A hidden gem, just 40km from Rio, built on the most pristine lush tropical forest this house was inspired by portuguese colonial arquitecture and old farm houses. A river runs through the terrain feeding a natural running water swiming pool.

The Space

This is a new house with a feeling of an old farm. The kitchen has a wood burning stove and is integrated with the ample living room and the veranda. All rooms open up to the beautiful nature all around and have AC. The roof is beautiful from the outside , with its old farm tiles and from the inside. The garden has various exotic palm trees and rare orquids.

Guest Access

Guests will have acess to all the house, a big nice veranda, a big garden, a natural running water swiming pool and a river to bathe.

Interaction with Guests

I will be there to greet you and will available in case you need anything. My local helper lives around the corner and is a very helpful and nice person.

The Neighborhood

We are located next to Parque Estadual da Pedra Grande, a big natural reserve so there is abundant wildlife and nature. Be prepared to be visited by tucanoes!
Vargem Grande is considered a gastronomical hub (people come from Rio the city over to eat here) and there are plenty of good restaurants.
Amazing beaches are only 12 km away.

Getting around

Public transportation is not good so you need a car to get around.
I usually send a driver to the airport to guide the guests home on their rented car.

Other Things to Note

If you are lucky you will be visited be a sloth! but dont worry, she is very sweet a just hangs out there on the trees. Tucanoes are a common sight.
This house is particularly great for children, they seem to enjoy it a lot.

  • I'll only say one word: go. Don't hesitate. Not even a little. It'(email hidden). I went there. I made peace with myself, with life, with the world. I feel love. I found God. And certainly didn't want to come home.

  • Veronica was incredibly welcoming and generous! Her home is paradise! Tucked in the jungle, being in her home is a once and life experience. We can't thank her enough for having us at her magical home.

  • Let's say it! There are good places to stay, great places to stay, and just unforgettable, awesome and dream-like places to stay...Veronica's house at Vargem Grande is one of those.
It is absolutely beautiful, much more beautiful and spacious than pictures show (and pictures are already very nice, aren't they?). It is elegant in a very simple and even cozy way. A combination just perfect for families or friends groups that appreciate a natural and relaxed lifestyle without neglecting style at all, and pretty difficult to get.
The place gardens and its surroundings are amazing, very green and lush. Truly paradisiac and with a little bit of adventurer taste.
The nearest beach to house, Prainha, is a little and cute surfers spot. Very much relaxed and enjoyable than other crowded Rio beaches. Lots of nice buds practicing yoga, stand up or just surfing the waves, and of course... "that" reggae feeling that make a beach and life just seem perfect...

We are just happy with coconut water and acai (an amazonian berry), but there's quite a few respectable places for a nice dinner.
    Specially Skunna (Great Calamari!).

The area even has very remarkable cultural points, like the house of a very distinguished landscape architect (Burle Marx) and the Museum Casa do Pontal, which is without exaggerating ravishing.

We didn't have the chance to meet Veronica (she was traveling abroad that week), but Beto, her housekeeper, was there to receive us and show us around, and was always willing to help if needed. Great man, don't miss him!
Anyway, Veronica was reachable by e-mail all the time and always very kind and attentive. We arrived late at night and she left a wonderful lentil soup and a nice pain au levain for us and also some basic groceries for us in the fridge. She also left a lot of toys, books and lovely details all over the house for our little daughter to play with and discover.

Dreamy house, dreamy place and wonderful hosts…What else could one ask for? We are already wishing to go back!

Obrigada Veronica.

I had a dream of one day building a house in the country side, surrounded by beautiful nature and its amazing sounds. One day I found the most amazing piece of land, bordered by a river, close to a conservation unit, with amazing lush vegetation and full of different species of palm trees (a personal favorite). This house is the dream come true. Inspired by gorgeous portuguese colonial style, every little space was carefully thought of and designed by me. Living in bustling Rio de Janeiro it is the perfect escape into nature, not only because of its deliciousness in general, amazing surroundings, proximity to great beaches (15 minutes), but because it is so close to the city - 42 km, which makes it very simple to pack and go. On a normal day, avoiding rush hour, one takes 50 minutes to get there from Rio. This a quiet nature retreat, but the neighborhood (Vargem Grande,10 minutes) is considered a Gastronomical Pole with many nice restaurants. The area also has an ample tradition of horseback riding. Besides the abundant lush nature, waterfalls and great hiking trails, it is close to the best beaches in Rio de Janeiro - Prainha and Grumari, also a surfer's haven, 10km away.
