Located in the heart of Harlem, just a few blocks from the subway, and Harlem's thriving cultural district, our spacious home features exposed brick throughout, and plenty of artistic charm with modern comforts. The home is decorated with cultural flair, the pictures don't do it justice! Artists will find inspiration and room to work here.
The room features a thick wood door, big window, a very comfortable queen size bed, book shelves filled with dramatic literature and poetry, a desk and chair as well as your own closet.
High speed wifi available and cable TV. We are in a pre-war building with lots of charm, exposed brick, and new appliances. We have one dog, named Penny and one cat, Mrs. Jones. They are both friendly and affectionate furballs.
Forget the tiny, overpriced shoe boxes for rent downtown. Get away from the blaring horns and constant tourists in Midtown. Enjoy New York with enough space to kick up your feet and relax, in our very own Harlem Palace.
Please contact us if you are interested in booking as we prefer to establish a personal connection with our guests prior to booking.
We offer high speed internet, high (website hidden) and cable in both living room and office. There is a large open kitchen with modern appliances, granite countertops and plenty of storage.
Interaction with Guests
You will be sharing the rest of the apartment with us including the zen and luxurious bathroom and funky open common spaces. Feel free to bring/cook your own food or eat with us in our spacious modern kitchen. We are not home much during the day, but after work we hang out in the living room and have dinner, you are welcome to join us, or do your own thing.
Harlem has changed a lot in the last 20 years, and you will feel completely safe at all hours of the day or night. Set amongst Harlem's rich history and cultural blocks, many famous churches including Abyssinian Baptist Church nearby, as well as short walk to Red Rooster, Sylvia's, the legendary Apollo Theater, Corner Social, Cove Lounge, and the Mount Morris Park Historical district including Marcus Garvey Park. There is a park and basketball court across the street. There are new restaurants opening every day, and lots of local flavor to explore.
The subway is very close. Just 5 easy blocks walk from the 135th St. stop on the 2 or 3 train. Can also be easily accessed by B or C train to 135th St. Stop. If you are driving, street parking is usually available, or there are a few lots less than 3 blocks away.
Other Things to Note
If you are looking to explore the city's theater or art scene, just ask! We would be happy to point you towards great exhibits, shows, or concerts happening in the city. JJ always keeps up with show openings and interesting things around town.
Treat our home the way you would treat your own. We are very easy going people, but we would expect out guests to clean up after themselves, keep all food in the kitchen, turn off lights when not in use, and be respectful as we often work from home.
I didn't have a chance to meet Jenny but Dan was there all the time.He was thoughtful and hospitable. I enjoyed my stay very much.Everything is perfect, thank you Dan and Jenny.
I enjoyed a very pleasant stay. Dan is very kind and provides clear informations when needed.
Despite the first outlook, I ended up feeling very safe in this area, even alone.
I recommend this place.
I am thrilled I found this room to stay in. I had to move to NYC very quickly for a new job and this ended up being the perfect living situation while I got on my feet. Dan was a very welcoming and generous host (Jennie was in London during my stay). I had issues with getting into my own apartment and Dan was very flexible and accommodating, allowing me to book more days at his place last minute. Dan is also quiet and respectful of privacy as a "roommate."
This apartment is even better in person than it is in pictures. It's very spacious (by NYC standards) and beautifully decorated. You can tell Dan and Jennie put a lot of care into it. My room was great with enough space for me and my cat. The bed was comfy and they offered plenty hotel-esque amenities like iron and small ironing board, toiletries, and fresh towels and linens. I personally love the neighborhood, too.
During my stay I got to meet Dan's dog and cat, Penny and Mrs. Jones. They are so cute and warmed right up to me.
Without hesitation, I would recommend staying here during your next trip to the city. Thank you, Dan!
I stayed here for a month while I was in NYC for work and it was an excellent experience! I was a little nervous at first, because this was my first airbnb trip, but Dan made me feel right at home when I arrived. He was extremely helpful with tips for places to eat and advice on how best to get around the city. The apartment is really nice and feels even bigger in person because of the gorgeous tall ceilings. I felt very safe in the neighborhood and access to transportation was good (about 25 min to midtown on the train). Mrs. Jones and Penny were also wonderful hosts, I only wish that I had gotten to meet Jenny while I was there!
We had a great time! Dan was an attentive and helpful host.
The apartment is cosy and very well placed, near public transport and facilities.
Definitely, something to redo without hesitation.
