About this listing
My conveniently located 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condominium has everything you need to have a memorable & affordable stay. You will truly live like a local in a spacious & comfortable home while you are in the Charleston area.
Thank you for taking the time to view my listing; I would love to help you enjoy your stay in the Charleston area, and I welcome your questions. Some questions, however, may be answered if you please continue reading....
Start with a convenient location, an inviting and knowledgeable host (that's me), a good amount of space, a master bedroom with a queen-sized bed overlooking the community swimming pool; add on a second bedroom with more storage options & a second queen bed, then add to that a kitchen stocked with all the major appliances and the smaller ones too (like your own coffee maker & a blender for frozen drinks), a comfortably-furnished living space with cable and secure, wireless internet, plus a VCR/DVD player with a Redbox just around the corner where gasoline is the lowest price around, and you have just discovered the absolute, best deal in the Charleston area!
Inflatable tubes are free for your use in the swimming pool or for a relaxing float trip down the Edisto River, the country's longest, free-flowing, blackwater river! Don't forget your beach towels, beach blanket or beach chairs found in the hallway linen closet! Use my transferable county park pass to admit everyone in your vehicle into the county parks for free, which makes for free beach parking near the best amenities at Folly, Kiawah or IOP. Although I will take care of laundering your towels and all bedding used during your stay at checkout, the washer & dryer are available for you to wash & dry your clothes as needed!
Please note that the unit is UPSTAIRS and there is no elevator, therefore it is not easily accessible to individuals with impaired mobility.
The neighborhood is well-established with mature trees and it is a quiet condominium complex bordering a quiet neighborhood of single-family homes. By "quiet", I mean "uneventful"; unfortunately it is NOT quiet when the trains pass by! The condo complex & its surrounding residential neighborhood is located adjacent to railroad tracks with a railroad crossing less than a block away, so there are train whistles sporadically throughout the day, and some at night. The trains did not wake me when I lived in the unit, nor have the trains woken any of the guests I have hosted--although people have commented that it can be difficult to fall asleep while a train passes sounding its whistle--fortunately they do not last long! Plentiful shopping options for everyday needs such as groceries or sundries are located within minutes by car, one supermarket is actually walking distance along pedestrian-friendly streets, and several chain restaurants & a popular shopping mall are likewise a 5-7 minute drive. The distance is possible to walk, however those businesses are along a busy commercial strip, so I do not recommend walking outside of either of the two, inter-connected, residential neighborhoods which are tucked back away from the hustle & bustle of the vehicle traffic. Either of the neighborhoods happen to be a great place for a walk, a run, or a bike ride, which is the safer route to bike to the mall!
Whether you will be in the area on a work or military assignment, a school rotation, or just a getaway you don't need to leave the immediate area to have an enjoyable stay, but if you plan to make your lodging this short distance outside of the City of Charleston, you will maintain easy access to that charming tourist city, and also open yourself up to accessing many of the other treasures of Berkeley & Dorchester counties which most visitors to the region rarely see, all while saving yourself a considerable amount of money! Be smart...use the money you will save by not choosing more expensive lodging and by preparing some of your own meals to allow yourself the indulgence in some special outings or souvenirs!!! For when you are ready to get yourself someplace outside of the immediate area of the condo, public buses (~$2.00 each way) do stop nearby and the bus stop is walking distance (~7 minutes), and it is safe to walk, so there is access to downtown Charleston, the airport, and other areas if you do not have a motor vehicle. Bicycles, may be taken on the buses for no extra charge, which is a great way to see downtown Charleston, particularly on a weekday. With your own vehicle, however, you will see that my condo is in a really convenient and accessible location...about 20 minutes from downtown Charleston, 25 minutes to Mt Pleasant, and the Isle of Palms/Sullivan's Island/Folly beaches are only a 30-35 minute drive, so all the recreation and the historic plantations, antebellum homes, great restaurants, and other attractions are readily accessible!
As I often tell my girlfriend, I am one of the cheapest people on the planet, so I wouldn't mind sharing with you the places downtown or at the beach which offer free parking, or those restaurants which promote half-off food specials in the area. My part-time job in the summer is guiding kayak tours for the biggest paddling outfitter in the area, and I genuinely enjoy meeting people from out-of-town, so don't hesitate to ask me about paddling opportunities by kayak or stand-up paddleboard. I expect you will see that my rental rates are among the lowest out there...they are even less expensive the longer you stay because the cleaning fee is charged only once for each reservation! Please don't hesitate to send me your questions; I will look forward to hearing from you and hopefully welcoming you to the GREATEST Charleston area!
Best regards & safe travels no matter with whom you stay,
During the warm weather seasons, guests are expected to keep the air conditioning set to 74oF (23oC) or warmer. Keeping the blinds closed during the sunny hours will help to keep the space cool. In cooler weather, if you ever experience it here near Charleston, guests are expected to keep the heat setting at 70oF (21oC) or cooler. These boundaries exist to keep the electricity bill manageable so I can continue to offer a reasonable rate to guests who wish to stay. If these temperature ranges are not within your comfort level, please contact me and I can collect a reasonable cash payment from you proportional to the amount of time and the number of degrees you prefer to adjust the temperature setting.
Neither smoking nor pets are permitted inside the unit. If you choose to smoke on the breezeway, please carry an ashtray or water-filled bottle to use as an ashtray, and do not throw cigarette butts over the railing. It is also against HOA rules to lay items (including wet beach towels) over the railing on the breezeway.
Please park in ONLY the designated space for unit 208 and/or any other UNMARKED parking space. It is against HOA rules to park in someone else's parking space, even if it is for a brief time. Please note that the swimming pool area is closed after sundown and it is a violation of HOA rules to be in that area after dark. Any HOA violation will result in a $25 withholding of the security deposit PER OCCURRENCE. Violating the smoking or pet policy will result in forfeiting the entire $500 security deposit.
The city of Hanahan has a noise ordinance in effect after 9 PM every night. Loud or large gatherings (greater than ~8 people) are not practical in the condo, but the community has a nice clubhouse suitable for events which can be reserved for larger or louder groups. To "rent" the community clubhouse there is only a $100 deposit required to the Homeowner's Association, which is refundable after the clubhouse has been properly cleaned by the users.
There are just a few things I would like to be upfront about before you decide to book. To my knowledge my condos are the lowest-priced, 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom accommodations on Airbnb in the Charleston area; they are an exceptional value--with flexible pricing based on the number of occupants. I manage the properties this way in hopes of keeping the units occupied.
Please note that certain services occur at specific points each month. For example, monthly pest control (2nd Friday each month by an HOA-contracted professional) and changing of the HVAC air filter in the unit (1st weekend of each month--by me, the owner). Any service provider intending to enter the unit will knock to see if it is occupied, and then enter the unit if you answer the door to let him/her in, or if no one answers the front door, he/she will use his/her key.
I am open to being flexible with the check-in time and the check-out time based on whether or not the unit will be used right away and I am able to get you a key! : )

Single guy who works to live (& travel) rather than lives to work. I enjoy having visitors, being a visitor, and meeting new people!
On a regular basis during the school year I stay active teaching high school full time, college part-time, and spending time with my girlfriend. I like to play volleyball, go running or swimming, or basically just be outside! During the summer I enjoy guiding kayak tours in the area, and I usually volunteer a couple of weeks at a summer camp in which I used to be a counselor.
