We are Wim & Phillip, a Dutch/Indonesian male couple 70/47, we love to meet interesting people from around the world. Wim is a retired tv journalist, (email hidden) chef & fashion designer.

In our elegant and spacious countryside villa near Yogyakarta/Indonesia we made accommodation available for 1-4 paying guests who like to combine a nice homy ambiance with a pleasant personal approach and interesting conversations - about life in general and life in Indonesia in particular.

We started our B&B after our experimental unusual restaurant theSawah (home cooking upon request) became a success: we are (often) the #1, 2 or 3 of 350+ restaurants in Yogyakarta, according to TripAdvisor reviews. Several dinner guests asked if accommodation was available, so we gave the B&B concept a start. See how we did so far in the most recent entries of our TripAdvisor reviews.

We offer a small but comfortable guest room for 2 people with romantic canopy queen size bed, aircon and private hot/cold water bathroom. Incidentally our spacious master bedroom is available as well. See the Master Bedroom listing).

We live 8km south of Yogyakarta, amidst the rice and sugar cane fields in a romantic tranquil tropical area. We like to treat our guests as visiting friends, helping them where we can with tour and transport arrangements, itinerary advice, laundry service, massage requests, motorbike rental etc.

A taxi to/from the city centre and/or railway station of Yogyakarta takes 20-25 minutes and costs around rp. 45.000. Taxis from the airport (45 mins) charge a fixed fee of around rp 125.000 - If our car is available we can offer a cheaper option: rp 60.000 for pickup or dropoff from/to the airport, 30.000 from/to the station. Free one way station/airport pickup/dropoff for minimum 5 nights stay. Free two way transport for minimum 7 nights stay.

We do have plans to turn our place into a real Home Hotel in the future (with two luxurious bungalows and a swimming pool in our garden), but we did not find the investors yet (offers welcome!). And in plans you can not sleep and swim...

So for the time being our B&B with 1 or 2 rooms and use of the rest of the house is what we can offer. Plus the guarantee of an excellent breakfast (Western or Asian), free WiFi internet, all day free coffee/tea/aqua, helpful service and pleasant company. Dinner in our home restaurant is optional. English, Indonesian, Javanese, Dutch, German, French, (little) Spanish spoken.

We own two peaceful dogs: the beatle Bingo and the very enthousiastic golden retriever Hero.
We don't own cats, but feed some that come here on an irregular basis. Other than this we have around 200 fish in our pond, 10 chicken, 4 ducks, 2 turkeys. And the sounds of crickets, frogs and gekkos...

Be most welcome for two or more nights.
Discounted rates apply for longer stay: our place could be ideal for those who need a comfortable and quiet temporary work/study space.

REVIEWS
Our very first guests booked before we were an AirBnB member, so they could not leave an official AirBnB review. They sent us their opinion by regular email after their visit:

Staying at Sawah Home Hotel was the most wonderful way for me to discover Yogyakarta and it’s surroundings. Wim and Phillip know how to welcome their guests. They simply organized everything for me : pick up at the airport, a comfortable car with a charming chauffeur to visit Borobudur, Prambanan, Yogyakarta and the Merapi volcano. And in the evening a relaxing professional massage. The dinner and breakfast were simply delicious. And if you like conversation, Wim is always ready for it : an endless source of information. Last but not least, since we are in Indonesia, the staff is friendly, helpfull and smiling. What a treat !

There is so much that I could write about B&B the Sawah but I can sum it up by saying that it is definitely one of the loveliest B&B experiences that I have ever had. The gorgeous house and impeccable furnishings, the delicious breakfasts and dinners, the warm and relaxed ambiance and, most of all, the wonderful company of the charming and welcoming hosts.... I look forward to staying there again whenever I get back to Yogyakarta.
Wim and Phillip, thank you so much for a marvelous stay!

We were on holiday in Indonesia. Very nice and beautiful.
But the real Indonesia we have only seen when we were at Wim and Phillip's place.
They have taken us to places where you normally don't come as a tourist. And in particular their accommodation and the pampering there were unique!
Thanks to these dear people!

We had a great time staying at Wim & Philips place. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the breakfasts/dinners are really good and the house is very beautiful. You can see that Wim and Philip put a lot of love and time building their home.
Although Yogya is a nice city, it’s also crowded and somewhat polluted as well, so for us the locations was perfect, in a quiet village just outside the city.
And last but definitely not least, we enjoyed having Wim around to tell us a lot of interesting stories and giving us information about Java. We would definitely recommend staying here!!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Sawah. The place meets all expectations and more. The host and their extended family are very friendly and helpful.
They knew a great driver, the best places to shop and eat. They shared with us some, much appreciated, inside information about the country. The house is beautiful, the neighbourhood is near the Ceramic village (woth a visit) of Kasongan on the outskirts of Yogyar.
We highly recommend this place and will deffenately return here on our next visit to Indonesia.

