About This Listing
You are welcome in my comfortable, quiet, light apartment with a beautiful parcview!
***Two children under 12 can stay for free (no additional fee for 3rd or 4th person that is under 12)***
In my apartment are two bedrooms. One bedroom has a double bed (1,40cm) and a smaller bedroom has two single beds (next to each other).
The apartment is on the second floor. It has a white wooden floor, and is sunny and light. Besides the two bedrooms it has a spacious kitchen, a small bathroom with a bath & shower and a spacious living room.
The living room looks out on the Erasmusparc. The master-bedroom and kitchen both give entry to the sunny balcony on the south-west side (sun between noon and 8 o'clock in the evening) and neighbors quiet inner- gardens. The apartment is very quiet and perfect for resting out after an active day of sightseeing. It is great to have dinner or a glass of wine at the kitchen table with the doors to the balcony wide open, in the late afternoon / early evening. On very warm days, the apartment and especially the living room is always pleasantly cool.
The kitchen has all the equipment such as a big oven, a microwave and a dishwasher. In the living room there is a TV and WIFI can be used.
The apartment is situated in the west of Amsterdam. By bike it is between 5 and 10 minutes to the trendy Jordan-district. There are several trams and buses that bring you within 10 minutes to the city center. For example: bus 21 to Central Station, bus 15 to trainstation Sloterdijk that connects directly with Schiphol airport, tram 14 to Dam square, Rembrandplein or Artis Zoo and tram 7 to Leidseplein. There are two direct comfortable buses (Connexxion nr. 80 & 82) to Haarlem, the beach and a beautiful nature reserve called the 'Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen' that both ride frequently (resp. 4x & 2x p.h.). If you wish to make one or more trips to the beach, you are at the best side of A'dam!
Amsterdam west is an upcoming neighborhood. There are some trendy and cosy café's and lunchplaces in the area. The parc in front of the house has a cafe with good coffee and one of the best terraces of Amsterdam and is great for having a run, a picknick or for letting the children play (it has a playground with a sandpit).
On short walking-distance there are several shops for the daily groceries such as three supermarkets, a biological grocery and a quality bakery. On the first morning of your stay a breakfast will be provided.
The architecture in this area of West is famous for its Amsterdam School style buildings. Mercatorplein, designed by Berlage, is on less than 5 minutes walking distance and in between the apartment and Mercatorplein, the Jerusalem church by F.B. Jantzen, with beautiful stained glass is in the style of Amsterdam School with influences of Frank Lloyd Wright. The building in which the apartment itself is situated is also built in that time (around 1930) and has the typical brown bicks and stained glass (within the apartment). The entrance of the building and the two stairs that lead to the apartment have comfortable clean carpet.
The apartment is close to Schiphol airport and easily reached by car as well. From Schiphol you can take a train to Amsterdam Sloterdijk station (7 minutes) and from there bus 15 (5 minutes). The ring-road around Amsterdam is 3 minutes away and there's a cheap longstay parking-lot (parc & ride) on 5 minutes walking-distance from the house.
*** The fifth guest can choose between a camping bed or a comfortable couch that can be used as a bed for one adult or child. Besides that, on special request, a bed for a small child can be provided.
First of all enjoy the apartment!
I try to care about the environment as much as I can, by using ecological cleaning producs and by being sparse with water and energy. I would be happy if you could respect that too. Please turn the heating on 17 degrees or lower when you leave the house or when you go to sleep. Please use the paper bin for paper and keep glass separate for the glass container.
Amsterdam and especially this neighborhood is a very safe city, but just beware of pickpockets in the crowded and touristic area's in the city centre.
Please always lock the balcony-doors when you leave the house & lock the door of the apartment (upstairs) with both of the keys. The door downstairs does not have to be locked, but just make sure it is always closed behind you.
If you like to smoke, you are free to do so at the balcony.
Thanks a lot!
We (5 women) stayed at Julias apartment over New Years and we had a good time. The apartment was nice but a little small for 5 grown ups. The couch was anything but comfortable, but the beds were ok. It was clean, but we still cleaned all the dishes again before we used them because they were still a little dirty. The neighborhood was nice and quiet and we were glad to be away from all the crazy "fireworks" on new years eve. Marlies was very nice and showed us around the apartment. Parking was a little difficult, since the P+R near by was full and parking in front of the house would have been very expensive. Overall we had a good time and enjoyed staying at Julias apartment.
The apparent was nice and comfortable , but need some maintenance and really good cleaning. There is some power sockets missing and the electricity cables are covered with masking tape , the bed in children bedroom was partly broken , the apartment was cleaned for our arrivals , but there was still some dirt and dust behind the sofas , under the beds ect. In the bathroom cabinet some cosmetics and toothbrushes ?? Well we always rent houses on our holiday and first time we seen someone stuff in the bathroom , even if owners were living in the place time to time their stuff should be lock out of sight of people renting. Overall the experience was not bad but not great either. The area is nice and quiet , some shops around and with good connection to the city centre. After some improvements this would be a nice place to stay.
Appartement très agréable, au calme, proche du centre ville... Lieu où l'on se sent bien, une adresse à garder!!!
We found the flat in good condition, and were shown around by Julias neighbor Marlies who was really helpful and helped us with any problems (the only one being the oven not working at first - but easily solved in the end). The flat is in a great location in terms of where we needed to get to in the city / and access to the city center. So easy to get to the trams/bus services. But also near a nice park, and some good restaurants and bars - in a safe and easy going part of the city. Overall we were really happy with the flat and had a great time. Would definitely recommend Julia's place for anyone looking to stay in Amsterdam.
