Come explore Acadia National Park and one of the most beautiful islands in Maine. This one bedroom apartment is on the first floor of a fully renovated 150 year old barn. We are conveniently located in the historic town of Somesville, at the very center of Mount Desert Island. We are a 10 to 15 minute drive to Bar Harbor and a 10 minute drive to Southwest Harbor on the other side of the island. You can walk to the Somesville library, a small history museum, Somes harbor landing and Hillside Cemetery, the burial place of poet Marguerite Yourcenar. The apartment is attached to our house but has its own entrance and parking. A Queen bed in the separate bedroom and a twin daybed with a trundle in the living area can sleep up to 4 guests - perfect for a small family, a couple or a few friends. The daybed doubles as the couch during the day. All linens are included. The kitchen area has all you need to cook your own meals on your trip as well as a washer and dryer. The small bathroom off the bedroom has a shower. A small, sunny outdoor space is a comfortable spot to sit in the sun or have a meal. We do not have a TV, but you can use our Wifi at no charge. The free Island Explorer bus can stop right in front of the house and take you to many locations in the National Park and around the island. We are located on a busy main street with a 25mph speed limit which has some traffic noise during the day but is generally quite quiet at night. We love our home and we hope that this space can be a comfortable retreat from which to explore everything Acadia and Mount Desert Island has to offer.
Just a a few house rules we take very seriously - NO animals, NO SMOKING anywhere on the property and quiet after 10pm.
Amazing place. Perfect for a romantic get away.
We had a wonderful time staying with Emily! The house was perfect, cozy, clean and in a nice area. We had a wonderful few days and would highly recommend her apt to anyone looking for a cozy get away in Acadia.
My wife and I had an incredibly restful stay here, it's very clean and up to date, and is on a quiet part of the island that's a easy hub to get into Acadia and Bar Harbor from. Emily has done a great job thinking of little details to make the space accommodating to travelers and made sure we were comfortable asking for anything else we might need. She also saved us a lot of time with great recommendations for hikes and places to eat and drink. We cooked a couple of full meals in the apartment and kept leftovers in the fridge which was helpful for the trip, and ultimately wanted more time on the island just so we could enjoy more time relaxing and reading there. Thank you Emily, we very much hope to be back soon!
We had the most relaxing time in our converted barn space. Emily had quite a few essentials in the kitchen, plenty of dishes for us to cook up some great meat after hiking, and excellent guide books and maps of the area. Emily was pretty hands-off but available when and if we needed her.
There is a fjord a very short walk from the place that afforded time outside without a big energy commitment. We met quite a few local folks and got lots of well wishes for our visit.
So much fun. We even did some laundry.... a bonus.

Very nice place and centrally located. The cottage is nicely furnished, and the kitchen is well-equipped. A perfect spot to explore Mount Desert Island! We very much appreciated Emily's tips and kind advice on what to do in the surroundings.
We had an excellent time staying at Emily's house on Mt. Dessert Island. The space was light, airy, and comfortably furnished. The kitchen is well appointed and had everything we needed to make some nice dinners. It is on a busy road, but we didn't find the traffic noise to be a problem. If you were to be bothered by the road noise the windows block out almost all the sound. Emily supplied us with a ton of info about things to do in the area as well as maps and some guide books. The location is very central to explore Acadia, bar harbor, and other areas on the island. We enjoyed the 5 minute walk down to a dock on beautiful Somes Sound. Would definitely stay here again–thanks Emily!
Emily's converted barn is an oasis outside city life. If you can handle a small bit of traffic noise (as the house i located right off a main road), as well as a small shower, this is a great location on the island as it is central to all the sites in Acadia. The house is super clean, with nice hardwood floors and good closet space, full kitchen, and a washer and drier! There's no TV, which was not missed at all, but they have great, high-speed wi-fi. There is also no cell-phone reception, but that was also not missed at all. There were also some good hiking books and magazines about Acadia in the house.
Emily was super helpful before and after we arrived, providing us wonderful hiking and food suggestions. I was also able to mail a large telescope to the house for her to store for a couple weeks prior to our arrival. She was great help, non-intrusive, and quick to respond; a perfect host.
The only regret is that we didn't stay longer! We only stayed for 4 nights, but you can keep yourself easily busy for a week in Acadia. We will return soon!
Nice quiet base camp after a day of exploring the island. Good location, centrally located to all sites and roads. Nice back yard. Perfect size accommodation for 2 adults and 2 children. Lots of storage space to keep you organized and tidy. Full kitchen with a washer and drier!
Would stay there again.
We loved staying in Emily's converted barn! It's located in a quiet spot in the middle of Mount Desert Island, within a short drive to all the great sites. The apartment was very comfortable and perfectly decorated to make us feel at home. Emily was very welcoming and helpful with nearby restaurant recommendations, etc. We will definitely consider this spot again on our next trip to the island.
Emily sent me all the information needed in advance. The house was bigger than in the pictures and very clean. When we arrived, few items had been left in the fridge as well as books for us to enjoy. Located in Somesville the barn is at a walking distance from the shore and a short distance by car to Echo Lake and Carriage road. If you don't mind the traffic noise , the place is a paradise in Maine. I warmly recommend it. Thanks Emily.
