Mary made us feel incredibly at home - a welcome pack of brown bread, milk and butter in fridge, as well as fresh eggs from the cohort of hens roaming-free! Never mind the crackling fire and the heating electric blanket awaiting our arrival. There is also a trio of very friendly and easy-going dogs who are eager to make friends.
The cottage is beautifully located down a rural country lane adjacent to a wood and river, but benefits from a very short jaunt to Westport town or Croagh Patrick - whatever takes your fancy!
It's perfect for a couple looking to get away from it all and explore the outdoors - we hiked croagh patrick, kayaked clew bay, cycled the greenway, had a dip on Keem Beach on Achill - all of which are really close by... We cooked in and read our books fireside on some evenings but also tried out the local food in Westport and the local pub - all to be recommended.
This cottage offers an oasis with some nice trimmings to make you feel rested, relaxed and at home - enjoy!
We had a very nice stay at Riverside Cottage and were welcomed and shown around by Mary; welcomed by the 3 dogs and then greeted by 3 horses and the chickens. We were very self-contained and that suited us well.
The location was good for a bit of quiet and for being in the midst of off the beaten track countryside. It was also a good base for touring or just not going too far away once you found a nice beach or haven.
A very nice way to experience County Mayo.
Found the selection of hotels in Westport to be be overpriced & unimaginative so we decided on this venue instead. Glad to say that we had a wonderful weekend at this beautiful cottage. It is situated approx 10 minutes drive / 40 minutes walk / 8 euro taxi fare from Westport so its perfect for anyone who wants to combine peace, character & comfort with the option of enjoying the town at the same time. We found our hosts Eamonn & Mary to be very pleasant & helpful and to have literally thought of everything with regard to making our stay even more enjoyable. For example, the fire was lit so that the cottage would be warm upon our arrival, there was breakfast (farm fresh eggs, bread, butter, milk, tea, coffee, chocolate!) laid out for us in case we needed feeding the next day and there was a mountain of information, suggestions etc. on the area made available so that we would be able to make the most of our stay. Also, there was good strenght, free Wifi - always a bonus when staying in an unfamiliar town. This is my 2nd Air BnB experience & I can honestly say that, based on my experiences so far, I won't be using a hotel again in a hurry. Fantastic value for money too!
We were given a very warm welcome by Mary. She was very generous leaving breakfast in the fridge and a wee choccy surprise on the bed.
The cottage is small but fine for two people. Mary showed us around her wonderful smallholding - riverside walk, space for us in the garden and the hens (we loved the eggs!).
This part of Ireland is absolutely beautiful, whether you want a short walk from the cottage, or further afield (go to Achille Island !!!)
I was even loaned the use of a cello for the week ! ( I am a cellist)
The wood burner lit easily, and also we thought the electric blanket on the bed wasn't necessary IT WAS LUSH !
The bed takes up most of the bedroom, so you need to leap over your partner if you're on the 'inside'. I missed my bath a little too....but everything was fine really.
This is a super place. Mary and Eamonn are really friendly hosts and couldn't have been more helpful. The bed is possibly one of the comfiest I've ever slept in, the cottage was spotless and the kitchen had everything you could ask for. Including eggs from the chickens! Can't recommend this to you enough. Book it now, before someone else does! Orla
Es war super. Besonders hat mir Coco (einer von 3 Hunden) gefallen. Es war sehr gemütlich und ruhig. Es hat uns sehr gefallen.
Dear Mary and Eamon and girls,
We had a wonderful holiday in beautiful Westport.
The cottage was perfect, the dogs were adorable and the ponies and the acres to walk.
Everything was thought of to make our stay comfortable including fresh eggs.
Thank you all and hope to meet again

I am a musician, I'm from Belfast and I moved to the West of Ireland recently. I love my music and love performing at various functions and concerts.
I love the outdoor life which includes attempts at running every morning through the beautiful local woodlands here. Also short rows on the nearby river, trampolining, sailing and swimming in the sea with my two lovely girls. I sought the quiet life after a hectic city lifestyle and found this dream home.
This location is a perfect silent and friendly place to travel from and explore all outdoor pursuits.
