Comfortable and cosy, our ancient summer chalet in the middle of the mountains can accommodate up to 6 people. It is easily accessible by car, just 30 km from Ljubljana the capital. An ideal starting point for hiking or traveling around Slovenia.
Perfect getaway house for somebody who wants to relax in the middle of nature. This chalet, on the footstep of the Slovenian capital Ljubljana, is situated in the very heart of the regional nature park “Polhograjski dolomiti”. Picturesque countryside dotted with lonely farmhouses and ancient villages, steep slopes and mountain peaks topped with churches is ideal for hiking, mountain biking or just quiet family holidays in the middle of nature. You might think that time has stopped here!
Only 30 km from Ljubljana, the house is accessible by car or by public bus twice a day.
Built in stone, this more than 300 years old chalet, can accommodate at maximum 6 people. There is master room with balcony, children room for two and an extra sofa bed in the living area. Kitchen is fully equipped (dish washer, oven, glass ceramic hob) but in nice weather you can also take advantage of totally equipped summer kitchen on the terrace stretching around the house.
At the neighbor farmhouse you can buy organic home produce like fresh milk, eggs, meat, vegetables and seasonally cheese and their home made charcuterie.
For more information what to do and explore in the area there is a guide in the chalet but do not hesitate to visit also web site of the local tourist association “Turisticna zveza Dolomiti” or simply “tzdolomiti.si”
As a guest you have access to everything on the property.
I respect my guests' privacy and I will appear in the chalet only by guest request.
No light pollution, no noise pollution, 100% nature.
When did you last see the stars in the sky? :)
I usually send the guest detailed maps with instructions of how to get there. There is a parking place in front of the house, but you can park an extra car just 100 m down the road.
There is also a public bus going there twice a day from Ljubljana main station.
In the country side the groceries are not open on sunday so you will depend on your stock or the nearest restaurant:)
This place is a gem of a getaway. It is an awesome old place on the side of a mountain that has so much character. We sat on the balcony, we lit a fire, we smelt fresh air, we got snowed in, we met friendly dogs, there were no noises at night, we slept 10hours straight and saw stars.... awesome!
To get there the first time took a while - don't ask for directions - take the time to print Matevz's map and follow it carefully. If you want to get to Slovenia's highlights quickly keep in mind that from here it takes 30 minutes to get to a good highway - it is remote.
This place is highly recommended, Matevz is friendly and helpful....
Beautiful little cottage in middle of nowhere... =)
Had a great time there.
It´s decorated in a caring manner and the view over the valley is amazing.
Everything was very clean and tidy. We felt welcome in any way.
You need to see a supermarkt before arrival because the cottage is the perfect place to escape from everyday life.
Because of some troubles with the heating we had to start the wood oven. We´ve been well instructed by the owners and the atmosphere sitting in the kittchen while the fire is burning is also quite nice.
The oven heated the whole house without any problem.
Also the dog found new friendships in the neighbourhood =)
Absolutely one of the best holidays !! The chalet is very cozy, nice and clean. A must for anyone who wants to explore slovenia (in particular from Ljubljana).
Fantastic place and beautiful location. We very much enjoyed cooking on the wood stove! The dogs from the farm are very nice. The smoked sausages and eggs from next door are also great!
It's a very nice and beautifully located house and Matevz is a very kind host.
We would be happy to come again :)
A really nice place that fully lived up to our expectations: Well isolated in the mountains with a beautiful view. Matevz was fast to reply when we had questions.
A lovely little chalet in the woods, sensitively converted with good kitchen facilities and comfy bed linen. This house is extremely remote and proved a challenge to reach in the dark! Better arrive during the daytime. A note of caution, we were unlucky to arrow when the local restaurant was closed (it looked nice), so be prepared to cool at home. There is precious little info in the house re very local walks, we tried to do one which promised a tourist farm en route to have lunch. The route peetered out mid walk and when we have up and drove to the lunch place it too was closed so be prepared with ur own hiking maps and packed lunch to walk in this area.
Having said all that the area is very pretty, and ridiculously close to the capital which you would never know!
I hope Mateuz can help rectify the walk map situation soon, I am sure he will.
Home design and panoramic views brought us into raptures. Our family of 3 adults and 2 children felt very comfortable despite that the chalet is not very big. Children are loved their small bedroom. All of the equipment is up and running. Chalets decor is matched with great taste. We can recommend Matevz not only as the owner of the house, but also as an architect.)))
View of the mountains fantastically beautiful. We recommend to visit the church in the village of Crni vrh and admire the panorama around the church.
This chalet is very special, it is in a gorgeous hillside location with views over the fields and valley beyond. We saw deer and eagles and had visits from the lovely dogs from the neighbouring farm house - our kids loved it!! The chalet is just as it appears in the photos, very charming and picturesque and it's a lovely place to just hang out. The whole area is very beautiful. We were a bit warm at night upstairs as it was early August, so a fan would be useful up there - the lower level stays very nice and cool - and we couldn't find anything to make coffee in. Everything else was there though, including a dishwasher, and there were bits and pieces for the kids to play with and draw on, which was lovely.
There's a great swimming spot in the river just to the west out of Polhov Gradec and a great restaurant called Kramarjed Hram pizzeria (not definite on the spelling!) on the road back to Ljubljana, about 5 kms past Polhov Gradec.
What a beautiful, peaceful place! Thank you, Matevz, for sharing this gem with others! The chalet is far away from any bustling touristy place and still it's a wonderful place to stay, go bathing in the river at Na Logu, walk to one of the pituresque churches on top of the hills, explore the countryside around, visit Skofja Loka. Best of all was to relax and sit on the veranda, enjoy the beautiful view, look at the perfect star lit sky at night. The house itself is furnished and decorated with extraordinary taste, no doors (except for the bathroom door) make it appear more spacious. The kids loved the little children chamber off the main bedroom into which you had to crawl stepping onto a stool in front of the little open doorway. The kids most enjoyed the visiting friendly neighbouring farmer's dogs and cats that came along once in a while for a pat on the back or a treat. We definitely recommend this place!
