TRANSPORTATION
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The 30th Ave N, Q subway is less than 3 minutes walking distance from our apartment (but you don't hear any noise from the subway in our apartment.)

Getting anywhere in Manhattan is easy. A quick 15 minute ride will put you right by Central Park, Times Square, Upper East Side, etc.

The N,Q gets you to all sorts of other subways/transit including The Port Authority, Grand Central Station, and Penn Station. You can buy your subway metrocards at our station.

La Guardia Airport is a quick 15 minute / $18 dollar car ride. We'll give you the number of our favorite car service. They pick you up right at the airport if you call and let them know your flight number. There's an easy bus from La Guardia that's an even cheaper trip, and it drops you off a couple of blocks from our place.

JFK is a quick 25 minute / $32 car ride. We'll give you the number of our favorite car service. They pick you up right at the airport if you call and let them know your flight number. By public transportation it's a little over an hour and the subway is less than two blocks from our place.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
SAFETY
-----------------------------------------------------------------
We're less than two blocks from the subway, between two schools and on the way to the subway there's a 24 hour grocery store, so coming home late is not an issue.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
OUR APARTMENT
-----------------------------------------------------------------
We have good wifi, a microwave, gas stove, oven, coffee maker, a juicer, and tons of tea for you. You can have use of our kitchen (like storing things in our fridge and using our cooking things) as long as you wash the dishes and clean up.

We'll give you hangers so you can hang any clothes or jackets in the room off of our tall standing light (you can see it in the photos). There's a small hand held mirror in the room, and a full length mirror in the hallway right outside the door.

The room has a full-size futon that comfortably holds a couple or close friends. We also have a twin air mattress that will fit next to the futon if needed for a third guest, but the room is a bit tight that way. It's best for one or two people.

Clean towels and sheets are included.

There's one bathroom that's shared between us and our guests.

We're on the first floor of our building, so you don't have to worry about lugging your luggage up flights of stairs.

THE LOCATION
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Astoria itself has tons of restaurants and shops, be sure to check out our guidebook for our recommendations.

Highlight: we're a short walk to the last original remaining Beer Garden in all of NYC: Bohemian Hall Beer Garden.

There's an awesome authentic and cheap mexican place on the corner called El Grill open late if you're in need of a good snack.

If you're a runner, there's a good mile and a half route you can take to the river by Socrates Park. During the summer there's lots of free weekend programming and a farmer's market on Saturday.

Astoria Park is a mile away. It's really nice; with a track, a playground, and more.

Flushing Queens is an easy subway around and boasts one of the best Chinatowns in the United States.

  • Ahhh New York! I had an amazing time. This was my first experience staying anywhere other than a hotel. I was tentative but Kate and Emily calmed my nerves by sending me detailed instructions and a welcome letter. When I arrived everything was clean and the apartment had a welcoming feel. The location was incredible, just a quick walk to the subway, which quickly put me right in the heart of the city. I liked that I could come and go-I'm a night owl, so staying out late or showing up in the morning to shower was perfect! I would definitely stay with Kate and Emily again. The price, location, and apartment was an overall positive experience.

  • I highly reccommend staying at Emily and Kate's apartment in Astoria,Queens. The room was very decorative and tidy and the hosts were exceptional! Also, it's the perfect location to stay since it's walking distance from a subway and 10 minutes from Laguardia Airport,. I also really enjoyed the neighborhood restaurants and great community vibe I received from the area.

  • We stayed at Emily and Kate's for four nights and we enjoyed every one of them! The girls and their appartment are cheerful and welcoming! We were able to use the kitchen and the bathroom at any time of the day, but had total privacy in our own room. There is a nice bathtube with a very good and very hot shower! :) The girls even provide little bottles of shampoo and toothpaste as well as some snacks and basic kitchen stuff! Felt totally comfortable and welcome!

Furthermore, Queens Astoria is a really good place to stay for your NYC vivsit! We were unsure whether to stay in Manhattan or Queens and were really happy to have chosen for the latter. This way you simply see and experience more of the city! And Astoria with its museums and really good Greek restaurants is worth a day of exploration on its own.

We can recommend Kate and Emely's place without any hesitation and would go back there if ever visiting the city again.