Julias neighbour Marlies gave me a very warm welcome and I immediately felt at home in the apartment. Julia was so kind to provide us with delicious food for our breakfast, thanks! The apartment was perfect for our stay and is easily reachable from the city centre! The view over the park in front of the living room is just gorgeous, especially in autumn afternoon sunlight :-)
About the Host, Julia
I am a mom of two super cute boys of resp. one and four years old. Me and my boys used to live in the apartment, but we moved out not long ago to a place nearby. We left a babybed and some toys in the apartment for our little guests.
Till recently I worked at the Law faculty of the University of Amsterdam. I was teaching Philosophy of Law and wrote a thesis in the field of social philosophy.
I love travelling and living abroad. (For example, I studied in New York City twice and did an internship in Cairo Egypt.) However, Amsterdam is still my favorite city of the world and if you stay in my place, I can give you tips about my city and you can use my travel guide (book) of A'dam (on my airbnb page).
I love cooking and eating with friends and I think my house is a cosy and comfortable place and has a beautiful view on the parc!
What inspires me is "social entrepreneurship" by which I mean that I like to create win win win situations with my airbnb, in stead of just making money to support my family. I like to offer a comfortable yet affordable place to stay for young families or other people who do not want to spend a lot of money on a rather impersonal hotel. Within my area (the west of Amsterdam) you can experience the real Amsterdam, the area where the "Amsterdammers" live and hang-out.
Finally, I like to introduce you to Marlies. Because my boys still need a lot of care, my neighbor Marlies helps me with checking you in. Now a mother of two beautiful daughters, in the past she worked in tourism and she knows Amsterdam and our neighborhood better than anyone.
I hope you have a great time in Amsterdam!
This recently opened super hip spot has yummy pizza's (try one with truffel oil)! Just downstairs at the corner, you can take-away or just sit on one of their benches. Open from Wed to Sun.
Take a canal boat tour! This company near the Rokin is friendly and the university neighborhood behind it is worthwile a visit too. Café "De Jaren" is very nice with a terrace on the waterside.
Brood sells 'brood', which means 'bread'. Definately the best bread of the neighborhood! Open from 8 till 18, closed on Sunday. One can eat & drink coffee overthere too.
Skip the square and the market upstairs. Underneath there are two good supermarkets: Albert Heijn & Vomar. Albert Heijn is open from 8 till 22 h (20 h on Sunday). Just go around the corner at KFC.
Indoor and outdoor swimmingpool around the corner!
This is the best kept secret of A'dam just 5 min walk from the house! Nice affordable food or just for coffee/drinks on the terrace (that offers a great view on a beautiful church from de 1930's).
@ Saturdays & Sundays this nearby theatre offers Turkish breakfast. One gets a big selection of nice little snacks all served with Turkish tea and Turkish bread.
This bar on walking distance is trendy, has a great interior and a nice crowd. Perfect for drinking a beer, a wine or something stronger, but cosy enough for dinner too.
Part of the Dutch Cuisine is Indonesian food. This simple place around the corner offers great food! Open from 16.00 to 22.00 h exc. Monday.
Great bar at the Mercatorplein (5 min walk from the house). It is trendy for having a drink at night and it has a nice terrace for coffee during the day too.
Another new trendy spot in my neighborhood for drinks in the night, food in the evening and also open during daytime for sandwiches or coffee.
Nice deli in West for coffee, cakes and (Italian) food.
Big indoor and outdoor swimmingpool with 50 m. pool and pools for kids. Just 5 minutes by tram 7 or 14 from "Bos & Lommerplein" to final stop.
As a former workersarea Jordaan district is now one of the trendiest area's of A'dam. Check out Noordermarkt, Westerstraat and the little side streets like 1e Anjeliersdwarsstr, 1e Eglantiersdwarsstr.
This is one of my favorite coffeeplaces in West. Not a budget place, but is serves definately good coffee in a retro admosphere. There are more Koffie Salons in A'dam.
Popular place in Jordan district that serves Italian stuff like good coffee and very good pizza's.
Runstraat, Huidenstraat, Bersenstraat, Wolvenstraat. etc. Go to the 9 little streets for some special shops, like designer & vintage clothes. These streets host some nice bars and restaurants too.
People say that it serves the best coffee of A'dam.
In the middle of Jordan district, this is the place to be for Dutch apple pie! During the weekends it can be packed!
Noordermarkt offers a biological market at Saturdays & clothes & second hand stuff at Mondays. Some real cosy cafés are situated around it and it is smack in Jordan district. For the real A'dam feel!
Hema is a fantastic Dutch chain. They sell clothes, kitchen equipment, food, toys for kids and many other things, all from their own brand. Location(website hidden)spx
Flea market that used to be the hangout spot for the punk & squatterscene in the 70 & 80's.
Most popular and biggest market of A'dam, with food, clothes and many other special shops in one of the most popular area's of A'dam ("de Pijp").
Beautiful botanical garden in nice area ("Plantage") near Artis Zoo. It has a great terrace and "orangerie" for coffee or lunch too (but food is a bit expensive). Summer: Sunday 16 - 19 h live music.
Buzzing science museum near central station. Great for kids and adults of all ages. It is housed in a special building in the shape of a ship and on top of it is a terrace & water-playground for kids.
Although there are plenty of Thai restaurants nearer-by, this place makes worthwhile the trip all the way to the east of A'dam. Just take tram 7. Affordable great food & friendly service.
