Mary and Eamon were great hosts. The cottage is on a beautiful property next to a river. It was very comfortable and we cooked most of our meals there. On the property were several small, very friendly dogs, a horse, and several hens. Mary even gave us fresh eggs upon our arrival. She also gave us great suggestions about places to go. But the cottage was so peaceful and quiet and comfortable, we enjoyed just hanging out there as well. We are hoping to go back in the near future. Linda and Steve
We really lived this Abnb spot. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. If you ask they will tell you a back way up croagh Patrick. The house was warm and inviting, Mary had a fire going for us every day when we returned from our adventures. A really great location and perfect for the two of us.
We found ourselves in a beautiful location just outside Westport. The cottage is nice and cosy and was just the right size for us, with a beautiful walk by the river for us and our dog.
On the second night our hosts cooked us a beautiful and much appreciated meal.
Mary and Eamon were perfect hosts. They instantly made us feel welcome by giving us a full tour of the grounds and the house. The fire was even already lit before we arrived.
They provided free use of their brand new bikes and left us bread, milk, butter and fresh eggs from their hens.
We had an amazingly relaxed break whilst staying here, I'd highly recommend it for anyone who wants to get away from it all (but still wants to be within cycling distance from a pub! :)
We had a lovely stay in Riverside Cottage over a rainy Bank Holiday weekend. As Dubliners, we especially enjoyed the true get-AWAY this location provided. Tucked away in a beautiful quiet landscape, yet only a taxi fare from Westport, we had the best of both. Driving and walking nearby provided peaceful encounters with nature and breathtaking views of Mayo beauty spots. Mary & Eamonn provided thorough directions to the cottage, and upon arrival, helpful practical instructions along with a cheery welcome. The wood-burning stove was a challenge for us Urbanites, so we were glad we brought a few warmer items to cosy up in. (It didn't help that the weather was against us!) The cottage was well equipped and we loved the hot shower and big cosy bed. Mary & Eamonn were approachable and helpful, providing advice, taxi numbers, and extra bits we requested for our self-catering needs. We would recommend this spot for anyone looking for a rustic retreat with a difference.
We spend a wonderful three days here and loved every minute. Mary and Eamonn were very welcoming and informative about the area. The cottage was perfectly fitted out with all one could need. The area was beautiful, quiet and relaxing, a perfect place for a little getaway. Also....the most comfy bed in the world!
Mary made us feel incredibly at home - a welcome pack of brown bread, milk and butter in fridge, as well as fresh eggs from the cohort of hens roaming-free! Never mind the crackling fire and the heating electric blanket awaiting our arrival. There is also a trio of very friendly and easy-going dogs who are eager to make friends.
The cottage is beautifully located down a rural country lane adjacent to a wood and river, but benefits from a very short jaunt to Westport town or Croagh Patrick - whatever takes your fancy!
It's perfect for a couple looking to get away from it all and explore the outdoors - we hiked croagh patrick, kayaked clew bay, cycled the greenway, had a dip on Keem Beach on Achill - all of which are really close by... We cooked in and read our books fireside on some evenings but also tried out the local food in Westport and the local pub - all to be recommended.
This cottage offers an oasis with some nice trimmings to make you feel rested, relaxed and at home - enjoy!
About the Host, Mary
I am a musician, I'm from Belfast and I moved to the West of Ireland recently. I love my music and love performing at various functions and concerts.
I love the outdoor life which includes attempts at running every morning through the beautiful local woodlands here. Also short rows on the nearby river, trampolining, sailing and swimming in the sea with my two lovely girls. I sought the quiet life after a hectic city lifestyle and found this dream home.
This location is a perfect silent and friendly place to travel from and explore all outdoor pursuits.
