The Space

Thank you for taking the time to view my listing; I would love to help you enjoy your stay in the Charleston area, and I welcome your questions. Some questions, however, may be answered if you please continue reading....

Start with a convenient location, an inviting and knowledgeable host (that's me), a good amount of space, a master bedroom with a queen-sized bed overlooking the community swimming pool; add on a second bedroom with more storage options & two, full-sized beds, then add to that a kitchen stocked with all the major appliances and the smaller ones too (like your coffee maker & your hot-air popcorn popper among others), a comfortably-furnished living space with basic cable and secure, wireless internet, plus a VCR/DVD player with a Redbox just around the corner, and you have just discovered the absolute, best deal in the Charleston area!

Inflatable tubes are free for your use in the swimming pool or for a relaxing float trip down the world's longest, free-flowing, blackwater river--I can help you find the Edisto River or possibly show you myself, depending on how much privacy with your group you'd like during your stay! Don't forget your beach towels, beach blanket or beach chairs found in the hallway linen closet, and I can get you some toys to carry along too, maybe a Frisbee or a volleyball! Two beach cruisers (bicycles) are freely available as well, along with a bike rack which fits on your car's trunk for easy transport to the beach or even to the paved hiker-biker trails within one of our incredible county parks, the nearest located less than 1 mile away! Use my transferable county park pass to admit everyone in your vehicle into the parks for free, which makes for free beach parking near the best amenities at Folly, Kiawah or IOP. Although I will take care of laundering your towels and all bedding used during your stay at checkout, the washer & dryer are available for you to wash & dry your clothes as needed for $5.00 per load--free if you pay for 3 or more guests, and either way, I have the laundry detergent & fabric softener provided!

Please note that the unit is UPSTAIRS and there is no elevator, therefore it is not easily accessible to individuals with impaired mobility.

The neighborhood is well-established with mature trees and it is a quiet condominium complex bordering a quiet neighborhood of single-family homes. By "quiet", I mean "uneventful"; unfortunately it is NOT quiet when the trains pass by! The condo complex & its surrounding residential neighborhood is located adjacent to railroad tracks with a railroad crossing less than a block away, so there are train whistles sporadically throughout the day, and some at night. The trains do not wake me (I live in another unit which I also own in the same complex), nor have the trains woken any of the overnight guests I have had--although people have commented that it can be difficult to fall asleep while a train passes sounding its whistle--fortunately they do not last long! Plentiful shopping options for every-day needs such as groceries or sundries are located within minutes by car, along with chain restaurants & a popular shopping mall. The distance is possible to walk, however those businesses are along a busy commercial strip, so I do not recommend walking outside of either of the two, inter-connected, residential neighborhoods which are tucked back away from the hustle & bustle of the vehicle traffic. Either of the neighborhoods happen to be a great place for a walk, a run, or a bike ride, which is the safer route to bike to the mall!

You don't need to leave the immediate area to have an enjoyable stay, but if you plan to make your lodging this short distance outside of the City of Charleston, you will maintain easy access to that charming tourist city, and also open yourself up to accessing many of the other treasures of Berkeley & Dorchester Counties which most visitors to the region rarely see, all while saving yourself a considerable amount of money! Be smart...use the money you will save by not choosing more expensive lodging and by preparing some of your own meals to allow yourself the indulgence in some special outings or souvenirs!!! For when you are ready to get yourself someplace outside of the immediate area of the condo, public buses (~$2.00 each way) do stop nearby and the bus stop is walking distance (~7 minutes), and it is safe to walk, so there is access to downtown Charleston, the airport, and other areas if you do not have a motor vehicle. You can also inquire with me about my personal assistance with your local transportation needs; after all, at times I may be headed in the same direction and be able to help out! Bicycles, including the ones you may borrow from me, may be taken on the buses for no extra charge, which is a great way to see downtown Charleston, particularly on a weekday. With your own vehicle, however, you will see that my condo is in a really convenient and accessible location...about 20 minutes from downtown Charleston, 25 minutes to Mt Pleasant, and the Isle of Palms/Sullivan's Island/Folly beaches are only a 30-35 minute drive, so all the recreation and the historic plantations, antebellum homes, great restaurants, and other attractions are readily accessible!

