Room in a farm stay

Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
Wrap yourself in western luxury on our historic ranch as you enjoy this private, cozy bedroom with comfortable queen bed and large bathroom across the hall. This is a room rental within our home. It is not a full house rental. The downstairs bedroom and bath are handicap accessible. We also offer guided horseback riding, ranch cooking, and hiking here on our beautiful 41 acre ranch. This room has one queen bed for 2.

The space
This room cozy room is the only bedroom on the main floor of our house, next to the back door private entrance, and across the hall from your large private bathroom. It has a very comfortable queen sized bed, 2 rustic night stands, dresser, mirror, deer antler lamps, a very large closet, ceiling fan, and satellite television.

Guest access
You have access to the entire main floor of the house which includes your bathroom, large dining room with views of the horses and river, living room with huge rock fireplace, our spectacular kitchen, views of the foothill peaks, and our huge barn to park your vehicles under during the warm summer months.

Adjoining the living room with a bar area, is what we consider the shining star of our house, the spectacular kitchen. It's spacious and well equipped for a professional chef with an impressive 6 burner Wolf Commercial Stove/Oven, griddle, and broiler, large handmade butcher block, access to our cupboards for spices and incidentals, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, and about every kitchen gadget known to mankind. It has even been the set of cooking shows and has a perfect record of 5 star reviews from every professional chef that has used it. The side kitchen window has a view of the courtyard and breathtaking foothills to the south, while the front window has a picturesque view of our horses, bottom pasture and river where bears and deer can sometimes be seen.

Chad is a huge sports fan, so here's a personal bonus. Want to make it a guys trip? It's the perfect place for your sports watching getaway weekend. You can easily see both large TV's from the kitchen and living room which are on different satellite receivers. That means during football season you can watch 2 different Sunday Ticket games of your choice on both TV's at once and prepare a fantastic meal for your family and friends. Baseball season too with our complimentary Directv MLB Extra Innings package! Soon we will have outdoor TV's in our scenic courtyard. Catering, prepared meals, and professional chef services upon request for an extra fee.

Also, this is California, so we love outdoor living and have a wonderful outdoor courtyard complete with a campfire pit, BBQ grills, and scenic sitting and dining areas.

This is a 41 acre ranch and you will have access to just about all of it. With prior approval, you may take a hike, at your own risk, in our pastures that are home to our cattle and horses. They are used to people, but as with any animal, keep a safe distance. Hikes to the highest hills of the ranch offer spectacular views of the Redstone Valley and surrounding ridge lines.

We live on a rarely traveled dirt road. People drive from all over just to walk our road through the ranch. It's refreshing during the day, relaxing on a moonlit night, and you'll have it outside your door.

FIRE DANGER IS REAL HERE. We will let you know if you can have a campfire or not. Do not ever throw out burning material as it will probably start a wildfire.

The North Fork of the Kaweah River runs by the pasture across the road. The owners will not allow any of our guests to access their swimming hole there, but you can access the river about 3/4 mile back towards town at the big turn out area by the Lions Club Arena.

During your stay
We live here too and have hosted people from around the world for years now, so chances are we will interact if we are here, but will give you as much privacy as you want.

We are a fun loving bunch who love to cook, entertain, and enjoy good wine. our caretaker who lives next door will check you in and see to your needs. If you want to rent the entire house, we do have availability listed in the AirBnB Experiences and we only offer the whole house on certain dates.

Our resident dogs, Sadie and Sage are friendly. Our 14 horses, chickens, and small herd of cattle are typically friendly too, but are not pets. Treat them accordingly.

Our ranch manager, Neecho, lives on the north side of the ranch in a mobile home. That side of the ranch is strictly off limits to guests to respect his privacy. He feeds the livestock and takes care of the grounds, so you will see him around doing chores. He is a very important part of our family and should be treated with the same respect. He feeds the cattle and horses around 7am and 4-5pm. If you would like to go with him, then tell us or simply ask him yourself. If you've never been around livestock, you will really enjoy this experience.

