Small garden cottage with a kitchenette and small sleeping loft that has a queen futon. This is a very cute, very cozy space -- perfect for a couple in need of a weekend getaway.
Longer stays also welcome.
Large kitchen and bathroom in main house.
Craftsman style country home on a sunny half acre just South of Santa Cruz. The property is a ten minute drive from beaches and excellent small restaurants. We are designed for indoor outdoor living. Located 60 min from Silicon Valley and 90 min South of San Francisco in a country setting, we are a beautiful 40 min drive North of Monterey Bay Aquarium. Take a day trip to Big Sur. Or hike in the nearby Redwoods. Or grab a bike and tour the local wineries and apple orchards just minutes from the house. Santa Cruz has a vibrant music and dance scene, a Boardwalk. Sailing, surfing, kayaking (or I can give you a rowing lesson). Access to a car and transportation from the airport open for discussion... Bedroom and guest cottage are both perfect for a couple. A larger group can book the main house -- up to three couples. Kids and pets welcome -- no indoor smoking please.
Cottage guests access the bathroom and kitchen through the back door. The bathroom in the main house is shared between the cottage guests and the small bedroom.
Guests who need ready bathroom access will be more comfortable in the small bedroom as it adjoins the bathroom.
Interaction with Guests
I work multiple jobs and, while I love people and enjoy AirBandB guests, the reality is that I am often gone from home. We have dogs and cats.
The main bus route is 2 miles from the house.
Other Things to Note
I do not mind late arrivals.
We love animals and have both cats and dogs.
Our animals are not allowed in the guest rooms because many guests have allergies. People who ar super allergic won't be comfortable. But we have many guests with mild allergies who do just fine.
Let us know ahead of time if you plan to bring an animal. We have cats and dogs.
Incredibly lovely cottage in a tranquil garden in the country, 10 mins from the Pacific Ocean. Beautiful little spot, wood stove and oil lamps. Great host, inspiring lady, with beautiful dogs too. Just be aware the bed is on sleeping platform above the kitchen, with probably 2 feet of clearance between the rafters and the (email hidden)eat for a single person or a slumber but not much room to sit up or move around.
My girlfriend and I were looking for a relaxing weekend getaway and we were not disappointed. The cottage is super cozy and Christine is a welcoming host. All in all it was an amazing weekend!
Pros: Sitting in a wood-heated hot tub beneath a canopy of stars is an experience one won't soon forget.
Caveats: The loft bed is closer to the ceiling than it looks in the pics. It wasn't an issue for us, but it might be an issue for the claustrophobic.
You can open every wall of the cottage to let breezes blow through. It is well stocked with little, useful touches like a water boiler (which we used for tea), a mini fridge, microwave, bottle opener, space heater, fan, and so on. The bed was made for us and we had plenty of privacy to hang out in the cottage. This is definitely a place to access by car.
The loft is around 2.5 feet high, so very tall people might feel cramped, but with windows on the side and the open end by the pillows, you don't feel claustrophobic. Just cozy. Very cozy. Nap for an extra 2 hours cozy.
The kitchen and bathroom are in the main house 30 feet away, and kept accessible at all times through the back door. You are bound to meet the cat, dog, or both on the way. Molly the dog is exuberant but very sweet, and the cat is very chill and likes tabletops.
Christine herself was responsive, kind, and organized. The neighborhood is gorgeous, accessed by winding roads through the woods, and we felt no need to lock doors.
Overall, I would recommend the cottage - just don't plan on leaving early in the morning because you might not want to. Thank you, Christine!
Christine was a great host and the cottage was really comfortable. I arrived with my partner and we enjoyed the peaceful feeling of the space. We we're able to prepare our own breakfast in the kitchen before going off to Santa Cruz and Monterrey. The hot tub was a plus! Very convenient, but with the feeling of being nestled in the countryside. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who can comfortably sleep in a lofted bed.
Christine's property is so beautiful. I left my weekend getaway feeling so refreshed. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to have a cozy and relaxing place to stay! I loved the hot tub and soaking under the night sky. Her pets are adorable and friendly. The cottage was comfortable but would not be ideal for anyone who doesn't like tight spaces. I felt like I was in an awesome fort when sleeping in the loft. Christine is a super nice and welcoming person. All in all, I would go back!
This charming cottage is the perfect retreat. I loved it from the farmhouse sink and colorful dish ware to the cozy wood stove and all the natural light. Christine is a gracious and warm host who was a true pleasure to talk with. Although I didn't cook in the main house kitchen, it has a beautiful gas stove and a warm, welcoming feel. I would love to visit this sweet place again.
Christine was a gracious host. She responded to our needs and made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The location is beautiful and great as a jump off point to Monterrey and Big Sur.
A few points for future guests:
-if you want to use the hot tub, notify in advance
-bed is high and ceiling is low, can be tricky
-if you are allergic to down Christine has non down pillows for you
-there is not much instruction regarding heat/electricity situation, ask ahead
-the driveway is low and will scratch the bottom of your car if it is low set
-you may have lawn mowing outside by neighbors as we did

I am an over employed PA in love with the country life. The property is a rambling half acre of flowers, vegetable gardens an fruit trees in the hilly setting of South Santa Cruz County. Large sunny decks flank the main house and invite guests outside to enjoy morning coffee and the New York Times.
The house has a small downstairs bedroom with private bath. There is also a much larger private suite of rooms upstairs (that is not listed). The guest cottage is under the trees at the bottom of the rose garden. It has a small kitchenette and shares the downstairs bathroom in the main house. Both the bedroom and the cottage have queen sized futons. The cottage sleeping loft is a short ladder climb up. Either space would be perfect for a couple. We can accommodate up to three couples, with children. Well behaved dogs are also welcome and guests are encouraged to cook in the main house in the French country-style kitchen with oak floors and an antique gas stove .
The outdoor spaces offer benches and tables to sit, read and even eat out doors. And the wood fired hot tub is quite popular. I especially love soaking under the stars....
