Comfortable and cosy, our ancient summer chalet in the middle of the mountains can accommodate up to 5 people. It is easily accessible by car, just 30 km from Ljubljana the capital. An ideal starting point for hiking or traveling around Slovenia.
Perfect getaway house for somebody who wants to relax in the middle of nature. This chalet, on the footstep of the Slovenian capital Ljubljana, is situated in the very heart of the regional nature park “Polhograjski dolomiti”. Picturesque countryside dotted with lonely farmhouses and ancient villages, steep slopes and mountain peaks topped with churches is ideal for hiking, mountain biking or just quiet family holidays in the middle of nature. You might think that time has stopped here!
Only 30 km from Ljubljana, the house is accessible by car or by public bus twice a day.
Built in stone, this more than 300 years old chalet, can accommodate at maximum 6 people. There is master room with balcony, children room for two and an extra sofa bed in the living area. Kitchen is fully equipped (dish washer, oven, glass ceramic hob) but in nice weather you can also take advantage of totally equipped summer kitchen on the terrace stretching around the house.
At the neighbor farmhouse you can buy organic home produce like fresh milk, eggs, meat, vegetables and seasonally cheese and their home made charcuterie.
For more information what to do and explore in the area there is a guide in the chalet but do not hesitate to visit also web site of the local tourist association “Turisticna zveza Dolomiti” or simply “tzdolomiti.si”
As a guest you have access to everything on the property.
Interaction with Guests
I respect my guests' privacy and I will appear in the chalet only by guest request.
No light pollution, no noise pollution, 100% nature.
When did you last see the stars in the sky? :)
I usually send the guest detailed maps with instructions of how to get there. There is a parking place in front of the house, but you can park an extra car just 100 m down the road.
There is also a public bus going there twice a day from Ljubljana main station.
Other Things to Note
In the country side the groceries are not open on sunday so you will depend on your stock or the nearest restaurant:)
I am pretty laid back with the house rules, but since the chalet is situated next to an old farmhouse, please do respect the privacy and property of the neighbor farmer.
Try to keep the volume down after 10 PM.
Please be respectful to the wildlife and animals as well.
Matevz house is great place to relax, all around is pure nature with cows, donkeys and forest. The view from the house balcony are incredibly, green hills in morning clouds, fresh and clean mountian air, everything is just perfect! Inside the house you have everything you need, not for a short holiday, it is house for living, complete kitchen with dishwasher and oven, central heating, TV with satellite, bathroom with washing machine, cute children room...
The house is very clean, spicy...
I highly recommended this host!!!!!
This traditional log cabin is truly something out of a fairy tale! We still can't believe it - even after staying here for four nights. And nothing prepares you for the beauty of the surrounding areas!
The local produce (potato & onion) left for us was such a lovely touch - thank you! And the washing machine was a welcome surprise seeing as this was the second leg of our trip.
This is the perfect spot for coming to spend time in nature, while still being close enough to attractions like Ljubljana & Bled (should one want to take a day trip). We can highly recommend the free walking tour of Ljubljana.
We spent our last day exploring the local towns, and can highly recommend a hike in the surrounding forests.
We loved this cabin so much, and everyone that sees our photos wants to go as well.
Thanks again Matevz - even though we didn't meet you - you were so efficient in responding to our questions online!
We'd love to come back when it snows.
We spend a nice time in the chalet and Matevz was a uncomplecated host!

Thx Matevz for red wine it was verry good!!
greats Jenthe, Jan, Dries & Volders
We had a lovely peaceful time at the chalet - although we didn't meet Matevz, he was extremely helpful in the lead up to our stay, providing us with maps and other information very promptly (all my questions probably got annoying but he was always very polite and helpful!). Unlike most people who have visited the chalet before us, we didn't have a car - we got a taxi from Ljubljana train station - it cost 49 euros but would have been a bit cheaper if we'd pre-booked it. If you do use a taxi be prepared for the driver not to not know how to find the chalet and have maps with you to direct him! At the end of our stay we got the bus back to the city - the stop is less than 10mins walk from the chalet. There are 2 buses a day and it costs just over 4 euros - the buses are very prompt and won't wait so make sure you get to the stop early! The chalet itself was really sweet - without a car there isn't much to do but we had a nice walk to a nearby hilltop church and just generally relaxed there. In the evenings there is a DVD player but take some DVDs! Unfortunately the farm didn't have much food to offer us (just eggs and bread) so do stock up as there are no shops anywhere close.
