Private entrance, very handy for late arrive. We'll equipped kitchen and easy groceries shopping, fishmonger 100 m away, farmers market and bakery plus a wonderful ice cream bar. You will like our friendly neighborhood; it is very liveable. Welcome!
The local bus stops in front of our home. It takes you down town in 5 min. We are proud owners of the most beautiful bus stop in Reykjavík:-)
Centrally located. Bus stop in front of the house. As our guests, you also have access to bikes for all of you. Even a tandem and a bob! Reykjavik is a wonderful city to discover by bike. We have a biking map and will help you around. We also have tools for those of you who need to fix your own bikes - as Dr. Bike is "living" in the house as well.
When you arrive there will always be fresh bread, juice, milk, coffee, tea, cheese and butter. So the first thing for you is just to sit down, make yourself a cup of coffee, a slice of bread and relax!
The apartment is in the basement of our home, 47 square meters. You have a private entrance, your own bathroom with a shower, a kitchen, a sleeping room where 2 can sleep and a living room with a studio couch sleeping 2. For the 5th and 6th guest, there is a small extra sleeping room with a bed, 120x200. There are linen and towels for everyone.
There is free Wi-Fi.
A wonderful thing to do your first evening here is to go the pool! Our home is located only 500 m from the biggest public Swimming pool in Iceland - Laugardalslaug. There is also the main camping in Reykjavik, the Botanic garden and amusement for the whole family with Icelandic animals and farmings - Fjolskyldu- og husdyragardurinn.
The main sport area in Reykjavik is in the same area as well.
Some of Reykjavik´s main hotels are in the neighborhood so we are well connected with the fly bus and there are lots of restaurants, local shops, cinema, banks and other service all around us.
With the bike it will take you 6 min to be downtown and you will bike this wonderful seaside promenade with scenic view of the sunset and the mountains - it will take you to Harpa - the new concert hall in Reykjavik, or - in the other direction - to Laugarnestangi, a uniquely quiet spot by the sea.
The bus stops right in front of our house, downtown Reykjavik is a 6-min. ride.
We live on the upper floor, so if there is anything you need - we will be there:-) We speak English, German, Dutch, Swedish, some words in French and Danish.
You are very welcome to our house. You will enjoy it:-)
You have your own entrance, your own apartment with well equipped kitchen, two rooms and bathroom with shower. A laundry room with washing machine, free wifi and an extra huge fridge!
Interaction with Guests
We live upstairs in the house and we will welcome you when you arrive.
The local public pool is a "must do" for visitors. It is only 500 m away from our house. It opens at 6.30 am and close at 22 pm every day of the year. Even in a hard snow storm, you can be in the hot pool, outdoor, - it is a bit like magic.
There are small grocery stores all around us, fishmonger, bakery, ice cream bar, shoemaker etc.
And the wonderful Laugardalur, Pool valley, with the Family amusement park, Botanic garden and Skatehall.
Great cycling paths all over and the cost line in our backyard. Reykjavik - as good as it gets.
Local bus number 12 stops in front of our house and takes you downtown with 5 stops from here. The flight bus stops at Cabin hotel, 150 m away from us. Very handy.
Other Things to Note
Cycling in Reykjavik is great. We have great path system and cycling on the sidewalk is permitted, bikes are guests on the sidewalk - so please be gentle to pedestrians. Of course you can ride on the street as well, bikes do belong to the street. Helmets mandatory is for 14 and younger. We do have helmets for everyone.
Please - don´t smoke in the house. We do have a lovely Icelandic Sheepdog - it will always bark when you come to the house. But he is very family friendly. Our backyard is very quiet and if you want to master your cooking on the barbecue outdoor - you are welcome. It is a family friendly area. Also suitable for those who are doing sports in the area of Laugardalur. It is easy for 4 people to share the apartment. 2 in real beds in the bedroom and 2 sharing the studio couch in the living room.
If you are booking the apartment for 6 guests, there is a small extra room with a bed 120x200 cm. But it will mean very narrow space for everyone. The kitchen will become very crowd and the living room as well. But with a good family and friends, it is possible for a shorter stay.
Sesselja was wonderful. Her home is central and has all the amenities needed to cook and relax (which is great when visiting Reykjavik in the winter). She gave us lots of very helpful advice about what to visit, where to swim and how to stay safe on the roads in Icelandic weather.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who want to stay somewhere homely and out of the main tourist traps. We were comfortable and well looked after.
Thank you! We had a great stay and look forwards to visiting Iceland again.
We really enjoyed our stay and Sesselja made us feel very welcome! It was a great space for 4 people. The house is close to downtown (20 minute walking distance or a short ride with the bus) and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Reykjavik. We hope to be back soon!
Sesselja was a great host! I recently travelled to Reykjavik with 3 friends and we had a lovely stay here. She had bread, coffee, and juice waiting for us when we arrived; and she was very accommodating by allowing us to check in early as we had an early arrival. We were warmly welcomed by Sesselja and her dog, Snati. Per Sesselja's recommendation, we visited the great outdoor pool and a great vegetarian restaurant, both very close to the house. It was a great location; near to the bus stop and hotel pick up for our excursions. We had an amazing stay here! Definitely would stay here again! The strong wifi was a definite plus. Would recommend this place to stay!
My girlfriend and I felt very welcomed in Sessy's cozy basement. We stayed in Sessy's home for 7 days and we felt that the location of her home was in prime location to all the festivities in Reykjavik as well as a great location for viewing the northern lights. Per Sessy's recommendation, we visited the local fish market and bought and cooked some very tasty icelandic fish. We also went to the local spa and had a relaxing time sitting in the hot geothermal spa under the cold snowy night. We had an amazing time and can't wait to come back to Iceland again. (Snati is the most beautiful dog we've ever seen). Definitely recommend this place!!!
We decided to add a few days in Reykjavik to our Paris vacation and stayed comfortably in Sesselja's basement apartment. Had the weather improved I would have loved to ride bikes but, snow in the "off season" happens! We kind of got in late and let ourselves in but, did meet Sesselja and her adorable dog Snati. This house is in a great neighborhood in walking distance to an amazing geo-thermal pool and even vegetarian restaurants! We'd love to come back in spring or summer...
Really helpful host, and a great apartment. Close to the centre and the bikes are a great bonus. Would definetely stay here again and really recommend this stay.
Sesselja was a lovely host and this space was just wonderful! I recently traveled to Reykjavik with several friends and we stayed in this spot. Seeselja was extremely accommodating; she left bread, cheese, butter and juice to welcome us and allowed us to check in early as we had an early flight and no one was in the space the night before. She also shared converters for our electronics and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. The space was cozy, located a short bus ride from the city center, and the use of bikes was a terrific perk.
