Little house with veranda and fireplace in the middle of 9 terraces on a 1 hectare-hill where you can experience the true nature feeling: there is no electricity...!
Beautiful goatpath to river in village Avo on 20 minutes walk distance.
The 200 year old shed is just renovated with stones from the land. It is situated 400 meter up in the mountains, 9 terraces with olive trees, fruit trees, and grapes. Fresh drinking water from the mountains is permanently dripping in big granite reservoirs. Those are situated on 2 different places on the land which can be used as bathrooms. There is even a small cave.
Closeby you'll find the ecological farm of Helder & Mariana, where you can buy vegetables, wine (ask for the beautiful cognac) and olive oil.
The walk to the little village is about 20 minutes over a little goat-path. Down there is a river with waterfalls and big stones to jump from till 13 meter high. Very cold water so good for swimming in the summer.
They have 2 little supermarkets, a farmacy, a bank and some little café's.
The neighbourhood is really quiet and you can make several walks to big views from the quinta.
It is situated between Porto and Lisboa, 60 km east from Coimbra.
Around 3 hours from Porto and 4 from Lisboa. The bustrip is the best and costs only 17 euro.
Internet is only available down in the village.
In the postoffice and in café Miradouro
Interaction with Guests
There are lots of private places so there is no need to interact with me and my son of 10 years old but it is always possible of course, if we are there (which is only during schoolholidays) It would be great if you have a child the same age. We can make dinner together or I can cook for you.
A friend who lives permanently in Avo, will be your host during the time of the year that I am not around. I can give you her tel nr as soon as you made your booking.
The area is famous for big walks and biking trips. Close by there are beautiful antique villages and the highest mountain of Portugal in the Sierra Estrella.
Busses pass the nearest villages Avo, Pomares and Aldeia das Des several times a day. The closest busstop is half an hour walk from the quinta.

Like Rick we stayed at Marion's Yurt (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/610300) and it was a great retreat experience. Besides the fact that Marion is a great host, the place is a wonder.
Else has made arrangements with her friend and neighbor Marion to use her beautiful Yurt higher up the hill. We 100% recommend the Yurt after finding Else's place was not ready. Thanks Else for looking after us. We will rate the Yurt here and not Else's barn.

Since 20 years I live in this nice 'student house' which happened to be right above one of the most famous discotheques in Amsterdam in the 70 ties. Even Mick Jagger and David Bowie have been here!
Now its one of the most quietest places, which I appreciate. But if you can play piano you're very welcome because we have one.
Movies Louis Malle, Isabelle Huppert
Music Latifa Raafat and Bach
Absolutely Fabulous and travelling with my son to dangerous places without comfort but most of all... Nature!
And of course I like to cook and have dinner with strange people like you...