As I often tell my girlfriend, I am one of the cheapest people on the planet, so I wouldn't mind sharing with you the places downtown or at the beach which offer free parking, or those restaurants which promote half-off food specials in the area. I can also make recommendations for other popular restaurants or tourist attractions if you would like to treat yourself to a greater variety of some excellent meals while you visit Charleston. One of my part-time jobs is as a kayak tour-guide for the biggest paddling outfitter in the area, and I genuinely enjoy meeting people from out-of-town, so don't hesitate to ask me about paddling opportunities by kayak or stand-up paddleboard. Visitors are welcome to stay for just a night or two on up to several months in case you are temporarily working in our area. I expect you will see that my rental rates are among the lowest out there...they are even less expensive the longer you stay because the cleaning fee is charged only once for each reservation and the weekly rate kicks in after seven nights! Please don't hesitate to send me your questions; I will look forward to hearing from you and hopefully welcoming you to the GREATEST Charleston area!

I am a teacher full-time and would like to honor other teachers, nurses, police officers, emergency personnel, clergymen, and active-duty members of the military as "hometown heroes". If you fit that description, or are the spouse of someone who fits that description, please ask me about discounted rental rates in your initial inquiry, and know that the special service which you provide is appreciated by so many, including me. Because I have enjoyed hosting my previous guests and I would like to build a rapport, I encourage those who have stayed with me on a previous occasion to also inquire about discounted rental rates on your 2nd, 3rd and 4th visits and beyond!

Thank you again for considering the use of my place for your stay; I hope to hear from you!

Best regards & safe travels no matter with whom you stay,

  • Having never visited the Charleston area, we were looking for a restful, spacious, comfortable home away from home. We found it! The listing was true to the space. Craig was a delightful and gracious host providing everything we could have needed and more for the week's stay. From suggestions on where to visit (including a beach pass if we needed it) and things to do, always with a smile and always happy to help in any way, it was a wonderful stay. We will return.

  • Absolutely perfect experience! Craig's place was clean, spacious, beautifully decorated, and convenient to everything ... and Craig was a perfect host. He left detailed notes, provided local snacks, and was always available via text for any concerns or questions we had. Folks like Craig, and places like his, are what make Air BnB the great community and travel opportunity it is -- highest recommendation!

  • Craig and I are neighbors and fellow AirBnB hosts in the same building. His 2 bedroom condo was perfect for housing several of my sorority sisters at our recent reunion. It allowed us all to stay close proximity to each other during the weekend activities. The condo was clean and welcoming with everything we needed. Location was excellent and parking was easy. Sleeping with a train in the distance was not a problem since we were so exhausted at the end of our fun packed days of adventure. Beds were comfortable and having 2 bathrooms was a time saver. Thanks Craig. Your mom is a sweetheart and was pleasant to meet when I met her for the key and she showed me around. I am sure opportunity will arise in the future to be able to book with you again.

  • Recently stayed at Bachman's place and it was great! Very clean, neat, and organized. He even had a few extra toys and chairs to bring to the beach. The complex was very calm and quiet. We were very pleased with our stay and would definitely recommend it to anyone!

  • We had a great time at Craig's condo. We came down to Charleston for a wedding and it was so much better (and cheaper!) than getting hotel rooms. Craig provided a beach pass, beach and regular towels, and a basket of treats. He was a helpful host but also just let us do our own thing. I'll definitely stay there again if I'm in Charleston!

  • Craig's condo is without a doubt the nicest accommodation we have ever enjoyed with Airbnb. Craig goes out of his way to provide everything you might think you will need and then some. I really cannot recommend Craig's condo too highly. You are close to Charleston and lots of other activities which Craig will help you organize while still respecting your privacy. He is a very gracious host. We look forward to returning next year.

  • We enjoyed our stay in the condo. It has many features that make it worthwhile. Walking in the neighborhood was very enjoyable, and Craig was always available to answer questions. We will return and have told our friends and family about this site.

  • Craig was very accommodating. We had an unusual situation and said okay! Nice place and fully furnished with extras like bikes and pool toys and picnic gear. We had everything we needed. It was like visiting family. WiFi, Calbe TV, Pool, everything...... Thank you.

  • Me and my husband came to Charleston to celebrate my (website hidden) was our first time. Craig was very friendly, help us to plan our visit. Suggested what worth to see, what not. we could use his bikes, that we took to Magnolia plantation, it was the best day.
Place is very nice, clean, everything you need. Neighborhood is safe, quite. The only negative thing was the train, but you get used to it.After a while you don't hear it.
The place is 20 min to the downtown, and 25 min to the beaches.
I would stay there again.Thank you, Craig!

Single guy who works to live (& travel) rather than lives to work. I enjoy having visitors, being a visitor, and meeting new people! On a regular basis during the school year I stay active teaching high school full time, college part-time, and spending time with my girlfriend. I like to play volleyball, go running or swimming, or basically just be outside! During the summer I enjoy guiding kayak tours in the area, and I usually volunteer a couple of weeks at a summer camp in which I used to be a counselor.
