Interaction with Guests
Very little once they follow me out to the Airstream...unless they need anything from me!
You will definitely need to rent a vehicle...an SUV of some sort is ideal!
Other Things to Note
Once we leave San Jose the road out to Shipwrecks is a dirt road for many miles (about 25 min from San Jose) and can be a bit bumpy but has the most breathtaking views along the way...it's the beauty of Baja!
No smoking indoors, clean up your messes and Be happy and respectable.
If you are traveling with a pet we should talk 1st because this is a no pets indoors place and a bit like the wild west out doors.
Though it's gated we do have coyotes, donkeys, goats and cows that roam freely along side the wild horses.
I have a users instruction check list for the very basic but necessary instructions that we can go over when I welcome you to this little Sanctuary.
This airstream has an amazing location if you are in the East Cape for surf. Closest place to stay by Shipwrecks, it's about a minute walk to the beach and you can hear the waves at night. The area is rich in wildlife and beautiful desert plants and far from civilization, it's truly beautiful.
Beth, the host is very welcoming, she met us at Mega in San Jose and showed us where to pick up ice and supplies. We stayed for 6 nights and didn't want to go to town often. ( closest town with supermarket, gas station is about 30 min away. ) It was a bit inconvenient that the airstream does not have a fridge. There is a cooler box to use but the ice melts in 2 days, so keeping your food or drinks cold is a challenge.
The airstream also does not have windows so it is truly a heatbox day and night. The windows are covered with plastic so there is no ventilation or breeze coming thru at all. We were at the beach all day so it was fine.
The airstream also has a few "pets". We had mice and roaches so had to go to town to buy traps. During our stay there was a bee hive below the entrance of the airstream and at times the bees got agressive. We got stung 3-times and the host told us that she knows a person who can move the bees but never actually moved them. I'd say this was not very convenient on vacation. We are not afraid of animals but if you are allergic or afraid of bees, I would recommend checking with the host before booking your trip.
Overall, this place has a great location and huge potential.
I would stay here again if the issues were fixed.
The place is well equipped with kitchen supplies so it's easy to cook. There is water available inside but much easier to shower outside. Cleanliness was ok. ( found a lot of mouse droppings )
My family and I had a fantastic adventure staying in the property. I say property because Beth was kind enough to include a brand new big tent and a shade structure to make our stay there even better.
An amazing place to unwind, and felt way more comfortable than plain old camping.
Beth and her partner made us feel like family when we arrived, I've never been so impressed by an airbnb host in making us feel welcome.
From the moment I booked Beth's Airstream, she was super communicative and articulate about what to expect. Beth checked in with me on multiple occasions prior to my boyfriend and I arriving in Mexico. She was kind enough to meet us at a supermarket in San Jose del Cabo to make sure we brought the things we'd need for our 3 day stay in her Airstream. She reminded us to get ice, water, and other essentials and even led us to where the Airstream was parked across from Shipwrecks Beach to make sure we didn't get lost.
Once we arrived, Beth gave us a tour of the camper. Inside the Airstream, we found clean towels, a hot water pack for using at the end of long salty beach days, candles we could light during dinner, and snorkel gear we could use during the day at the beach. Everything was organized neatly, stored intuitively, and easy to find.
The Airstream was a perfect place to come home to after a long day of exploring. Great nooks and crannies for reading, a table that expands for preparing/eating dinner, a comfortable bed for sleeping in the quiet desert with only the sound of waves and warm sunlight to wake up to. It was perfect and we would stay there again without question.
My friend and I had a great experience with Beth and her Airstream! Beth was amazing, organized, communicative, and welcoming. She met us in town and led us out to her great property. The Airstream is a 2-minute walk from Shipwrecks, which is in a relatively desolate area, so bring food and water. The road is unpaved and uneven, so we drove our sedan very slowly. A car with high clearance and 4-wheel drive is more desirable (especially given the thick sand on some parts of the road), but the sedan worked fine.
In addition to Beth's great personality, I enjoyed the rustic, desert Cabo experience. I definitely recommend staying with Beth.
Awesomeness being apparent, it must also be kept in mind that this is an Airstream (an aluminum trailer) in a hot, arid region, so expect to sweat nearly all day and night (we were there in the hottest part of year). Beth will make sure you have enough water. She also supplied a handheld fan and plug-in fan. At one point something happened with the solar panel or batteries and the power stopped working, which made the situation slightly more uncomfortable, but by no means unbearably so.
I would certainly stay with Beth again and definitely recommend the Airstream for those seeking a sheltered place to sleep with excellent proximity to Shipwrecks.
So, you've said it all before: you want to get off the beaten path, kick back and enjoy the scenery, get away from it all...this is your chance.
The Airstream in Shipwrecks is amazing and this is a list of the reasons why:
LOCATION: When looking west, it would appear that the Airstream is in the heart of the desert...surrounded by cacti and tumbleweeds, birds of prey, roaming cattle and the most amazing flora and fauna. Look east and you'll see nothing but the Sea of Cortez. From the kitchen window watch humpbacks breeching just a few hundred feet off shore and the beach is a 2 minute walk.
The road is bumpy, but not scary. Take your time (about 30 mins from San Jose del Cabo) and all will be well. In fact, being distracted by the scenery is the most dangerous part of driving to Shipwrecks.
ACCOMMODATIONS: The Airstream is as comfy and as private as it gets. It was spacious for two. Solar power gave us light in the evenings and there was no shortage of running water.
-Pack a battery operated radio (spanish and english stations are available) & flashlights etc.
-Before heading out to Shipwrecks you'll want to do a big grocery shop (of as many non-perishables as you can fathom eating). The fridge works but uses quite a lot of solar power.
-Rent a SUV. We had a 4-door compact and although we fared the road just fine, it would have been a more pleasurable journey in something a little more sturdy
-Do drive the WHOLE East Cape (up to Cabo Pulmo). It is a gorgeous drive and there a few restaurants along the way.
HOST: We were greeted by the most gracious of hosts. The scenery was worth the trip, but it was Beth who made the trip one that we'll never forget.
FABULOUS PLACE, FABULOUS HOST, BREATHTAKING SPOT! This is a great place to unwind and relax while exploring the East Cape. The Airstream is very clean, has very comfortable beds, the kitchen is well supplied with good pots and pans and has good stove. This place is a very short walk to the beach, where you can watch the locals every morning bring in their catch. Their is a local Tienda (store) not far for supplies. The stars are breathtaking, not to be missed. Beth met us in town and drove us out there, a neighbour friend of hers brought us lunch freshly got fish and tacos with a yummy sauce. We had a great time here.
