This review is a little late but I wanted to get back to the US first. This is truly a great find with a perfect location just 5 minutes walk to Plaza de Armas and many of the other sights in the center of Cusco. An interesting location tucked in behind a school but quiet and comfortable. I was welcomed with a cup of coca tea and during my stay found that there was always hot water available to make more tea. The hostale is built around a beautiful central court yard with a water feature and a profusion of flowers that gave a sense of tranquility. I had not realized that breakfast was included but it was certainly a welcome benefit.
Tania herself speaks excellent English and was very congenial and her staff are very pleasant and helpful although because of my limited Spanish I found a bit hard to understand - that is MY failure not theirs.
The only very slight distractor was that I found that late at night and early in the morning my room was a bit cold and I would have loved a small heater to boost the temperature by about 5. Was not cold in bed because there was plenty of blankets and a comforter.
I can't say enough how much we loved our stay at Munaycha. It's a family-run house tucked two courtyards away from the street (gives it a secluded, safe feeling, which was important for two female travelers). Upon entering, there's a third courtyard -- a beautiful, lush garden with fountain. Flowers everywhere!
We stayed in a cozy double room on the third floor. Everything was clean and tidy, and we had nice views of Cusco around us. Hot water for showers and strong wifi signal.
And then, a wonderful surprise: a patio on the top floor with views overlooking the city. There's also a dining area by the patio with glass doors and windows all around to give a great open feeling. We enjoyed a simple but filling complimentary breakfast up there.
Tania and others were hospitable, communicative and helpful (setting up cabs, flexible times for checking out and in). Checking out and in were a breeze, and they even let us stow our luggage after checking out while we were out exploring the city. Speaking of the city -- Munaycha is a five minute's walk from the main plaza and just a block or two away from great eateries. Couldn't have asked for a better location.
One thing was noise -- our room was permeable to outside noise, but having stayed in a few Peruvian cities during my travels, this was a common thing. Just bring earplugs!
In summary: beautiful, warm, hospitable, amazing views. Would highly recommend!
I greatly enjoyed my stay at Tania's. Tania is very hospitable and helpful. Upon arrival, she offered a welcome tea and helped me coordinate about the tour. The place is conveniently located -- very close to Plaza de Armas. It has a great view of Cusco. The place is also well decorated, with new furniture. It was one of my best experience in my travel in South America.
Tania was there to greet me when I arrived, she made me feel most welcome. Brilliant first impressions of the place, my whole stay there was wonderful. Description of property was correct. And a great location, walking distance to everything in Cuzco :) I look forward to staying there again soon, I have booked another night there after my return from Machu Picchu and my travels to Bolivia. I would recommend this place to anyone :)
Very cosy clean quiet and homely place. As a single female traveller I felt safe and Tania is incredibly helpful and friendly (she helped me with transfers and travel advice). There are also beautiful views of Cusco which makes the experience more authentic. I'll definitely stay again!!!
I stayed at the Munaycha twice, first on my way to MP and on my way back. During my first stay of 3 nights Tania was away in Lima but the pick up from the airport was perfectly organized and much appreciated. The family at the hostal are all very friendly but only one of them speaks english (besides Tania). The room was very nice and very clean with 2 windows on both sides overlooking the city. Breakfast was simple but ok and enjoyable since you eat on the terrace with great views over the city. The hostal has a quiet location behind a school pretty much in the center of old town and very close to the Plaza de Armas. I enjoyed my stay there and can recommend this hostal to anyone who is looking for a quiet location in the old town in a beautiful settimg and nice rooms. Ask for a room on the top floor for the views.
Tania was very accommodating when our reservation had to be changed slightly for a Machu Picchu visit and an added friend. She even let us store our extra baggage while we made the day trip. The view from the balcony is amazing and it is lovely to have breakfast up there! Tania's place is centrally located and the directions she gives are helpful for getting in. I will say that winter in Cuzco can get pretty cold and the rooms are not heated so bring fluffy socks and buy a warm alpaca sweater! The hot water in the shower is a blessing. On an unrelated but hopefully helpful note it should only cost you about 10-15 soles to get to Tania's place from the airport. We took an official taxi there and were charged 30 but when we hailed one on the street to go back to the airport we only paid 10.