  • We had a very nice stay at the Sawah. Wim & Philip are great hosts. The house and its surroundings are very pleasant and gives you a different experience. Food served was amazing, got to try some very nice Indonesian dishes. Interesting conversations shared with our hosts, highly recommend to stay at this place. Thanks for everything!

  • Had a fab stay at the Sawah. It's a truly home in Jogja!

Wim, Phillip and the whole family (Mbak Yayuk, Erwan & Agus) are a great host & helpful! They are welcoming people, treating the guests as family. I could always explore the well-designed/decorated house, browse hundreds of interesting books & v/cds at the media corner, see how my meals were prepared at the kitchen and chat with the 5 star chef Mbak Yayuk.

No problem with the transportation, even though the Sawah isn't located in the downtown Jogja. Erwan was happy to help call a taxi whenever I needed.

Here's really a place to have a great rest, quiet time and very tasty home-cooked meals.

  • Had a very nice stay at the Sawah. Wim & Philip are great hosts, and the house is very well taken care of. Breakfast was also excellent! One good example of the hosts caring was when the water heater broke on December 31st and they managed to have it fixed by the morning of January 1st - that's not an easy task in a country like Indonesia! Very much appreciated all their efforts!

  • Quite in the end of our world trip we found one of the most special and above all most delicious places you can image – the home of Wim and Philipp. We don’t exaggerate that we ate there one of our best dishes during our travels, but for sure the best food in Indonesia. You can enjoy a free and fully satisfying breakfast (Western or Indonesian) and also place a order for other meals, because the place called “The Sawah” is a kind of restaurant on demand, first-rated on Tripadvisor. The whole house is gorgeous and our room with extra bathroom was perfect and lovely designed, but it would be nothing without the great kindness of Wim and Philipp and all the other family members in the house who will answer your wishes. It was great sharing some stories and it was wonderful to have Wim, who is an open-minded man, for organizing our days. He managed all our tours with a good driver or having a massage at home. Remember that the Sawah is away from other restaurants or shops so you always need a driver to go to town. But you can go for a walk or enjoy the silence, the nature and the house area as well, when you don’t plan a day trip to your hot spots. For Yogya Wim also has a selfmade map for you to explore the city on your own. Although we are dog lovers, one of the two dogs was sometimes a little bit annoying because he isn’t castrated but I think Wim will teach him day by day. Thanks again for all the hospitality! Cathy and Thorsten

  • theSawah is AWESOME!!! Love the decor and settings and the peaceful stay.. Not forgetting Hero & Pingu who never fail to welcome us whenever we're 'home'.. They're the residence dogs :) Wim & Phillip are awesome hosts too.. Welcomed us with open arms and suggesting us places to go to kill our time on the last day before the flight.. Ohhhh we love their Asian breakfast too!!! Pak Sutarman, the driver and guide whom Wim recommended was indeed a Superman and we enjoyed having him during our entire journey. Punctual, patient and a joker, and this makes our road trips not a bore. If you want the local food, just ask him and you'll be blown by the super yummy food that he suggested. I miss the magelangan already :'( I definitely recommend theSawah to everyone and will surely come back to theSawah when I decided to come to Yogya in the near future. Thank you Wim, Phillip & Pak Sutarman!!

  • My cousin and I stayed in the guest bedroom at the Sawah for three nights. Our trip was really quite lovely! Although Wim and Philippe were only in town for the first night, we enjoyed their company and stories. I especially appreciated Wim's efforts to entertain and converse with us despite being quite under the weather! The other two nights we were under the excellent care of the Sawah's staff/family members. Erwan was very helpful--going as far as to get us take-out for dinner one night on his motorcycle and calling taxis for us.

The amenities at the Sawah were great. The AC was cool and the shower was excellent. Another important point is that the breakfast really was delicious. I would also recommend having dinner here at least once! Finally, as I had come to the Sawah to get some work done, I have to note that the WiFi was fast and reliable. A side note would be to bring some insect repellent if you are planning to spend a lot of time on the beautiful patio. As the Sawah is located in the rice paddies, there are obviously some mosquitos (like all places in Indonesia)--but this is easily remedied and we were not bothered in our rooms at night.

Thanks Wim and Philippe for the great stay! I will definitely come again when I come back to Jogja.

  • Wim & Philip's house is located in the outskirt of Yogyakarta which is quiet with lots of green. The house is beautifully decorated in Javanese style while providing all the Western-standard amenities. I felt like a master chef everyday preparing my coffee and meals in their commercial-grade kitchen. And their assistant/family member Erwan made sure that what I needed was provided for (which included dropping me off at the train station and helping me to purchase a ticket to Solo). The meals Erwan prepared for me were delicious and creative. I also chatted with Wim and Philip several times and they are certainly interesting people. My Yogyakarta trip would not have been as pleasant if I had not chosen to stay with Wim and Philip.
