About this listing
The flat is situated on the 2nd floor in an very well kept former Hotel Building. It consists of a living room, 1 bedroom with 1 double bed and 1 single bed, a separate kitchen and a bathroom with washer/dryer. There are 3 small balconies facing east with a spectacular view of mountains, city and the sea. A local market as well as supermarket and a few shops are only 3 minutes away, and the beach is within 1000 m. The Palace is situated in its own park, where there is the possibility of parking.
We had a wonderful week at the winter palace. Inge's apartment is spacious, clean and well lit. We loved the sitting room with the big sofa. The apartment is situated on a hill and is a very welcome execise at the end of the day (5 minute climb). The heat during the night was easily dealt with with the fan. The seagulls were noisy, but that is a Menton thing. We were warned and ear plugs do the trick. We highly recommend this apartment when visiting Menton and the rest of the region.
Beautiful building, lovely apartment. Didn't realise how steep a hill and how many steps we had to climb to get there though.Exhausting. Very quiet at night and beautiful views of the town.
We enjoyed a very happy week in Menton at the end of September, staying in Inge’s apartment. The Winter Palace evokes the spirit of the Belle Epoque era. The high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows mean that all the rooms are flooded with Mediterranean light. Opening the shutters each morning to watch the sun rise over the sea was an absolute delight!
We were greeted on arrival by Djordje, who had prepared the apartment and switched on electricity, water, wifi router etc. Everything was clean, tidy and welcoming. The cupboards are full of a wide range of useful items such as a hairdryer, paperbacks and insect repellent (I wish I’d found it before the Menton mozzies found me). The bedroom is large and comfortable with masses of hanging space and hangers. The beds were comfortable and extra linen was available if needed. The kitchen and bathroom were well equipped.
You need to be reasonably fit to choose this apartment. There is the climb up the alley-way from Menton, the steps up through the Winter Palace’s garden (which is delightful) and more stairs within the building. During our stay the lift was out of order, which added to the fitness workout, as the apartment is on the second floor, but we understand that it will soon be back in service.
We would recommend this apartment as a charming place to stay, and hope to return in the future.
Thank you for your nice response, it is a bit difficult to make official comments, when you not always meet the persons, who are visiting. Our communications has however been fine, and I would love to welcome you back.
About 2nd key, it is usually there, but the guests before you, did not leave it where we could get hold of it before your arrival, sorry.
Regarding the oven, you have to use matches to turn it on (as mentioned in the description of the flat), but I will have a look at it anyway.
We have had wonderful time; the flat is very clean, spacious and charming.. Looks exactly like on the pictures. We have enjoyed our sundowners while watching the see and the city from the kitchen's balcony, the view is really amazing. I should mention there is no air conditioning but a few working ventilators and by putting the curtains down in the morning, there will be no heat in the afternoon . The evenings are very pleasant and worth to stay there. Inge is a very responsible charming host, thank you again for letting us stay in this beautiful flat - I would recommend it to everyone looking for a relaxed, stress-free time in Menton.
Lovely, spacious apartment with loads of light and a spectacular view from the French balconies in all rooms. Contains all you need, easy to keep clean. Situated in a beautifully restored hotel from La Belle Epoque, surrounded by a stunning and well kept garden.
We had the pleasure of staying here for 3 weeks and we will definitely come back. We loved it!
Getting up and down from town by foot requires quite many stairs, but for that view it is worth it! And my legs sure didn't mind the work out;-)
Just plan your shopping unless you have a car and can drive all the way.
Had some problems sleeping due to fighting screaming seagulls early every morning, close the windows!
Thanks Inge, we are back in Oslo now, but our hearts are still in Menton.
The flat is wonderful - spacious and full of atmosphere.
It is a great place to stay, and Inge Alsbo is a reliable and helpfull host. The flat is kept in the old style of the house, but with all the modern equipment.
Great view of the city of Menton, the sea as well as the mountains!
