Interaction with guests

My husband, Steve and I are a cool, professional couple who live in the other part of the house periodically during the year as our second home. We also share that space with other vacationing guests when we travel (which is frequently). Steve is from Scotland and Jen is a Montana native. We also live in Los Angeles part of the year for work but we like to get away to Scouts Forest as our retreat, too! We are seasoned world travelers who know what it means to stay in a new place, so we do our best to make our guests feel at home.

The neighborhood

An ideal private, nature retreat for those wanting to experience the beauty of Montana. Any season is extraordinary to visit! From cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing trails nearby (or Glacier National Park), to some of the best downhill skiing just a short drive away at Whitefish Mountain Resort, winter fun awaits. For any season, if nature is your thing, the retreat's secluded alpine wilderness location provides plenty of opportunities to see winter wildlife like deer, elk, and birds right outside your door. If you want to be away from the crowds in town and on 'the mountain', yet you don't want to be too far out to enjoy the hustle and bustle when you want to, then this is the place for you. It truly is the best of both worlds - peaceful and serene when you want to take time out and curl up with good book and hot drink (or create your own novel!), or fun and lively when you want to take a jaunt into town.

Nearby attractions:
Skiing or snowboarding at big mountain is a short hour drive away. With an average snowfall of 300 inches, vertical drop of 2350 ft, and 3 high-speed quads, this great American ski town makes for an amazing Montana destination.
Glacier National Park is considered the “Crown of the Continent Ecosystem,” with hundreds of species of animals and from glacier fields to prairie and tundra, Glacier National Park is the center of one of the largest and most intact ecosystems in North America. There are over 130 turquoise alpine lakes, mountain goats, moose, grizzly bears, and glacier cut mountains that are sure to leave you speechless. With over 700 miles of hiking trails, Glacier National Park is truly a scenic treasure.

Getting around

To get around the mountain terrain and vast highways in 'Big Sky Country', it's really best to have a car (preferably 4 wheel or front-wheel drive in winter). Good for those back road explorations!

There is a no smoking policy anywhere on property. We love hosting wonderful travelers who are appreciative, considerate and respectful. Growing up on a ranch in Montana, I cultivated a special affinity for hard work, animals and the great outdoors. Affectionately described as 'the hummingbird that rules the garden', I've also had lots of fun and interesting adventures in the entertainment world as a stage performer, voice-over artist, arts educator, writer and film producer. My Scottish husband, Steve, and I met in the Slovak Republic while I was on a Fulbright teaching assignment in 2010 and proceeded to take a whole year to explore the world together. Travel is our passion (along with dark chocolate, jack russells, beagles, golf and skiing)! We love hosting and meeting folks from all over the world and are delighted to be both guests and hosts on Airbnb.

Our style of hosting is to make sure you're all set up with everything you'll need to make your stay comfortable and then we leave you alone to explore and make memories! We are there if you need us, but are pretty private people and really believe in giving guests the freedom to do their own thing. We expect all our guests to be respectful, considerate, clean and self-sufficient and to treat our property as if it were their own. We subscribe to the 'leave it better than you found it' philosophy both as hosts and guests ourselves.
We love this saying, especially as it applies to travel: "What's wrong is always available, so is what's right!"
