Dominic and Helena are wonderful and hospitable. They laid the road work for an adventure of a lifetime. The fireflies blend Into the night sky at Jurassic park. Simply magical
We had a wonderful jungle experience. The bungalow was great and natural. We give our big approval to the eco-thinking Dominic is evolving. Insects make a lot of noise in the night, light flies is magic. The place is a little of the town so you'll see a different local everyday life. Prepare yourself on going by motor-taxis and shop groceries over the desk with your best spanish. Both Helena and Dominic was very helpful and we talked a lot. The bungalow-neighbors were also very sweet, we had some real nice evenings together. The place is open and invites to interacting. Chatting. Also, when the nearby dominican neighbors are having a party with there amazing loudspeakers it's possible to dance a bit of batacha on your jungle terrace. We did.
hi ya,just wanna say, that jurassic park is lovely place, amazing nature and relaxing and very cozy place.....thanks a lot to Dominic and Helena and family and crew for fully support...take care and wish ya all the best with plans for the future, hope see ya again, all the best...
We can't wait to return to Jurassic Park! We were only able to spend a couple of days there and it was barely enough to scratch the surface of what we could do and experience, but just enough to give us a wonderful taste of jungle life a la Jurassic Park with Dominic and Helena. They are such a warm and welcoming family. We felt so at home and could totally appreciate the vision of what they're setting out to accomplish there (which is no small feat!). It was such unique and inspiring experience, and great for our 9-year-old daughter too. We look forward to our return!
We spent 11 nights at Jurrassic Park and we had a very special time there - thanks to Dominic & Helena and their children, as well as to the great location in the middle of the jungle. It was great! We prepared our own meals in the bungalow and had the chance to explore Las Terrenas, its beautiful beaches and the villages nearby on Dominics motorbike. We had a very warm welcome when we arrived and felt home immediately, especially when Helena and Dominic sat down with us for a cup of coffee and answered all the questions we had. Dominic invited us to join him for a night out in town, we had a great time in places you would definitely not even find on your own and a big hangover the next morning :-) …a jump in the pool helped getting started again.
The pool is nice and there is a little BBQ area next to the pool which we used to grill some fresh fish that we bought from the fishermen at the beach. Dominic and Helena invited us and four other guests to come to the New Year’s Party at a friends’ house by the beach, which was lovely - we really had a good time.
The other day we went to Playa Rincon with the whole family plus some new friends, watched and cuddled the Iguanas on the way there, enjoyed the Caribbean life with fish on the beach and more.
To top it all, we also had the very special opportunity to go on a sailing trip with Dominic (and Dolphins!) for two days, staying overnight in a hidden sparkling lagoon which was an ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL and UNFORGETTABLE experience! Magic.
Anyone that visits Jurrassic Park should be aware that it is located near the jungle, so you might see a spider or a snake, a mouse or a bug, but no poisonous animals. We can recommend this place to anyone that looks for a special holiday at a fair price, no resort type all inclusive environment, not much luxury, a rather simple bungalow but with all necessary equipment, cool people, hot showers (solar heating) and great hosts. If you prefer to get in contact with local people, local lifestyle – this is the place to go.
Jurassic Park Hotel in Las Terrenas is a terrific alternative - or in my case, compliment - to the more conventional types of holidays one can take in the DR.
Here's a few reasons why:
- You're staying in the jungle, literally. The hotel is surrounded on each side by dense forest and vegetation, including swimming holes, wild-growing fruit and waterfalls. Outdoorsy types will be in heaven: your hosts will set you up with local guides for any manner jungle walkabout you choose. In this way you'll get to know the DR on a level beyond culture, witnessing, as the hotel's name suggests, the landscape much as it's been for thousands of years.
- The hotel's owners, Dom and Helena, are warm hosts and a fascinating example of cool, chatty, relatable folks who've chosen to opt out of the very rat-race you're temporarily escaping from. I found this one of the most interesting aspects of my stay - just hanging out with them and their two beautiful children, drinking wine and shooting the breeze.
- Not being outdoorsy myself, I was able to take inexpensive motorcycle taxi rides to local restaurants, bars and beaches. In fact, the trip to and from these places is in itself a wonderful way to see the local area, which is delightfully free of tourists. The drivers are also happy to stop if you want to take a photo, stop at a fruit stand, or grab a serving of BBQ chicken from that rustic local eatery.
- JPH is reasonably priced at around $35 a night + breakfast.
My vacation was really a reconnoiter: I treated the DR as the delicious buffet of options it is and tried a little of everything: Before staying at JPH I spent 3 nights at a fancy beachside hotel @ $100 a night, then 2 nights at a quaint inn in the town itself @ $35 a night. After JPH, I stayed at an all-inclusive for 2 nights, before finally settling in to a mid-range art deco hotel with room service & a pool. Of these, JPH was truly a standout experience, and one to which I'll certainly return.
Dominic and Helena are great people and their location is beautiful and rustic. We really enjoyed our time there, and it was an amazing opportunity to be able to see the stars, watch the fireflies and enjoy the natural beauty surrounding the property. We would recommend it without hesitation.
