House rules
This place isn’t suitable for infants (0–2 yrs) and the host doesn’t allow pets, parties, or smoking.
This is a sweet warm room with twin bed chest of drawers, desk and hanging closet with shelves.

I have a 2nd larger room with two twin beds in it, listed separately, and also a very small bedroom with a slightly narrower bed with a curtain across the doorway.

The space
A charming Cape-Cod style cottage, known as "The Little Red House" - is listed as the oldest house in Dobbs Ferry, being built around 1828. This middle-sized guest bedroom is on the second floor along with two other family bedrooms. The bathroom is shared. The guest bedroom is small but cozy with a single bed, small desk, chest of drawers and a closet. There is no A/C in the summer but we have fans.

Another slightly smaller bedroom (unlisted), just recently renovated and restored with a slightly narrower bed complete with chest of drawers, small gentleman's desk and bookshelf is also available on the same floor for a slightly discounted rate of $40. There is no closet in this room. Perfect for parent with child, or two friends each wanting their own room. This room does not have a door, but has a full length curtain across the doorway. I usually sleep here.

Another larger bedroom with 2 twin beds is also available. Check out my other listing, "Large bedroom in historic 1828 Dobbs Ferry home"

Guest access
The guest is welcome to use the whole house which is shared between me and my grown up twin sons when they are home, which is not often.
The house has a small galley kitchen, a dining room and a living room. Kitchen privileges are use of fridge to store items, microwave, tea and coffee making and use of the stove.
There is a lovely back patio along with a grill and a picnic table under a green canopy that looks across a small back garden.
The house has a small front porch for sitting, and boasts an English garden bursting with flowers in the spring and early summer.

BIKE TOURS
I have 2 bicycles. Rent a bike for the day at $30 each and ride along "The Old Croton Acqueduct". Bike passes for the train are included. Each bike has a rack with attached bag to store your lunch and belongings.
The OCA is a beautiful car-free wooded dirt path that runs through all the river towns. From Dobbs Ferry it runs 19 miles north and ends up at the magnificent Croton Dam. This is a spectacular one whole day adventure, with lots of things to stop and look at along the way including the Lyndhurst mansion, the bike path running right through the middle of it.
Towards the end of the trail, a little ways below the dam there is a steep path that leads you down to the river where there is a great swimming hole. The river is deep and slow here and you can jump off rocks into the slow moving water.
To do this ride you need to be reasonably fit as there are a couple of areas where you have to scramble a little bit.
On the way, in Ossining there are some wonderful local Equadorian eating joints. Right below the Ossining Weir there is a great little museum, "The Sing Sing River Museum" that includes photos and historical information about the construction of the aqueduct as well as Sing Sing prison itself. Really, really fun and very small. Definitely worth a visit. No entrance fee.
From the dam you get on the road and cycle back to the Croton on Hudson railway station, stopping in at "The Blue Pig" to get a delicious ice cream. Take the train back to Dobbs Ferry.

Other things to note
Sometimes my adult twin sons come home to visit. This does not happen very often. There may or may not be another guest when you stay as I have 2 rooms that I let out. I have 2 cats that are friendly.

There are a few rules that I would like guests to adhere to:
I would like the screens for the windows to be kept closed at all times, especially on the ground floor where the kitchen is and where the cat's food dishes are located. This is to prevent flies and other unwanted insects from coming in.
The back door and front door needs to be closed at all times as raccoons that live in the neighborhood will take advantage and walk in which they have done before. Also my neighbors cat will come in and spray if the door is left open.
Guests need to remove their shoes once inside the house. I have a shelf by the front door where they can be place.

Dobbs Ferry, New York, United States

Great safe neighborhood. Friendly local people who know each other.
We are a leisurely 12 min downhill walk to the Dobbs Ferry train station (38 -50 min ride to Grand Central), and a 1 min stroll around the corner to all the local restaurants, shops and main grocery store.
The Bee Line bus stop is just 50 yds down the street, taking you to White Plains or Yonkers.
The 27 mile Old Croton Aqueduct is also within arms reach, a paradise for hikers, joggers and bikers and we have a local riverside park for picnicking. The historic home of Washington Irving, "Sunnyside" is right up the street in the next village of Irvington; and Lyndhurst Castle in Tarrytown, both open to the public.

Describing oneself always has me completely flummoxed but here goes. I am an easy outgoing individual. I enjoy the city but I also love the countryside and nature. I love animals, friendly people and exploring places that are off the beaten path. I share my house with my grownup twin sons, two cats and a ferret but I have always enjoyed putting up friends who are visiting from out of town or the country. I am a dental hygienist by trade but I also own my own small cottage industry printing wallpaper in a small studio set up in my basement. I was born in England but spent my early years growing up in Ghana until age 14. I moved to the USA in 1981. I bought the oldest house in Dobbs Ferry in 2005 and have been slowly renovating it ever since.
