animal lover's Joshua Tree studio

House - Entire home/apt · Paradise View Rd, Yucca Valley, CA 92284, United States

The Space

This listing is for a large studio space with high ceilings and a rock fireplace, plus a private bathroom and basic kitchenette. Mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, electric hot plate. No cable, but TV with DVD player and a selection of movies available.
Inquire for SPECIAL DEAL May 2-11 if you're willing to pet sit!

The outdoor areas are shared with two Nigerian Dwarf goats and five chickens. All are very friendly and beg at the door for handouts. The two goats are two years old, full of energy, and an endless source of amusement. They love attention and like to be petted and scratched like dogs. Just don't leave the door open - they aren't house-trained! There are several chickens -currently five hens, and no rooster. We now also have two very sweet donkey rescues. They also love people and attention.
This rental space is attached to the main house and shares one wall with an art studio, but it's still very private. It has it's own private patio with a bbq grill and desert vistas.

The location is great - only one lot down from a paved road on the border of Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley. It's a quick and easy drive into town for restaurants, shopping and the National Park (you will find that many homes out here, while secluded, take forever to get to and from!). 5.4 miles to the park visitor's center.

There's lots of joshua trees on and around the one acre property, and beautiful views of the sunset and sunrise.

If possible, I can often clear out to give guests the whole place to themselves (if they're willing to dish out some hay and chicken feed!). There's a 2nd larger shared patio that's fenced to (email hidden).

  • A quiet little getaway. We loved the goats and all the other animals around. They're all such characters! Close enough to JT, but far away enough from everything that you do get some peace and quiet.

  • My partner and I had a great stay here. The goats and burros had us cracking up every time we came and went, such personalities. Kelly was really easy to work with -- made the process really smooth. The space is great and convenient to all of the goings-on in the desert. Definitely recommended.

  • A wonderful fantastic stay! The studio is exactly as described in the listing and reviews. Kelly has created a wonderful spot. The studio is attached to the main house but they have separate entrances and are autonomous. The animals are a gregarious, hilarious bunch and they love visitors, especially if you give them attention. The goats will leave you smiling for days, and are always gunning for a photo op. The location is also great if you like convenience - not too far isolated on dirt roads, but it definitely feels like a hide-away!

  • We had a wonderful stay at Rancho Paradiso! The studio is spacious, comfortable & in a great location. But it's Kelly and the animals that make this an over-the-top experience. Kelly is warm, kind, and thoughtful. And the animals! We had such a great time with the donkeys, goats, chickens, and her little dog Bruno. Our 3-year old loved feeding & brushing them, checking for eggs, and walking around the property as they followed behind her. This isn't for everyone -- if you're looking for a fancy place to stay, you won't be happy (goats like to poop!). But if you're an animal lover looking for a funky, fun, reasonably priced, laughter-filled visit to Joshua Tree, I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

  • We had such a lovely stay at Kelly's animal retreat! The studio is super cute, clean and cozy, and very private. And the animals on the property are so sweet and adorable! The location was perfect for us; outside of town but not too far out in the boonies. Kelly gave us some fresh eggs from her chickens, and her music library was awesome. We had a wonderfully leisurely and relaxing visit, thank you Kelly for everything!!

  • kelly's place is exactly what i needed when i escaped LA for a weekend of writing: quiet, peaceful, and tastefully decorated. the animals are a real treat too, and add to the feeling that you are decidedly off the grid here. that said, there's still wifi if you need it :) kelly is a great host; communication was fast and very pleasant. will definitely be coming back here.

  • We had such a wonderful time at Kelly's place. The space is large with fun decoration, and is a very short drive to the park and the downtown Joshua Tree area. We absolutely loved the company of the goats, chickens, little dog, and the sweet donkeys! The goats were our most frequent visitors and were highly entertaining. Kelly was super helpful during our weeklong stay. We highly recommend her place and hope to be back in the future!

Artist living mostly in Joshua Tree, CA (with a little time in LA) where I have a small flock of chickens, a dog, two goats and two donkeys. So I'm not TOO far away from LA if something comes up. I've expanded out here in Yucca Valley from renting the studio attached to my home to the house next door plus one down the road. I bought this house in LA along with the home on the hill behind it in 1999, and they are like a part of the family. A tad rustic, but lots of charm. I love that I can be so close to the hustle bustle of one of the greatest cities in the US, yet still have hummingbirds on my porch and occasional raccoons or skunks in the yard. I've tried to leave, but always come back!
