From the second Elaine personally welcomed my fianceé and I to her amazing Hideaway listing and showed us around, we knew we were somewhere special. The Marsh Place Hideaway is absolutely perfect, and the views are to die for. Knowing that every evening we would come home to peace, quiet, friendly neighbors, and this amazing view made every day a little more relaxing. We took Elaine up on her recommendation to go to the Washout (a fun surf spot worth checking out in addition to the main beaches) and loved it. The listing itself is also a very easy drive to downtown Charleston, for those traveling to and from. It was our first time in the Holy City and certainly won't be our last.
Elaine's communication was prompt and welcoming from before I made the reservation until our departure. The pictures accurately describe the beautiful environment, and Elaine as was stated in all of the reviews, is a great host. Her guidebook gives information and she was available by phone or text. Even though we were only there 2 days, she checked in to see if we had any questions or needed anything. She met us with a warm welcome when we arrived, showed us around, and answered whatever questions we had. The place is lovely. It is a few miles from t e beach is a quiet environment. If you want a get away with a beautiful view and a variety of birds, this place is for you.
Elaine was the perfect host. She explained everything completely on our arrival, offering to assist with directions, recommendations, and answered all our questions. She checked in with us via text every few days to make sure we were getting what we needed and had no concerns. The hideaway was perfectly clean and well-organized and felt like a perfect place to spend a whole week. There's not a single thing I would change.
Beautiful place for our honeymoon! It was a perfect place to both be 'touristy,' and to just hang around. We loved it!
If you stay at Marsh Place & don't absolutely love it you're crazy! Lol! We came to Charleston to elope, but staying at Marsh Place made this a truly memorable vacation. Elaine was a wonderful & welcoming host. She showed us the crab trap we could use & we crabbed off the dock a few times. It's so easy & so much fun. I highly recommend trying it. We complimented our crab dinner with shrimp from Crosby's. The price is great ($14/lb for large/jumbo-buy your bait for the crab trap there too). If you're interested in some AYCE snow crab legs make the drive up to the Crab Shack in Coosaw Creek. It's about 30mins, but on Thursday nights it's AYCE for $34.99. We also ate at Locklear's on the Pier which was ok & not terribly overpriced. You MUST have breakfast at Lost Dog Cafe at least once (try to go for brunch during the week & skip the crowd). The portions are large enough to share. We also ate at Poogan's Porch downtown. They have amazing shrimp & grits and the short rib sandwich was great! FYI, when visiting downtown if you have a handicapped plaqcard you can park in the public city garages for free. We parked at the courthouse garage & the attendent let us know. ;-) Also, checked out the Angel Oak Tree. It's only about 15 mins away & really beautiful...best part is it's free! But the park closes at 5:00p so check your times. Another fun activity & a lil ways down from the Angel Oak is the Firefly distillery & winery. This is where they make their famous Sweet Tea Vodka & several other products. It's a small distillery & they don't give tours of the actual process, but it's a neat property & fun for tasting! For $6 you get six samples & get to keep your shot glass. While all the tourist activities are fun & enjoyable, if you enjoy the outdoors at all, you have to rent kayaks from Folly Beach Adventures & kayak the marsh. Make sure you pay attention to the high & low tide times... but most importantly check the winds for the day! We didn't & 20mph winds don't make for good kayaking! Lol! We were luck enough to try again before we left. If you're not very experienced I recommend the tandem option. Otherwise, enjoy the peace & relaxation that Marsh place provides! We can't wait to come back! Hope you love it as much as we did! It truly feels like home away from home! :-)
Elaine's place is amazing and she is a fantastic host. Upon our arrival she greeted us at the house w/ southern sweet tea and showed us around the property, which is gorgeous. The house itself is beautifully decorated and has everything you would need for either a long or short stay, very cozy. Its obvious Elaine takes pride in the beautiful place she's put together and she went out of her way to make us feel welcome. She pointed us in the right direction as to local bars / restaurant / beaches. I'd highly recommend staying at her house if you're ever in the Charleston area!
Amazing experience! Everything was beautiful and perfect exactly as described. Elaine was a magnificent host. Would recommend to everyone I know! Cozy setting and perfect location!

About the Host, Elaine
I used to rent the loft here when I was a student at College of Charleston. I chose it because it was on the water, and it took me just 13 minutes to be in class.
I loved to watch the sunrise from the dock and the moon melt into the water. I had a thriving summer garden and loved to gather figs. With Autumn, came endless pecans!
Since then, things have changed, and the owners have asked me to manage the property. I love the spacious new dock, the breezy new porch and the fresh new look for the loft!
But what brings me back is what brought me here from the start - the living, breathing marsh and the wealth of beauty that abounds - the pace of the tides, the watercolor sunsets, racing fish, and dolphins at play. Endless hours of sunshine on the dock and gatherings with family and friends.
Now, I offer this spot to you, to share it as I've loved it, with all its natural beauty. Come make your own memories in this sweet place that feels just like home.