Other things to note
We are located at 900 feet in elevation so it does not snow here at the ranch.
In the winter and spring you will need tire chains to enter the park because you will travel to over 6000 feet in elevation to get to the Giant Forest in about 45 minutes to an hour under normal conditions. They can be rented here in town at the Gateway Restaurant and Lodge on your way to the park or you can buy them yourself at your local auto parts store.

POLICY ON SMALL CHILDREN AND TODDLERS- and I'm going to be very straight forward about this...
We do not recommend that small, undisciplined kids or toddlers stay at our ranch. Here's why. This is a real working ranch with livestock, electric fences, tractor implements, and other things could be mistaken as playground equipment that could hurt them. Our house is not child proof. We have nice things on tables, cleaners in cabinets that are accessible, etc. If you break it, you buy it. Trust me, we have seen it all in the time we have been airbnb hosts and don't want to go through any of that again. If you have young disciplined children that mind you, then let's talk about it when you make your reservation request. Again, if we do accept them, then you are responsible for their behavior and any damage they may cause. You are also responsible for your guests so please choose your traveling party wisely. Also, know that if anyone disturbs the peace with us or our other guests that you may be asked to leave out of consideration of others without refund. So please consider this carefully before booking your stay. Should your family not be as good fit staying in our home, you can still book a trail ride with one of our professional guides.

We do occasionally rent the other room upstairs on airbnb so you may be sharing the house with other guests.

Bring your food and drinks. We do not provide breakfast. However, we do provide coffee, juices, condiments, and try to keep fresh fruit on hand for you. Lunch and dinner MAY be available for an extra fee. Jen and I are typically here from Oct-May and love to cook for our guests. However due to our business travel schedule, we can't be there all of the time. You are welcome to prepare your own food in our fantastic kitchen but will need to coordinate cooking times with us and other guests, and last but not least, please clean up after yourself.

You are welcome to a variety of spices and condiments in our kitchen. We ask that if you use the last of an item, make a note for our housekeeper show she will know to get more of it.

There is a fire pit outside and beautiful pergola to relax with a cup of coffee, glass of wine, or dine at your leisure.

Guided horseback rides through the beautiful Sierra Foothills are available at the guest rate of $65.00 per person over 17 years old and $55.00 for 17 years old and under. Group rates are available. Advance reservations are required and subject to availability.

Our friend Sandi from Healing Hands Massage is an incredible massage therapist. You can visit her place in town or she will come here to the ranch.

During holiday weekends, lines can be very long to get into the park, so we recommend that you get an early start. It's about a 3 hour round trip to the General Sherman Tree and Giant Forest and back. See the park website for up to date info.

Finally, and I hate to even write this, but it seems that some past guests and guests of guests have helped themselves to a few of our personal effects in the house. Don't be that stupid person, ok. Stay somewhere else, or better yet, stay home. No host wants that. Also, whoever books the room is 100% responsible for the people they bring on our property so select your traveling partners wisely. We are cowboys and cowgirls here and like John Wayne, we don't tolerate thieves, liars, or otherwise. Our housekeeper inventories everything after you leave and if something is missing, our 3R resident deputy sheriff will be paying you a visit. Enjoy our property but we expect you to respect it as you would your own. Thank you in advance.

Neighborhood highlights

Our beautiful 2 story home is situated on 41 acres on a rarely traveled, dead end dirt road about 15 minutes from the entrance to Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Parks. Elevation here is about 900 feet in elevation so we do not get snow. In the fall and early winter, temperatures are mild and comfortable. Bears, deer, and turkey can be seen wandering around. Spring and early summer is primetime for whitewater rafting and kayaking on the Kaweah River, the steepest river in the lower 48 United States. Check our local online guide included with your reservation for professional guides and outfitters.

Water sports, boat rentals, and fishing are available on Lake Kaweah. The great thing about living on a ranch on a private road is that your closest neighbor is over 1/4 mile away. Besides the occasional car, the horses, cattle, and wildlife are about the only things we hear, so if you are looking for a peaceful getaway, this is it.

There's nothing like waking up in the morning with a cup of coffee and watching horses, cattle, bear, deer, coyotes, and bobcats from the safety and comfort of our front porch.

Check out the local guidebook that I have provided on our restaurant and shopping recommendations.
