Thank you for your comment about your welcome and the house.
I do not agree at all your comment about the area of Dar el Bacha, located in the medina, old part of the town. I am not alone to assert this. It is considered by people living in the town or vacationers as “bourgeois” and a very safe area. The palace of Dar el Bacha is guarded by the army and the police at 100 m. from our derb (street)! There is also a gardien at the entrance of our street (not very useful for the reason above). What would you have thought to be at other places of the medina such as Dabachi, Azbest, Mellah areas! The cars and taxis arrive at 300 m of the house which is located on the straight way to our street! (2nd street on the left). As you were welcomed and at the arrival of your taxi, and accompanied to the house, your comment about the difficulty with your luggage is not realistic! I dare to write that it is a lie.
You are young and not familiar with travels. I think that for you it was a shock of environment, of culture, so far of Argentina, your country. I agree that at a minimum, the medina is not for you, because it is not conventional. Its approach is special but it remains for a majority of people the most charming part of Marrakech and a traditional more or less preserved way of life. All the information regarding the location of the house is published in our ad, so no surprise. Anyhow, I do not want to convince you about your stupid misunderstanding and I invite you to read other comments below.
If you did not like your short stay in the medina do not disgust the others. Translation: Si no le gustó su estancia corta en la medina no dé asco otros.
My mum and I spent a long weekend in Marrakech, staying at Dar Ahwach. The riad was perfect in every respect: its beautiful and authentic Moroccan décor, the great layout with a cool courtyard and pool at the centre, well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay, in an ideal location set back from the hustle and bustle of the souk (but with a very local shop and bakery and just a short walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa), and not least Sabah's wonderful welcome and breakfasts.
Francoise's driver Fayssal was brilliant - extremely reliable and prompt - and we felt very safe in his vehicle. We arranged a trip with him to the kasbah at Telouet (highly recommended) and then on to Ait Benhaddou - he was able to tailor the route and destinations to our requests and for a reasonable price.
We were delighted with every aspect of Dar Ahwach and will definitely book there again without hesitation next time we visit Marrakech.
We have just returned from a fantastic stay at Dar Ahwach! My husband and I stayed for ten days and it was just perfect. The weather was incredible when we were there so we made great use of the roof terrace to read and sunbath. The riad was very cool so we were able to cool down after a hot day!
The location was perfect. Near everything we needed. There is a bakery and small shop at the end of the road. We bough water from the shop and the smell of the bakery was wonderful walking past. It's a very safe area, we didn't feel in danger at all. There's even a man in a high vis jacket who walked us to our riad from the main road. I think, from what I have read/heard he was a tourist policeman.
We absolutely loved Sabbah. Her breakfasts were incredible. There was so much to eat that we were full until dinner time! Sabbah cooked for us one night and her tagine was incredible. We had some conversation with her but sadly neither of us speak very good French so conversation was small. We met her son one day, he's studying English at university so we got to hear about Sabbah's family and ask him questions about Marrakech.
We had an absolutely idillic stay in Marrakech and staying at this riad was the main reason! It really is a tranquil, peaceful retreat from the busy streets of Marrakech.
If you decide to stay in Marrakech I suggest you download the Marrakech Riad Travel Guide app. Clearly not to find a riad as Dar Ahwach is just perfect! But the app suggests lots of places to eat and shop. It also lists all of the main attractions, like museums etc. It has a function shows where you on the app map, like google maps but it works without gps or wifi. We used it all the time and it meant that we didn't get lost once!
We couldn't of been happier with our stay at Dar arwach. The riad is beautiful and Francoise has obviously spent a lot of effort making it so. The bedroom was beautiful and the bed really comfortable.
The roof terrace is really comfortable and we enjoyed laying up there at all times of day, especially when the call to prayer started. When its clear you get a great view of the mountains from the riad roof terrace.
The riad is in a great location in the northern medina, near Dar el basha where you an easily get a taxi at any time. There are lots of souks nearby and some lovely food places. We liked the neighbourhood a lot. 10p bread at the end of the street!
Francoise was incredibly helpful beforehand giving us information and answering questions. She has left lots of information in the riad on Marrakesh and places to eat. She arranged Fayssal to meet us at the airport.
Our stay was made even more special because of the help of Sabba the housekeeper and Fayssal who took us on a trip to the Ourika valley in the atlas mountains. I would recommend taking this trip if you can, its beautiful and a great hike - wear proper shoes/trainers.
Sabba and Fayssal are both the kindest most helpful people you will ever meet and we are very grateful to them. Sabba is an amazing cook and makes lovely pancakes and doughnuts, and we enjoyed her company and appreciated all her help.
I cannot recommend Dar arwach enough if you are going to Marrakesh - we only want to stay here now.
Thankyou so much!
Thank you so much for having us to stay! We loved your Riad- an oasis of calm amidst the bustle of Marrakesh. Sabah made us so welcome, with tea on arrival and lovely breakfasts every morning. Thank you for organising Fayssal to meet us at the airport too. He also took us out for a day to the foot of the Atlas Mountains, which we loved. Your charming house made our stay perfect.
An absolutely gorgeous place - an oasis of calm in busy Marrakech. The main bedroom is very spacioud, the second one smaller but perfectly fine for our 2 children. The roof terrace is a lovely place to hang out.
The very friendly housekeeper made us most welcome.
I can wholeheartedly recommend this riad.
