The Space

Canaan, NY
Great Natural Beauty, Culture, Outdoor Activities and Easy Highway Access

Charming house situated on 4 lovingly-landscaped acres with abutting woods, nestled on a quiet country road. Relax in a spacious, comfortable house while staying in your own private room with a private bathroom (which has a bathtub, shower, heat lamp and an adjoining room with toilet and sink.)

Take advantage of our fully equipped home with hardwood floors, a sun-drenched porch, a warming fireplace, spinet piano, several select libraries, and an open "great room".

Marvel at colorful multiple-type gardens, fruit trees and shrubs, mature woods, deck, hammock, two gas grills and fire pit, outside. Swing on the bench at our small private pond, hidden away in our woods, and, in season, celebrate nature by listening to chorus-like peepers, chirping wood frogs and night owls.

Two and a half hours from Boston and New York City with easy access to the Mass Pike and the Taconic Parkway. Within 20-40 miles of all that the Berkshires, Hudson Valley and the Capitol Region have to offer.

You are close to:
Museums: Norman Rockwell, Clark Art, Mass MOCA and more.
Theater: Williamstown Theater Festival, Berkshire Theater Festival, Barrington Stage and many smaller companies...
Music: Tanglewood, SPAC and numerous smaller venues...
Dance: Jacob's Pillow stands out among others..
Skiing: Jiminy Peak, Catamount, Butternut Basin, Bosquet, and more...
Other: Kripalu, Apple orchards, wineries...
Hiking, biking, boating, adventure parks, and of course, simply appreciating the scenic beauty.

INCLUDED IN THE RENTAL IS A PASS TO A PRIVATE SANDY BEACH ON BEAUTIFUL QUEECHY LAKE (along with lifeguards, dock, boating and fishing), which is 3 miles away.

There are two first-floor bedrooms available for guests that can accommodate up to three adults each. The upstairs has a master bedroom with magnificent views and a ceiling fan. In addition there is a guest room/study/entertainment room with a pull out couch.

There are foam mattresses and blow-up mattresses available for any room. All rooms have linens, and dresser and closet space.

The house is home to two beautiful cats. I have had people stay in the house who are allergic to cats, but with their basic medication have done fine. The house is meticulously cleaned and vacuumed before any rentals, but if anyone in your party is super allergic to cats, they may react to some of the dander inherent in a house where cats live.

Guest Access

Unlimited use of entire house. Bathrooms on both first and second floor. Cook meals, store goods in refrigerator, make some tea, relax in grand open room, build a fire, play spinet piano, browse our extensive libraries. Enjoy our backyard, patio area, and fire pit. Walk in our woods, sit on the bench at our pond. Park your car(s) in our two bay garage.

Interaction with Guests

We will always try to greet you in person upon arrival and departure, in addition to phone calls and emails before your visit. We usually stay close by during your visit, so we can be of assistance in person or have someone else help you as needed.

The Neighborhood

Pleasingly quiet and secluded, yet fairly close to neighbors in our rural setting. We enjoy watching and listening to the birds at our feeders, noticing the deer and turkeys traveling through our yard and woods, listening to the seasonal serenade of the frogs peeping, and the owls hooting. Go outside and enjoy nature- it's at your service.

Getting around

Plenty of free parking on site and a two bay garage with a doorway into the house. One must have a car to get around in this area. Use our bikes, canoe or kayak for recreational travel!

  • We were a large group and Becca went above and beyond expectations to accommodate us. Her house is exactly as described and our group particularly enjoyed all the comfortable rocking chairs. Location of the house is also ideal with many places to visit and explore in the area. All in all, we had wonderful stay.

  • Becky was a wonderful host and her house is a perfect spot. We had a family celebration there for my brother's graduation weekend and it was absolutely ideal. The space is welcoming and relaxed, and the property is beautiful. It was a great trip and I would go back any time!

  • We had a great time! The property is beautiful and although the house is not enormous, it fits a big group quite comfortably. The location is great and nearby everything you would want to do - outdoor adventures, hiking, ropes courses, museums, etc...Becky is very easy going and wonderful host, we highly recommend!

  • My friends and I had an amazing stay at Becky's house for the weekend—it was the perfect escape from the city. The house is lovely and more spacious than it appears in pictures, with several personal touches that make it feel like a comfortable home. There is a lot of furniture and the place is very functional. All of the wood floors, furniture, and appliances give it a natural feel, along with an abundance of natural light coming through large windows. It's about a 15-20 minute drive to the grocery store, so plan ahead before heading out. The store itself was surprisingly nice and well-stocked. Becky was very communicative and thoughtful.

  • Becky and Bob were great hosts. They accommodated our large party and Bob met us upon our arrival to make sure that we had everything we needed and show us where everything was. When we ran into an issue, they were very gracious about it and happy to help. The house was great and came with lots of advice on what to do in the area. I'd definitely recommend the home and hope to stay there again!

  • Becky was a terrific host. She made coordination easy over airbnb and email, was very responsive, and was accommodating of our large party that consisted of multiple families, including little children. Our vacation included skiing at the Bousquet ski area, which was an easy 20-minute drive from the house. The house's long driveway was tricky to navigate with the ice we faced, but other than that the house was great, clean, and cozy. We made several yummy meals in the well-stocked kitchen. After we left and she returned, Becky found a Kindle we had unfortunately left behind and she shipped it almost immediately to our home in Brooklyn. Overall, we were all comfortable and had a great stay.

  • The place was great! It was big, beautiful and cozy. It had everything you needed to cook, grill, make s'mores and hang with friends. The location was super close to the beautiful lake for fishing and close enough to drive to hiking spots. All that, plus Becky was super helpful, nice and available for all of my questions. I'd love to come back again and would definitely recommend to others.

  • Rebecca's house was exactly what we needed. It was clean, spacious and comfortable. We didn't get to explore much of the outdoor space, but it was a treat to know that is was there. As a host Rebecca was very attentive and helpful. I would certainly recommend it to any small group looking for a spot in Columbia County!

  • We so enjoyed our stay in Canaan, NY! Becky is a personable, welcoming and fair host. The house was ideal for our reunion with friends - a beautiful kitchen, open to dining and living areas, ideal for preparing group meals with kids nearby. The yard is lovely and we enjoyed a sunny afternoon in the hammock. We three families were completely content to stay put and catch up, but I have a feeling the region has much to offer for arts and culture as well!

  • We enjoyed our stay at Becky's home. It was very comfortable, clean and just what we hoped for. Her house is very spacious and tea in the sun room was delightful in the afternoon! Thank you for sharing your home with our family.

I am a retired elementary school teacher with grown children who live in NYC. My home is available as a B and B or as a full house rental. I love hostessing and sharing my home with others. I love making people feel comfortable and helping them take advantage of this area. I have spent much of my life traveling. I have spent a year in Mexico and Guatemala and a year in Ecuador. I have traveled to most of the US states, to Europe and Israel. I hope to get to Africa and Asia before I die. I usually stay at hostels because I enjoy meeting other people. In another life I would like to run a youth hostel. This could be the next best thing. I am an outdoor enthusiast and particularly like hiking, swimming, bicycling, kayaking and gardening. When I am feeling down, it is usually because I haven't had enough time outdoors. I play the clarinet with the Eagles Band in Pittsfield, Ma. I have lived in this home for 30 years. I currently live with my boyfriend and 2 cats. Presently I work for the Berkshire Immigrant Center and for Common Good Finance, an organization creating an alternative, local economy.
