NYC subway system in pretty complex, there are numerous trains you can take, depending on where you are going to:
E, A and C if you need the blue line
B, D, M, F - all stop on Broadway-Lafayette
Q, N, R on Canal and Prince (Q doesn't stop at Canal, since it is express)
Best way to get to Central Park: 1 (Red line) on Varick Street.

There are also yellow cabs, Uber, Lyft, Via, and CitiBike. Or just a pleasant walk.

Live like a local in a large, architecturally relevant, unique warehouse style walk-up with old wood flooring and random-period arts-loft accents, simply appointed for convenience and comfort. Beds were both amazingly comfortable. In the neighborhood, endless first-rate restaurants, shops, galleries and entertainment abound. Thank you to Jean-Marie for generously accommodating our short visit in this wonderful space.

I booked on behalf of my work colleague. Jean-Marie was a good communicator leading up to our stay. My colleague did have difficulty checking in at a decent time, but it ended up being ok. He did provide a flexible check out. One other thing to note is that there are 5 flights of stairs to walk up. Otherwise the location was ok.

Hello Natalie, Let me just clarify a few things if I can: 1/ "My colleague did have difficulty checking at a decent time": Natalie originally booked for 3 days later and at the last minute she asked to book 3 days earlier. I said yes to accomodate her boss but at one condition that they would check in late afternoon as there are other guests leaving the same day. She said no problem. The day of check in I get multiple requests for earlier check in and I gently responded that apartment was not ready. I made an extra mile to accomodate them and they were able to check in at 2pm vs. 6pm. But it did not seem to be enough for them... 2/ This is a walk up building and we are located on the top floor (3rd floor). Best regards, Jean-Marie

Clean, bright two-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen in a great location. The description was accurate, everything was in working order, and Jean-Marie checked in to sure we settled in easily. Overall, a wonderful hub to enjoy New York. I would definitely stay here again!

Area was a great,good eats,shopping close by,very central,easy gate to city!! At first, Jean-Marie seemed to be an excellent host. He left a bottle of wine for us to enjoy and lovely note that said " I also bought some groceries to make your stay more pleasant " Very generous! However, for future guests, we would recommend establishing some clarity on the parameters of such a gesture. If you have more than 2 guests staying, we would recommend requesting addition keys to the unit. We were only given 2 sets for 4 people and subsequently had to get more copies made at our expense. We did have several hiccups in our dealings with Jean-Marie and did find that his communication could use improvement. We arrived in New York during a heatwave to discover that the AC, which was a primary selling point, was not in working order. Something we feel should have been tested prior to our arrival. It did become operation before our departure so it's likely it won't be an issue in the future. The roof top has a good view but is pretty much unusable. It was boarded up during our stay and the photos are a little deceiving as the incline is quite substantial. There was only one couch, not two in the living room that is shown in the photos. The apartment came with no instruction on how to use the stereo. My fellow guest is quite tech savvy and still had an issue getting anything to work. In Jean-Marie's defence tho, we did not contact him to help us with this as too many other issues were taking precedent and he was away in France during our stay.

Let me describe what is an awful experience with Airbnb guest. It starts with red flags 1/ I am not sure John Hawkey stayed in our apartment. Had only 1 review from 4 years ago but I am nice host I wanted to be welcoming. 2/ You get a request from another "guest" who has never been on airbnb because he can't open the apartment. He said he was too drunk to be able to open the door (at 11am...). I offered early check in because I wanted to accomodate them. Second Red Flag! 3/ You get a request from another "guest" who has never been on airbnb who is making some more requests. No reviews. No nothing. 4/ When you come back to the apartment, you find "pills" all over the apartment and your apartment has been TRASHED (broken items in the bathroom, lamp broken, pillows and bed sheets torn, couch dirty all over,...) 5/ Last not but least, they "lost" my keys. I made a request to Airbnb and I am still waiting for a response. So in the meantime I have to take care to change key locks because who knows what could happen in my apartment. Airbnb promises that you will have a safe experience but in this case this was a nightmare & unsafe experience At the end of the day, you do your best to give your guests an awesome experience and they end up TRASHING your apartment. And Airbnb does not even seem to care. I called and left several notes already and I am still waiting for a response. After 15 days...
