For those who are looking for a comfortable and pleasant place to stay in Athens you are offered accommodation in an apartment conveniently situated in Ano Petralona, one of the most beautiful and central neighborhoods of Athens.
If you enjoy walking it is possible from my place to stroll around the central and historical Athens and get a very good view of it in that way. If you are not the walking type of tourist there are easy alternatives as the metro station and the trolley-bus station are nearby.
You can easily reach the historical Filopapou hill, where Pnyx and Filopapos monument are, and wander around as there are nice paths all over the hill and also parts with panoramic views (also nice sun-sets). You can enjoy sun-bathing or reading a book lying under a tree and relaxing with the bird sounds.
After crossing the hill (15 min walk) you reach Acropolis hill, Acropolis museum and Ancient Agora, all three not to be missed sites. Other most interesting, nearby areas, which can also be reached easily on foot, are Plaka (ask the way to Anafiotika – you will be impressed), Kerameikos, Monastiraki and its Flea Market, Thisseion, Dionyssiou Areopagitou and Apostolou Pavlou pedestrian zones and Ermou Street (the main shopping street in Athens). They are all touristy places with cafes, restaurants and shops without traffic and the busy atmosphere of other places in Athens.
My apartment is in a very nice area with no high buildings, as it is not permitted due to its proximity to the historical part of Athens. It is a way to preserve the atmosphere of Athens as it used to be which is a very positive aspect for us living here
The neighborhood is also well connected to public transport and you will find your way easily both from the port or the airport (information in my directions filed). The tram station is also easily accessible which can take you to one of the various beaches of the city.
The neighborhood of Petralona itself has plenty of restaurants, cafes and even an open-air cinema (with subtiltled movies) and has become lately an attraction pole of people from all parts of Athens who enjoy its nice, relaxing atmosphere and its various alternatives in terms of food and drinks. Since you mainly find locals in the area the quality and pricing of food is better compared to other touristy places. If you have the time to explore this historic residential area you will be amazed to see its part of the houses of stone (ta petrina) that looks like a village in the mountains and was made to house the refugees from the Anatolia coast, its many neoclassical houses, a small hidden part with narrow paths and white detached houses looking like being in a village and also its open-air grocery market every Friday.
The apartment is located 400m away from the metro station of Petralona (green line).
The 80m house is to the 1st floor of a 3 floors building. It is bright, sunny and airy, clean and very comfortable. It provides
- one bedroom with double bed and access to a small private balcony
- fully equipped kitchen
- fully equipped bathroom
- easy parking
- hardwood flooring
- hot water 24/7
- internet access
- washing machine
- CD-MP3-radio player
- hair dryer
- clean sheets and towels
- basic ingredients for preparing your breakfast
- access to 150m terrace
- pets are most welcome to apartment and building
- bicycle if needed
I had a fantastic stay in Athens with Chrysa.
The room was exactly as described, and my privacy was always guaranteed even though we were sharing the apartment. Chrysa is a generous host, not only with her home but also with her time. I always enjoyed our hallway conversations, which were conducted in both English and Spanish. On my first night she offered to drop me off at the supermarket to get some groceries, and when I left she was kind enough to drive me to the station. Her apartment is in a very quiet street, yet close to everything. I hardly ever took the metro during my stay there.
If you are thinking of staying in Athens, contact Chrysa!
Chrysa's apartment is very clean and has cute interior by her good sense!! The apartment is in very quiet area with beautiful trees because of residence area. However it is convenience for sightseeing. That's why , we can go around on foot.
Also Chrysa is a great host. She is so kindly , gently and very helpful. She gave me a map , let me know the good sightseeing area in Greece and prepared bred , coffee, tea, vegetable , fruits for eating. Anyway, everything was perfect. I could feel relax that likes real my room and my home in her apartment. So, her apartment is very comfortable. If you can stay in her apartment, you are a lucky person!!
I popped over to Athens on a whim and, to be honest, didn't spend a great deal of time researching places to stay or their hosts, but Chrysa seemed to have mostly positive reviews and the flat looked nice, so I booked.
The flat is a little bit hard to find, but Chrysa knows this and provides loads of really detailed information on how to get there and I arrived about an hour early.
