The place is absolutely beautiful and a very unique (and large!) spot in NY. Gowanus is a bit spread out so be prepared to walk a bit to most places, but there is a fantastic restaurant right next door. Host is nice but very strict about any overtime. It's rather expensive, but a really special spot. The huge outdoor deck is a major plus!!

Really lovely space! So much natural light and great furnishings. Ute is an excellent communicator and is in constant contact whenever you need her. We came from the UK for our wedding, but the time difference was never an issue. This place is a home, but also a beautiful, spacious, well decorated, well lit space. We loved the industrial feel and the roof deck. When you first arrive, the place looks less than fairytale (haha) but HONESTLY, believe me when I say it's an absolute gem of a place!! Beautiful views, lush plants, a gorgeous tree that provides shade from the sun and PLENTY of space for many guests! I would live here if I had the chance. Seconds away from Freek's Mill, minutes from Ample Hills Creamery and lots of places for groceries etc. Also a club directly opposite (zero noise by the way, we only spotted it when we were checking out the fantastic view from the kitchen Windows!) The subway is ages away (30mins walk) but we used Uber as we had a lot of luggage. Ute was kind enough to let us use the children's toys and the cool sandpit outside for our smaller guests. Such an interesting place with gorgeous art hanging everywhere. Huge bedroom with lots of chairs and table space. One negative: We weren't keen on having someone there during our intimate wedding. Basically, a guy called Kurt (as lovely as he is) comes to stay at your event. I felt there wasn't any trust, even though we'd been in constant contact throughout. My parents weren't impressed- it felt like he was there to watch and report our every move. He was very, very nice and became our friend by the end, but I was told he'd be downstairs at the door, did NOT expect him to be sitting in the room with us during the whole event!!! It was awkward in the beginning. Just a perfect place for a wedding (minus the one tiny negative). So so glad I found it on here!

We're still on a high from our wonderful wedding weekend at Ute's home. We received a lot of compliments on the space and the indoor space and rooftop provided more than enough room for our 65 person event. The decor was charming, rustic and cozy. The street is both industrial and residential but the loft is a hidden gem. A short walk to restaurants, bars, nightlife and public transportation, Ute's space was ideal for the type of wedding we wanted; a bit off-kilter, intimate, cozy and fun. We live in Brooklyn but felt like we were on vacation! A couple of suggestions: if you do have an event at Ute's, be sure to let any rental/delivery companies know as there are two flights of stairs involved and we were told they would have appreciated knowing that in advance. We didn't have a back-up plan, weather-wise, so that's something to think about if you're having an outdoor event. Thankfully, we lucked out and the weather was perfect. Also, Kurt, Ute's event manager was friendly, kind and chill. It was a great time all-around! We would def stay at Ute's again!

The host did make us feel welcome. The neighborhood was scary at first, very industrial looking, we got used to it. There were several lightbulbs out that I changed to make loft seem lighter. I enjoyed staying there, lots of space, nice and quiet. But lacked space where you needed it the most. The bathroom needed a least a hook to hang toiletries and there should have a part of the closet available to hang clothes, We had to live out of our suitcases the whole time. I loved the spacious living room, but the sleeping arrangements were not comfortable. The full bed was not big enough to fit two tall adults, my husbands feet hung off the bed and the kiddie bedroom certainly could not fit two more adults, advertising that it sleeps 4. The freezer was filled with frost and dripping ice-cream and at times the front part of the loft smelled like trash. Also I'm not sure who is on the other side of the door of the kitchen that is marked "private" but we kept hearing noises and didn't feel like we had privacy. I liked it a lot more then my husband who claims he got a cold and sinus infection from the amount of dust there was behind the dressers. I made the best of it, he let it ruin his week.

Ute was communicative and fair. We used her space for a photoshoot and it went very smoothly. She was away during our stay but her shoot coordinator was friendly, responsive and helpful.

We enjoyed our stay at Ute's loft. It is a huge space in a great neighborhood. Convenient location for the subway and numerous restaurants/bars.

Ute's place is an amazing place to host an event. We had a gorgeous evening on the roof. Ute and Joel provided the apartment very clean and empty of personal belongings which made decorating and setting up a breeze.

I am originally from Germany and moved from Berlin to New York, working here in the arts for over 7 years now. I love the city, and Brooklyn is the best. I moved to Gowanus from Williamsburg for the variety of the different neighborhoods here (elegant residential and old school industrial without the massive crowds).
