Interaction with Guests
Such wonderful guests we are blessed to have stay here with us it is my goal to interact as much (or as little) as is necessary, fun, informative and mutually beneficial. No more and no less.
A quote from a recent guest
"This is probably the coolest house in the coolest neighborhood on the big island. You'll be in Seaview, a block from the lavarock shore. Seaview is filled with friendly island hippies who say hi when they pass you, and everyone knows the Triangle House. Some people know it as the "Cheese House," because it looks like a wedge of swiss cheese lying on its side, with each window a porthole. This is my favorite neighborhood in the 4 that I've stayed at on the big island (kailua-kona/captain cook, hilo, volcano/mt view, na'alehu/ocean view). You're living in a gorgeous jungle, with great ocean access, a plethora of interesting artists and hippies, and the best neighborhood spirit I've seen. Every wednesday, the whole community of the Puna district ends up at a fair on the edge of civilization where the 1970 lava flow literally rolled over the city of Kalapana, called "Uncle Roberts at the End of the Road." I don't know a better way to say hello to a new community than that. Randall is a great host. He's a craftsman who cares a lot about the building, and is trying to improve its design for the people who stay in it. He's super easy to work with. He's been doing constant work on the property. It was designed by an architect who had a dream about "round holes and square pegs" and designed a property with a Triangle house, a Rectangle house, a Circle water catchman, and two Square sheds. There's also a real-life castle next-door. It's like living in a dream."

We came in later than planned and were received with a note of Aloha! Door open and Fans going! When we woke in the morning we were even more delighted by our view and location!
The layout of the home is clean and neat! Just enough to make you comfortable.
We enjoyed the magnetic screen fabric that led out to our lanai every day!
The kitchen was great! We truly appreciated the recycling and composting rules in the house it felt like home!
The night air and frogs lulled us to sleep each night! Along with the (great ceiling fans)
After being on all parts of the Island, this location was our favorite! Randall's house made it magical!! We look forward to more visits! And a longer stay!!
With warm best wishes and Mahalo!!
Our stay in Pahoa was absolutely perfect. The apartment was just as beautiful as advertised. In fact, some of the sofas were newer and nicer than what is shown in the photographs. We were looking for something private and comfortable, near the ocean and in a bit off the beaten path, and that is exactly what we got. The community itself is very unique and inviting, with a black sand beach nearby (albeit a clothing optional beach -- to each his own!).
We arrived in the evening, around 8pm. Unfortunately Randall was off the island during our stay, but we were greeted by the house guests staying the studio apartment downstairs (also one of Randall's properties). They were also from the Northeast, but unlike us, they were staying in Pahoa for a month -- we were jealous. Our interactions were brief, only on our way in and out of the house, sharing tips for exploring the island, getting around, etc. We never felt as though we didn't have complete privacy.
The apartment was clean, well decorated/furnished and spacious. We couldn't have asked for more. The two lanais (one off the second floor and one off the third floor) offered a great place to relax with a cocktail after a long day of hiking, swimming, and exploring. At night the roof deck was perfect for stargazing. Sometimes you could hear the sound of the whales' blow holes and occasionally them breaching which is pretty magical.
The kitchen was well-equipped and pleasant to cook in, which we did nightly. If you'd like to go out to eat though, Pahoa village is not far at all, offering a small strip of bars and restaurants ranging from Thai cuisine to NY-style pizza. It's a cool little area. We at at Ming's and the food was exceptional.
The bed was very comfortable. Two ceiling fans and the windows open kept us cool at night. The jacuzzi tub was very relaxing -- located right in the bedroom which was actually pretty cool. And there was plenty of storage space in the walk-in closet.
Overall, We would definitely stay here again. Just writing about now makes me missing being there, and I find it hard to believe that we won't be returning after having such a good experience.
It was easy to feel the aloha spirit at this apartment. It felt like we could enjoy a piece of paradise in what we found to be a great place to stay on the Big Island. It was clean, beautifully located, and had gorgeous views from both balconies and the roof. It was a very comfortable apartment in every way. We loved being able to use the kitchen for breakfasts and dinners. It was easy to check in, even though we arrived our first night rather late. It is dark in the area at night (though there is a convenient light near the door to the apartment), so bring a flashlight or headlamp and enjoy the stars!
Randall's place was fantastic. My husband and I stayed there two nights. The two floors are extremely convenient as one can sleep quietly when the other starts cooking breakfast! We simply loved having breakfast on the lanai. The view is spectacular. It is also very quiet, which was what we were looking for. Even though we arrived quite late the first day, Randall was waiting for us and helped us finding our way: it is pitch black outside at night (which is great for star gazing). Superb snorkeling 20 minutes away. And Uncle's Robert Awa club is a good place for tacos and live music on Friday night. We hope that we will be able to come back sooner rather than later! Thanks Randall.
Randall was a very gracious host. The property was absolutely stunning, and the neighborhood was also gorgeous. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
We loved our stay in Pahoa, and Randall's place was a gem. I loved the unique design and the colored glass in the apartment. Perfect! He anticipated all of our needs and was friendly without being intrusive. The area was gorgeous and a great contrast to the resort side of the Hawaii. Thanks, Randall.
Randall was there to greet us on our way into the townhouse. The space was open, airy, and unique-- loved the roof view and the quiet of Pahoa! He also gave us recommendations of the town and made sure he was available if we needed anything. We had to leave early but very much enjoyed our stay on this side of the big island!