Chrysa was out delivering soup to a poorly friend in the same block.
And that's a pretty good summary of Chrysa. She's friendly, always cheerful, totally helpful and 100% the sort of person who brings you soup when you are ill.
If you're there on a Friday and have the opportunity to go to the fruit and veg street market - GO! For someone like me, not used to the quality and price of fresh vegetables, Mediterranean style, it's an amazing experience. Row upon row of simply the finest, mot delicious looking (all organic) comestibles - and at prices that make you want to come back with a suitcase.
During the day, Chrysa's flat makes the perfect base camp for exploring Athens - with so much to see all around, and almost impossible to get more central. Chrysa gave me a map and loads of advice - all of it good. Try to come away from the pure tourist routes if possible. The sun setting over Athens from the hill behind the house is one of those life-time experiences that you should try to treat yourself to.
I hope to come back to Athens next year and when I do, it will definitely be to stay here again.
The location of this private room in Chyrsa’s apartment is perfect. Two blocks away you can be walking through the park to reach the Acropolis and other attractions. Nearby are nice restaurants and public transportation is easy to access. Chrysa was great host and made my stay in Athens comfortable..Her place is clean and organized. I highly recommend staying here.
I had a great stay at Chrysa's; unfortunately I could only stay two nights as I moved on to Istanbul. The location is safe and near a Metro station. There are restaurants nearby, the home is very clean, the bed is very comfortable and wifi worked great. Her place was everything promised and more. Chrysa was a very engaging hostess who shared a lot with me about both Athens and Greece.
Great Wonderful stay at Chrystas place! She is so nice and helpful, and me and my boyfriend loved so much that it was so close to the magical park from where you can see Acropolis and still feel the ancient Greece energy! perfect location and so nice "hostess" ;)
With Love, Ninna
Just came back from a very enjoyable 6 day trip from Athens, and the most important factors which made my trip so nice was that I stayed at Chrysa's place.
She has a very nice home where you get your spacious , clean properly furnished room in her very well decorated home. The room has its own balcony to sit and relax.
The home is in the perfect location for a visitor to Athens. The train station is 8-10 min away by foot and some trams routes are available at the door step. I walked to the Acropolis, Syntgama, Plaka and other areas. Apart from this, there are lots of restaurants, cafes, clubs, everything nearby (walking or couple of stations on the metro if you want to go to specific place like Gazi etc).
Chrysa is a wonderful human being, very helpful and cheerful. She provided me with all the necessary information and guidelines to see Athens. I felt completely at home while living at her place, and this ease and comfort of stay greatly enriched my whole experience of Greece.
Amazing room in Athens! I recommend it whole-heartedly. Chrysa is a lovely host. My boyfriend and I stayed for a week and really enjoyed the apartment, the neighborhood, everything.
Chrysa was a delightful host! She and I coordinated meeting early upon the day of my arrival, and she made living at her apartment very easy. I had my own set of keys and was able to come and go as I pleased. Her neighborhood is adorable, safe, and accessible, and the bedroom was clean, quiet, and private. I had a great time exploring her neighborhood, especially the restaurants with Greek only menus and authentic Greek cuisine. The streets were tree lined and adorable, and I enjoyed the moon lit ambience of her neighborhood at night. At some points I truly felt like I was living in Athens and not just a tourist there. Even though the apartment is about a 15 minute walk from the main touristy parts of Athens, the walk to the Acropolis was short and beautiful and at night I was able to escape the Plaka crowds. I truly recommend staying with Chrysa in her homey Athens apartment! Thank you again for a great stay!
We had a wonderful time at Chrysa's place and loved getting to know her for the brief time we were there. Her flat is in an excellent neighborhood if you want to get a sense of regular Greek life while also being in easy striking distance of major sights such as the Acropolis. There's great local cafes only a 5 minute walk away in Mercury Square. She went out of her way to help us with our touring plans as well as giving us tips on local spots like a Friday street market and a local Cretian restaurant. The room was comfortable and it was easy to use the kitchen and the bathroom. Chrysa’s advice and information made all the difference in our stay - we felt like we were able to connect with Greek culture so much better than we would have on our own, and we felt like we were staying with a good friend.
