garage, dining room, and basement are prohibited.

Q: What works?

A: All the kitchen appliances are up and running. So is the internets. I did add TV's and Blu-Rays to the rooms as well (Netflix, No cable, Over the Air Channels).

Q: When will everything be fixed and back to normal?

A: After months of fighting with my insurance, I finally got the funds cleared to fix the place up and now my township inspectors are on a power trip to delay my progress each step of the way! Ugh! I am expecting around end of March before things are back to normal with some upgrades (like an extra bedroom to rent!). Stay tuned!!!!

Now back to your normally scheduled description.......

Interaction with Guests

.........[........ABOUT ME........]........

I'm a product design freelancer with a part time job that pays my health insurance (times are tough!) and part time student. So I'm in and out at times. I'm pretty laid back and quiet. I can show you around if you'd like by bike or car when I'm available. Got a couple of bikes to rent if need be (Sorry, last person to borrow a bike crashed it and had to ruin it for everyone!) But other than that, feel free to use TV (no cable, but I got Netflix on the XBOX 360 and plenty of DVDs), washer-dryer, stove, whatever or even some of the food in the pantry.

The Neighborhood

...........[......... GETTING HERE......].............

I have run the numbers for many guests. If you are looking to stay local (New Brunswick/Piscataway/Edison) with the occasional run to NYC, this place is for you! I prefer to book mostly grad students / interns / medical residences for the semester as there are many universities and hospitals in the area. Spring 2014 is now available!!!!

The nearest airport to my house is Newark Liberty Airport.
From the airport you can reach my house by:

[ Method / Time / Cost ]
------------------------------------------------------------------
Train / 1.5h / ~$10
Bus / 2.0h / ~$10
Rental Car / 0.5h / ~$60 a day plus gas

JFK and LaGuardia Airport is a bit more tricky as it requires more transfers and you might be better off staying elsewhere.

......[.....LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION....]......

So you get into NJ, now what?

I am located near several major cities*:

New York City (1 hour)
Philadelphia (1 hour)
Rutgers/New Brunswick (15 minutes)
Edison (15 minutes)
Bridgewater (15 minutes)
Newark/Union/Elizabeth (30 minutes)
Princeton (45 minutes)
Infamous Jersey Shore (45 minutes)
Six Flags Great Adventure (1 hour)
Atlantic City (2 hours)
Washington DC (4 hours)
Baltimore (3 hours)
Boston (4:45 hours)

*times listed are estimated by car.

Ok, ok, ok, I'm near there but not quite there, but my place is a great jump off point for long term stays. Don't like the big cities, not a problem! My town is quaint and has plenty of family owned restaurants, shops and farmer's market near Middlesex and Dunellen. Forgot something? We also have Walmart, Target and 3 major shopping malls within 20 minutes! Check out my complete guide around town by clicking the Guidebook in the upper right hand corner in my other listing!

Getting around

NJ is a great place to live but public transit within NJ towns is not robust. If you need to get to one small town to the another, public transit will send you on an adventure as it will route you through the nearest big city (Newark) and back to your destination.

If you need to get to NYC, that is much easier and faster to do. Both the bus and train take you there under an hour.

If need be, I do offer a car to rent as well through another reputable website. I have a two by two paved driveway with plenty of grass next to it to park.

Other Things to Note

........[.......BEFORE YOU BOOK.....]..........

Please include a description of yourself and the reason you are visiting the area so I know who is staying under my roof. Also include in your inquiry the number of guests who is coming too. If you do not have any reviews on Airbnb, please fill out your profile and verify your account (with a social media website, Offline ID, Passport, maybe even a reference) under the "Edit Profile" section. If not, I may ignore your request. No one wants to a complete stranger in their house with no reviews or an incomplete member profile. A picture of you too helps so I know who to expect at the door.
(Sorry, got a lot of spammers lately, hence my lower than 100% acceptance and response rate....)

I don't know why I have to state this but this listing is just for Bedroom 2 and not the whole house. That means you have to share the bathroom and kitchen. I keep having to answer this question.....

  • Aaron was great and accommodated my late arrival. Thanks again for the trouble-free stay.

  • Stayed for 5 nights. Had all the privacy I could ask for. Clean room and clean bathroom. I never saw my host. Either he was gone or we just missed each other with our schedules. Thanks for opening your home! Great place to stay!

  • Aaron's place was exactly as he described it - it's in the process of renovation after being crushed by a tree. So it was a bit cold and cluttered, but the bedroom was nice and warm, the kitchen and bathroom worked. The mattress felt a little lumpy, but after I rolled up in the covers it was fine and I slept great. The main thing was an inexpensive place, rented on short notice and just where I needed it.

  • I needed a place to stay for the night on my way to Washington, and this place was perfect just for that - even though the house itself is still under repair, the bedroom and bathroom are in perfect condition.
    Thanks Aaron!

  • Aaron's place got hit by Sandy, but I didn't need to use the living room, so all was fine with that :) I mostly just needed a place to crash for a bit in between my mother's house and friends places while visiting family on vacation. I actually grew up right down the street from Aaron's place, in fact my mom still lives there, so it was super convenient.

I am the kind of person who doesn't ever want to bother anyone, especially if I'm a guest, so I was exceptionally quiet - I think more so than I needed to be, as Aaron told me not to worry at all. (Good luck getting me to not worry LOL I'm far too overanxious) :) At least I know my ninja skills work ;)

The only thing that might not have been 5 stars is the bed in bedroom 2 where I stayed. It's not the most comfortable bed in the world, but it's also not the worst either. I was able to eventually find a comfortable position, but then again, I only seem to sleep perfectly in my own bed at home :) The air conditioner also saved my life, as a nice heat wave hit in the middle of my trip.

So, even with the bed issue, which probably isn't a huge one for most, I give Aaron and his place 5 stars. He is super friendly and down to earth, and the room worked out perfectly for what I needed. Thanks, Aaron! :)

  • Aaron is the nicest host and awesomest dude! Stayed here for about 2.5 months or so. He is really accommodating and generous. The house is cool, in the middle of jersey forest. So you will see deer frolicking in the backyard. The room is cozy, comes with your own A/C unit. The bathroom has a heater for those cold autumn nights. I lived with another roomate at the time, and we all got along great =). This place is in a cute small town of Dunellen which has some good local restaurants and NJ transit line if you need to go to NYC. Thanks for the stay Aaron! Enjoyed your company and your cute house.

  • I stayed in Bedroom #2 and it was really nice. I enjoyed my stay. Although you can't tell by the pictures, the bathroom is actually really nice, and the room actually has an A/C unit on the window right next to the bed.

I would stay there again if possible the next time I go there, and if Aaron lets me.

    Thanks Aaron!

  • Aaron was a super nice and welcoming host. Unfortunately we didn't get to talk much but I felt right at home at his place (: Great stay, would definitely recommend.

About
I like long walk on the beach, candle light dinners, and.... oh... wrong website... I like biking, running, swimming, hiking, camping, basketball, baseball, just about all sports. Preference to be playing and doing it than watching it. Easy going. Don't smoke. Drink socially. Antics frequently. If you need to know more, just ask. P.S.
