♥FLAT STYLE ♥
You will love the natural light that floods this tiny apartment. Nothing feels better than opening the windows and watch the typical Parisian roof, whatever the weather is.
We have created a cozy, clean space inspired by a vintage style emphasized with industrial touches.
We have specially decorated it with a mix of old-fashioned furniture and some exotic objects coming from our trips around the world: Polynesian tiki in bathroom, fabrics and furniture from India, painting from Vietnam, potteries from Africa. This mixed up with our passion for classic design as Eames and Baumann Art deco chairs. All this, completed with the new modern pieces from Swedish brand that you know.
Our Style: eclectic, vintage, industrial
Inspiration: Our travels, friends, bohemian Parisian style
Favourite element: the marble table with legs made in cast iron, typical of the parisien bistrots.
♥THE NEIGHBORHOOD ♥
The flat is located near the waterway's iron footbridges and lock immortalized in the famous movie "Hotel du Nord", by Marcel Carné (1938) and in romantic wanderings of Amelie Poulain.
The canal was built in Napoleon III period to transport materials from quarries in the north to the Seine and was completed in 1825. Extending over 4,5 km of which two are underground, the canal has remained authentic and it flows across an area punctuated with locks, swing bridges, venetian-style footbridges, some art deco buildings, and lined with chestnut trees. Throughout the day, barges or pleasure boats past along the greenish water.
Here you will find also the remarkable 17th-century Hôpital St-Louis that was founded in 1607 by Henri IV to care for the victims of the plague.
Nowadays, living around Canal offer a different approach to discover Paris.
Here artists, young creative workers and families seduced by the area's lazy charm have begun to settle in to the district, setting up small cafes, bars, boutiques, ateliers and lofts. At lunchtime, photographers, art directors, graphic designers and families wander around, especially in the weekend.
Actually, the atmosphere in the weekend is very unique because the banks are pedestrian therefore the walkers can stroll around, sporty people can run or even fish, lazy people just stay to watch acrobats, street artist and musician performing all around.
In summer and springtime the sun sets late over Paris, even at 10 p.m. You may sit on the stone banks of the Canal St.-Marti, and spend a warm evening eating saucisson and baguette and drinking French wine.
In winter, you will spend your end-afternoon and evening drinking and eating French specialities at several cafés, restaurants and brasseries, open every day, including Sunday.
The area is rich of famous place to eat and drink, as the bakery DU PAIN ET DES IDEES, that won the price of the best PARISIEN baker in 2008; or le VERRE VOLE, one of the best wine cellar of Paris, or the unique VOY ALIMENTO a reference in a vegan cuisine, or LE CAMBOGE, the ultimate Cambodian restaurant ever.
Other amenities include: supermarket 50 m, bakery and pharmacy in front
Thank you Elena & Olivier! Perfect location. Was great to be away from the main tourist trails. So many fantastic bars and restaurants at your doorstep. Was great to just take a bottle of vino over to the canal and sit to enjoy the atmosphere. Would definitely return :-)
Location was very close to Metro and shops. Quiet location as not near tourist hub. Very comfortable apartment on third level which we were happy with. Stairs not a problem for us. Oliver met us and assisted us up with our luggage and showed us around the apartment. They live next door so if any issues arose they were close by. Comfy beds and well presented apartment.
Elena and Olivier were correct that we would enjoy Canal St. Martin as much as we have enjoyed the Marais over many years. This bijou apartment is located on Rue des Vinaigriers which has many small restaurants. We liked restaurant de Bourgogne. In the evening young people would picnic on the banks of the canal. The area was multi-ethnic which we liked. This is somewhere we would come back to and our hosts who lived next door could not have been nicer- allowing us to leave our luggage in their apartment while we squeezed an extra day in Paris before our flight.
It's very good cosy place in center of Paris in an old house. Really "parisian" place. The metro station Jacques Bonsergent is 5 minutes far from house. Good location for getting quickly to city center for sightseeing and coming back home in the evening. A lot of cafe, brasseries, bistro, small restaurants and also Carrefour grocery shop in this location near Saint-Martin canal. Anyway place is quiet and nothing disturbed us in the nights.
This cozy apartment was everything we were hoping for. It was easily accessed from the metro, in a wonderful and interesting neighborhood, it was clean, the beds comfortable and provided us with the ability to go out or cook meals in. The tub, wi-fi and the washing machine were a real plus. Elena and Olivier were friendly, available and very interested in helping us if we needed anything during our stay with them.
Our family of four enjoyed a very pleasant stay in this apartment. It was exactly as described and very quiet at night- which is important to us. We would not hesitate recommending this apartment --as well as the fabulous Liberte bakery across the street for fresh pastries each morning!
We had a nice stay at Elena & Oliver's apartment. There is an amazing Patisserie and plenty of cute, trendy restaurants and cafes very near by. Great location.
Great place! Elena and Olivier were both extremely helpful and understanding hosts. The apartment has everything you need for even an extended stay in Paris, including comfortable bed!
The apartment is located in the 10th arrondissement in a safe, quiet but interesting neighborhood. Lots of nice shops, a great boulangerie, well-stocked market, and excellent restaurants are nearby.
You have convenient access to the metro to get you speedily to key tourist spots and, major train stations are within walking distance. Don't miss a walk along the Canal Saint Martin. Even in February it was delightful.
If you want a real and enjoyable experience of Paris this location is perfect!