  • My two friends & I stayed in this apartment for 3 nights in Aug 2012.

Emily was a fantastic host who was easy to communicate with before and during our trip. Although we did not meet in person, she was always just a phone call away if we ever needed anything.

The apartment is in a great location - a very short walk away from a subway station that will take you directly into Manhattan. It's in a safe neighbourhood that's filled with many shops & restaurants (make sure you check out some of Emily's restaurant recommendations - they're delicious!). The apartment was spotless & the beds were comfortable. It's obvious that Emily puts alot of effort into making sure that the guests in her apartment feel right at home!

We would highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a clean, safe, and affordable place to stay while visiting NYC - you won't be disappointed! I'd return here in an instant.

  • My daughter stayed with Emily and Kate for a week and said her accommodations and hosts were great! Nice private room and safe area in Astoria. Will definitely refer to her friends who are sure to visit.

  • Kate & Emily were very nice hosts. The apartment, the kitchen, the bathroom and the bedroom are very clean and the colors are indeed charming. The location is great, with a lot of shops, restaurants, supermarkets and really close to the subway. The bed is a bit small but enough for a loving couple. The kitchen is well furnished with all the commodities you could need, and tea, snacks, etc.
We really enjoyed our stay. We haven't seen a lot Kate & Emily but they were very friendly and the gave us a lot of information about public events, good addresses. They were very helpful and they always answered quickly by email. The internet connection was not working during our stay, but they refund us some money back for the inconvenience.
We really appreciated the room, our stay and our two hosts and we'll be happy to come back as soon as possible.

  • Our stay at Emily & Kate's place was great! It was our first time visiting New York, and finding a nice place to stay at a reasonable price seemed impossible until we found their place! Before arriving, we were a bit concerned about there being a futon and not a bed, but it was pleasantly firm and much more comfortable than expected! We were bummed that we never had the opportunity to meet them in person, but communicating with Emily before and after our trip was a pleasure! Due to an early morning flight, we rushed out of the apartment and left something behind, but Emily kindly sent it back to us via priority mail and for that we will be forever grateful! Thank you for a great stay and a great first experience to New York! We highly recommend staying with them!

  • Emily is "the host" one would hope for. She communicated well with me before and up to the day of my arrival. Her place was picture perfect...all towels, sheets and dishes clean. She even provided those little "extras" you see in hotels....you know, just incase you may left them at home. Her knowledge and willingnessness to help you find what to do while in Queens/Manhattan is down right amazing!! As I stated in the start Emily was the host I'd hoped for and I highly reccomend this adorable place!

  • Our stay was extremely nice. The house was very clean and everything looked exactly like the picture. Even though they were not there at the apartment they were more than accommodating. Any thing that we needed or it was thought that we may need Emily was on top of it. She even sent emails and had out travel sized necessities that one would get at a hotel. Emily was even nice enough to leave snacks.

The apartment is very close to the train station as well as Manhattan. All and all we had a wonderful stay and would stay at the apartment again when we visit New York.

  • I've stayed in Emily's apartment last weekend and it was great experience. Emily and her romate are extremely polite and great hosts. She was also very flexibile in regards to check-in and check out time which is very important for the travellers that arriving in NYC. The apartment is very clean and colorful (as advirtised) and the room is convinient, just behind the entrance and next to the bathroom so you can have your own privace if you want. And the location is perfect. It is very easily accesible from La Guardia airport (only 15 min) and from Manhattan (15 minutes by N/Q trains that are always empty and operates very frequanelty). The neighborhood is diverse and you can find all different food just a block or two away from the apartment with the prices that are almost double cheaper then on Manhattan. It is excellent place to stay and to explore New Yor City by living as a real Newyorker :) I would gladly recommend Emily's place to anyone with the higest convinience.

About
I enjoy the arts, going to events, running, music, design, and exploring new neighborhoods. My favorite places in Manhattan include Soho, the Lower East Side, and Flatiron. My favorite NYC restaurants are Bareburger, Blockheads, Peanut Butter and Co., Num Wah Tea Parlor, and brunch at Sanfords. My first AirBnB stay was in a treehouse in Santa Cruz.
