Other Things to Note

I have helped several foreign visitors with English pronunciation and reading from a book that I wrote over the years of teaching beginning reading. I also have given them drawing and painting lessons, which the children especially enjoy. I have 300 piece large format jigsaw puzzles which many have enjoyed in their spare time. Some families have invited their friends that they know in the area for swimming and eating out in the back yard.
Some visitors have asked me to accompany them to places to help them find things, which I am happy to do.
Guests staying long enough to cook have use of my staples, condiments, and general food on hand.

Check In
  • Staying with Marsha was a delight. Her home is warm and welcoming. Such a wonderful alternative to the typical Ontario hotel.

  • The house is conveniently located at two highway (I10) exits from the Claremont Colleges, on a nice street, close to downtown Pomona.
Marsha’s house is a carefully decorated antique house where each item has been designed to fit a space, a function and a purpose. The basement room which is simple, perfectly cleaned and includes a bathroom, has been designed with the same attention to details than the rest of the house.
Marsha is a wonderful and welcoming host, flexible on arrival time, and helpful with directions and in navigating the online reservation site. She will prepare a full breakfast, and entertain you with an interesting conversation, if you so wish. You may expect a lesson in blind contour drawing, in teaching methods and learn about yourself or another perspective of life. A wonderful, lovable well behaved dog is part of the house.

  • I was out from England working in Southern California for 6weeks so selecting somewhere to stay without much local knowledge was a gamble and the gamble paid-off. I stayed in the self-contained downstairs room which was adequate for my needs.
As I was working from "home" I needed access to WiFi and this was perfect. Marsha helped-out with print / scan facilities when these were needed and didn't mind that I cluttered the dining room table with my work paraphenalia during the day.
The house has very good access to I-10, a very short drive into Claremont Village (my favourite place) and just slightly further afield to Benelli Park and the mountains (Mt Baldi) - good for walking, running, cycling if so inclined. Parking is on-street but a very quite part of town so no problem.
I think it is true to say I got lucky. Marsha made my stay a pleasure, a home-from-home experience, very welcoming and helpful in so many ways.

I am a retired teacher of grades Pre-K- 3rd, wrote a textbook for beginning readers, give art and reading lessons as a community service, and the art lessons to guests who are interested and English pronunciation and reading to foreign guests who would like to improve their accent. I live with a well behaved, lovable English Pointer. I like to read and garden, and am interested in history and Bible studies. Since I always worked in a bi-lingual classroom, I speak a little Spanish, enough to make myself understood. I don't watch television, except for a little news, but I do have streaming video and every evening watch a black and white movie from the 1930s-1950s available on Amazon Prime. I can't live without quiet, greenery, books, my family, pets, and a good movie. I treat my guests like I do my family members. I look after them making sure that they have everything they need before starting off for their day, things like: beach blanket, ice chest and packs, picnic basket, umbrella, snacks for the road, art supplies for children, jacket, sun hat, seat cushion, and anything I have that might make their day more comfortable. My life motto is: You can't do what you can't do; but you can do what you can do.
