Great place! Very clean, spacious and a primo location. Will definitely be staying here again!
This was my first airbnb experience and I am glad that I decided to stay in this apartment. First off, the neighborhood is awesome. The apartment is in Allentown, which is a few blocks from Allen St--one of the entertainment/dining hubs of Buffalo. It is a 5 minute walk from Cantina Loco--a fabulous restaurant def worth checking out. The houses in the neighborhood are beautiful, and the other review stating that the neighborhood was dangerous is completely off.
The apartment itself is as the pictures appear. It is an older house, but nicely renovated and has all the necessities you would expect. The water pressure is great and I had no issues with the water heater (and I stayed in the dead of winter). Being on the top level of the house, there was no issue with noise. The washer and dryer work well and was an added bonus.
Todd, the landlord, lives in the apartment below and is easily accessible. He was very flexible with meeting me when I arrived and was very helpful in guiding me around the city as I had never been before. He's from Buffalo and has great recommendations on what to do in the city.
All in all a great experience and I wouldn't hesitate to stay at his place again if I return to Buffalo.
My wife & I stayed at Todd's place for Thanksgiving weekend Thu-Sun. The place was beautiful and in a nice location.
Great location - within a short drive of Elmwood Village and downtown
Todd is friendly and very responsive
Roku is hooked up to the TV.
Good amount of dishes and kitchen stuff available.
Plenty of space.
We had some trouble with the door knob not working, but Todd provided a quick workaround.
The building is old so the water takes a bit to warm up.
The bed isn't comfortable - seemed to be standard 8" foam on a box spring.
The toilet clogs easy.
Bottom line: We definitely recommend this place.
Our experience at Todd's apartment was painful emotionally and financially so I have to share our story in details, so this doesn't happen to anybody else.
First and most important, I don't understand why in all the reviews that were left by previous travelers, nobody mentioned that the house is located on a boarder of neighborhood that is unsafe. (One side of the neighborhood leading downtown was probably fine…we did stop a local resident who was strolling his kid though to ask him if it was safe to walk around and he told us to absolutely not walk to the Left side of the neighborhood but to the right side it was not too bad).
I mentioned to Todd that we were coming with a 4 year old child and that our plans were to walk to convention center, the least he could have done for us is to mention that the surrounding streets might not be friendly to walk through specially for someone who doesn’t know their way around.
Next huge disappointment was how dirty the toilet was. My husband had to clean the toilet himself because our son was scarred to use it. To give Todd credit, I should mention that he offered to bring a cleaning lady up to clean the toilet, but at this point we were not sure if we should stay at the apartment.
Another thing travelers have to keep in mind is that although Todd advertises that his apartment sleeps 3 people, his couch doesn't turn into a bed, and what makes it even worst is that it comes out into 2 parts. So, it would not be comfortable for anybody to sleep on.
We explained to Todd that we were upset that the apartment was not properly cleaned for us and that we didn’t feel safe in the neighborhood, so we left after being at his place for less than 2 hours.
It was a very painful experience because we were leaving the apartment at dark, in the rain with our 4 year old son, ready to pay a high rate at a hotel just to get out of there.
We were hoping that Todd would refund us the money, but he didn’t. I even told him to keep $50 for whatever inconvenience that this might caused him.
After a few conversations with AirBNB we were refunded only half of the money, leaving us with $125 loss.
Todd told us that he would not refund us the money out of principle. I am not sure what principle Todd is following, but I know it is not an honest and compassionate principle.
Tatyana is a nightmare.
1. She claimed the neighborhood is unsafe. My neighborhood is very safe, has won awards for preservation, revitalization, houses sell the day they are listed. Maybe 15 years ago it was unsafe. The person she spoke with in front of my house was pushing a stroller with a child. She felt comfortable talking to a stranger in such an unsafe neighborhood.
2. She called me to tell me my toilet was dirty (which it was clean) so I sent my cleaning lady over within 30 minutes. She refused to allow her to clean it but above mentions her husband cleaned it.
3. She decided to do laundry, trying to wash a set of sheets and two large comforters in the same load, spilling water onto the floor and then claiming my washing machine was broken.
4. Her 4 year old son couldn't sleep on the couch? Take a look at the pictures, it's an L shaped couch. I am 6 feet tall and I have slept on the chaise. I'm not sure why she could not figure that out or didn't notice in the listing.
5. Her reservation listed 2 people, she only paid for 2 people but brought 3, then complained.
6. She asked for her money back. Normally I would be happy to do that, however there were way too many problems, her attitude is terrible and I think other hosts need to know what to expect from her.
7. I host airbnb guests because I enjoy it. My feedback is terrific. AirBnB is not right for everybody and should not be used by her. She was looking for an out before she walked into the door.
This whole experience saddens me and goes against everything airbnb stands for.
We stayed at Todd's while in Buffalo for a wedding, and I am so glad we did! His place was centrally located, close to the bars and restaurants in Allentown, and a 30 minute drive to Niagara Falls. It's clear that Todd has put a ton of work into the house, and it was so much more pleasant to stay in than a hotel for the weekend. Todd made himself available to us and was very responsive (including one embarrassing night when we accidentally locked ourselves out of the house), and was a very gracious host. I would recommend Todd's place to anyone looking for a great spot to stay in Buffalo.
Todd's apartment is a lovely space in a great neighborhood, and Todd was an excellent host. Easy access to the coffee shops/restaurants on Allen Street, and it was an enjoyable walk down Delaware Avenue to the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. Highly recommend it!
Todd was a conscientious and concerned host. His apartment is immaculate - complete including a washer and dryer which came in handy. I cannot add much to the other reviews, but I want the elders (over 60 or so) to know that the bed is on the floor and too soft with the foam topper. We took the topper off after the first night and slept much better - this from a person who hates firm mattresses! Also, my husband and I like to relax at the table - use computers, eat meals, etc, and there were only the bar table and stools. The beautiful apartment is more than big enough to house a conventional table and chairs in addition to the bar table. For those who will just be eating out and not needing to work with a computer, this should be no problem. Overall, this was a good experience.
We were in town for a wedding and wanted to find a place close to downtown Buffalo. A friend recommended we check out airbnb availability and we're so glad we did! The apartment was located in historic Allentown and the space was modern and beautiful. Todd was really accommodating and we were able to set up a late arrival due to our flights into town. With all of the hustle and bustle of the wedding, it was great to have a place that felt like a "home away from home" to come back to and chill out for a while. The bed was super comfortable and it was great to sit outside on the patio in the morning after having a coffee.
Would definitely recommend it! Todd is really nice and clearly really cares about his guests.
Awesome apartment. It's as described, clean and equipped with all the basics that you'll need for a short getaway. Nice restaurants around the area to explore too. Will definitely stay here again if I'm in town.
