Double bedroom with high ceilings in older-style home. Free wifi, close to public transport, short walking distance to nearest supermarket. Great coffee a few blocks away. Please note we have a 2 night minimum on weekends, 3 nights on a long weekend.
The house is an older-style home, it was built in 1920, with double brick plastered walls and high ceilings.
The room has a comfortable queen size bed (previous guests have described it as "a fantastic bed" and "the best bed they'd slept on all year"), with wifi, desk, dresser/drawers, bookshelf full of books, bedside table, coffee table, fan, mirror etc, in a house with polished wood floors, carpet in bedrooms, and central heating.
Backyard has a herb garden, BBQ, outdoor setting & outdoor firepit.
The kitchen has every appliance you could imagine (I love cooking)! You may have some space in the fridge if you wish, and you are welcome to use the crockery, cutlery & all kitchen appliances.
Located on Brunswick/Coburg border, close to both Nicholson St & Sydney Rd. The nearest tram stop is an easy 3 min stroll from your door (both the No 8 / No 1 trams). 15min drive to city, 30min on tram.
The East Brunswick Project, which serves some of the best coffee in Melbourne, is two stops away on our tram line (or a leisurely 15min morning stroll if you prefer to walk), straight down Lygon Street. Moreland Train Station also within walking distance. Unrestricted onstreet parking available.
We have some small quiet fish and three small quiet dogs (miniature dachshunds, mama Molly, papa Spike and their son Dudley). Please note that the dogs are not allowed in the bedrooms.
If you are a smoker, we request that all smoking is done outside (ashtrays are provided outside the back door).
Guests have access to most rooms in the house, including the bathroom, laundry, toilet & kitchen. Everything, in fact, except for my home office and our bedroom. Everywhere else you are welcome to make yourselves at home! During the warmer months we enjoy dining and relaxing on the back deck, enjoying the sun. You are most welcome to do the same!
Interaction with Guests
It is up to you how much interaction you have with us. Some guests like to retreat to the privacy of their room, or spend all their time out and about exploring Melbourne. Other guests like to spend time chatting around the kitchen table with us. Either is welcome!
An eclectic and vibrant area in Melbourne’s inner north, Brunswick & Coburg bustle with a diverse cross section of interesting street cafes and restaurants flaunting a spectrum of global flavours. Easy walking distance to bars, cafes, inexpensive restaurants, shops & post office (the house is within easy walking distance of both Lygon Street and Sydney Road). The area has plenty of cafes and bars, lots of artists and musicians live in the area and there is an active live local music scene. Historically it was a poor working class/migrant area which has recently become gentrified. There are lots of front yards still with lemon trees and fig trees growing to reflect this history. There is a great article in Broadsheet Melbourne (a local online paper) describing some of the excellent places you can eat out in Brunswick for under $10 if you feel like googling!
Trams: #8 and #1 tram are both a very easy 2-3min stroll away - both trams will take you in to the city. #19 tram is also an easy walk.
Trains: the Upfield train line is approx 900 metres away on the other side of Sydney Road.
Buses: the 510 which travels between Essendon & Ivanhoe via Brunswick, Northcote &Thornbury goes right past the door, the nearest bus stop is a two minute walk.
Other Things to Note
I am happy to be a little flexible with check-in and check-out times when it is possible to do so.
If you use the kitchen, please clean up after yourself.
We also ask that you please show some consideration with regards to loud noise eg music/tv/slamming doors early in the morning and late at night.
There is to be absolutely no smoking indoors.
If you eat in your room, please clean up after yourselves. Leaving food & crumbs on shelves and in the bed is not the way for a preferred guest to behave.
Yes, Airdrie is a very nice lady with three cute dogs. The house is a medium size one and the room for guests has a double bed with a TV set. I arrived late due to my flight schedule and Airdrie was out for a party, but She left her house key at the front and gave me instructions which avoided late check-in. I would recommend visitors to choose staying in her house.
Airdrie was nice and easy going - she made me feel at home and had no issues when I arrived a couple of hours early!
Great stay - thanks again for making us feel at home. Highly recommended listing!
Airdrie was accommodating considering our last minute booking. She was pleasant and greeted us on arrival. The room was as described in the posting. The location was convenient and made transportation easy.
Due to a flight delay we arrived quite late at night, but Airdrie was very welcoming. It is clear that she is used to having people around :-) Public transport to the city is very easy with tram stops nearby. The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed our breakfasts at the terrace with the cute and very well-behaved dogs.
Only comment would be that she has a lot of stuff, that is also blocking part of the hallway.
Anyway, we enjoyed our stay a lot!
Comfortable room ideally positioned to trams and buses. Lovely welcome pack upon arrival. I enjoyed a very pleasant stay.
