Santa Teresa is one of Costa Rica's greatest destinations. A growing town built along the beach offers the beauty of nature with modern amenities. A wide variety of food options and fully stocked stores make sure there is plenty to choose from. Two banks in town make it convenient to withdraw money without having to carry around a large quantity of money.
The town is built along one long road, and one could walk from the beginning to the end in about 40 minutes. Plenty of taxis are available, and the public bus goes to Cobano several times a day. There are 4 car rental companies with offices in Santa Teresa/Mal Pais, and there are sevaral ATV rental locations throughout the town.
From Dec 20, 2015 - Jan 10, 2016 the minimum stay is 7 nights.
The Lula bungalow was exactly as pictured and the location is the big draw. The accommodations are very basic and if you set your expectations accordingly, you will not be disappointed.
Pros: location, steps from an amazing stretch of beach and the Banana Beach bar (loved it!). Walking distance from market and several restaurants. People who work/manage the property are very nice and want to make sure you are happy. A/C and wifi works great.
Cons: lack of storage or anything to put your clothes in in the bungalow. No coffee maker in the room, despite it being a kitchenette (Costa Rican coffee is delicious and I like mine as soon as I wake up). Most of the electrical outlets in the room weren't working when we got there, but they sent maintenance and he was able to fix all but the bathroom one.
Overall it was a good 4-day stay and we enjoyed our time at Lula.
HOST: Great contact and communication prior to arrival. Main reception by restaurant was rarely staffed. No wifi information given to us until we asked other guests
RECEPTION: confusion on location as there is no clear sign. There are 3 different names to the location.
The gentleman at the reception initially seemed bothered by us, passed us off to Eli after 3 younger girls showed up behind us.
LULA BUNGALOW: Private yard seemed great at first but ended up being an avenue for thieves and peeping toms. The room was clean with a nice king bed. The shower could use some updating as well as the kitchenette area as well. The roof needs to be repaired as it is being covered by a tarp. We had a rainy night and had 2 inches on our floor when we woke up (discount given) We stayed 3 nights here!
GARDEN BUNGALOW: more of a tree house style bungalow with open gaps and exposure. I'm not a bug person at night so we slept downstairs on 2 Separate single beds to try to avoid the little critters. We used baygon bug spray around our beds on the floor and avoided them:)
The shower is open to the outside up top at the roof. We came home one day to a huge iguana in the shower area, he was living in the roof area!
Both accommodations are overpriced for what you get!!!!
POOL: Warm and clean. You cannot stop the leaves from falling so don't judge those. The pool cleaner was there 2x daily as we spent a ton of time there. It was a great atmosphere only lacking a bar!!!
RESTAURANT/BAR: The restaurant served delicious food that was mildly over priced. The servers were nice but quite slow as they speak to much to the guests and keep you waiting. The bar was great, 2 for 1 drinks were a decent deal. The view is amazing. Entertainment was really good especially Rhapso's fire shows
SURF SHOP: Non-enticing. No advertising. Didn't look trustworthy enough to trust my life with them
SPA: What spa???
BANANA BEACH: Best part of this amenity. The beach is clean and there is accessible seating as well. Sunsets from here are amazing. Great location to watch the surfers!!
Tons of stray dogs..love them
RATING: 3.5 stars
Value for money is mediocre. They are overpriced especially when the beach and restaurant are free and available fir anyone to use!!
We would consider coming back to the area but would rent the private villas with private pools next time.
It is what it is. The pictures are better online but you cannot go wrong with a few day experience here.
We were so pleasantly surprised by this place. We had our own private yard complete with outdoor shower and hammocks. The spot is a 10-15 minute walk from the center of town but it is at banana beach which is one of the sweetest beach spots to chill at. I would recommend this place to anyone. It was comfy, beautiful and the staff was incredibly friendly. We will definitely stay here again.
We loved everything about this place! The Lula bungalow was absolutely perfect! Cute, clean and only steps from the beach! The white sand beach is perfect for swimming, surfing and running! The beach bar and restaurant are perfect for days that you don't want to leave the beach....they even had evening entertainment!
Emilya was incredibly helpful before, during and after the trip. We left a cell phone in the room and she went out of her way to ship it back to California for us! I highly recommend the Luz de Vida Resort to anyone visiting Santa Theresa! We will for sure be back!
Emilya responded very quickly to my enquiries and was able to confirm the booking efficiently. She was also very helpful with regard to organising taxis to and from the accommodation.
The accommodation was as described, and we enjoyed our stay very much.
Luna Bungalow is in a great location - a 5 minute walk to Santa Teresa town 'center', with groceries and restaurants also available right outside the property gate. The inside of the bungalow is comfortable and nice, there are the basics anyone would need to stay for a few days, we definitely made use of the kitchenette as it is much cheaper to cook than eat out in Santa Teresa. Though there is a day bed so 3 people could fit inside to sleep I think that would start to get really cramped. The bungalow itself is on a compound with other bungalows and the layout and landscaping of the property has been well done so that each bungalow feels very private and open. The reception and housekeeping staff were polite and efficient. I never met Emilya but the instructions that she left with us were very clear - we did not have any issues finding the place or while we were staying there. Highly recommend this property for couples that are 'flash-packing' and staying in Santa Teresa for a few days.
