Beverly greets you at the airport and gives a mini tour which is great. Fantastic central location, immaculate and beautifully updated. The listing and communications are very clear, re no windows and a flight of steps. Photos are totally accurate. Wonderful! Especially liked the bathrobe, a nice touch.
What a wonderful experience for us at this time in our lives. Not only was this a vacation but a trial period to gather all the info we could concerning the area as we are seriously planning on retiring there. With Bev's extensive knowledge of all we needed to know, it was an easy decision on our part.
Bev was always available via cell phone she provided, her Guest Book was indispensable with most info one would need while at her apartment. All is pretty straight forward in description of her apt, house rules, location to surrounding areas & communication with her.
We would go back in a heart-beat & are actually considering it for the near future - maybe around September!!!
Thanks Bev for a lovely place to stay & the beginning of a long friendship
Beverley's apartment was thoughtfully set up and beautifully decorated with very good clothes washing/drying, cooking and heating facilities. It was very secure and quiet at the back of a multi level building. As we were well aware from the description there were no windows but ample light penetrated from the sky lights at either end of the apartment. Despite this my wife did have a little claustrophobic discomfort coping with the lack of outside visibilty. The Wi-Fi and entertainment options worked well and the location was very convient to a super market and Plaza de Armas.
Beverly's apartment is just as advertised with all the conveniences and amenities listed. Beverly was not in Cuenca when we arrived but her assistant, Michelle, picked us up as promised. She took us to the apartment and showed us everything we needed to know. Beverly's guidebook for the apartment and the surrounding area was very detailed and helpful.
Beverly communicated with us several times prior to and during our visit to make sure things went smooth and answer any questions we had.
The apartment was clean and quiet. We really enjoyed the shower with great water pressure and plenty of hot water. The TV, cable, and DVD collection helped us relax in the evenings.
The apartment is within walking distance to everything in El Centro. Highly recommended rental.
Beverly kept in contact with us prior to our arrival and was promptly waiting at the airport to pick us up. She took us to the apartment and gave a great overview of the place. Her divided notebook with all the house rules and directions for operating equipment along with suggestions on restaurants, shopping, sightseeing, and contact info left us very comfortable that we would enjoy our time. Her DVD collection was very organized and enjoyable during rest periods. A classy place that you will be proud to show pictures of when you get home. Beverly also made sure we had a convenient time to return the keys and then hailed us a cab so she knew we would get safely to the airport.
A great place to stay city center and loads of places to go walking distance. Would recommend Beverly's place to all.
Beverly is a wonderful and adept host. She understands the vagaries of travel in Ecuador and makes you feel welcome. The apartment is a jewel in the center of Cuenca.
This was my first time using airbnb and it could not have worked out better for me. I'm traveling extensively through South America and my mother decided to visit me while I'm traveling in Ecuador. We stayed in hotels in Quito and Baños, but this was better than staying in a hotel and cheaper too. The apartment is very well furnished. There is a well-equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, satellite tv, fast internet, a phone you can use to call the US, as well as cell phone for local usage. Everything was just as described in the listing. Clearly, Beverly has made every effort to make her guests feel at home here. She picked us up from the bus terminal and gave us a lot of good information on Cuenca, including interesting things to do, precautions, restaurants, etc. The apartment is in a great location as well. It's situated between a grocery store and a high-end hotel, and the main square is only a block away. It is both close to the sights and attractions of Cuenca and safe too. Overall, highly recommended.
About the Host, Beverly
I had no idea what life had in store for me when I made the big move to Cuenca, but it was the best decision I've ever made in my life. After growing up in Saskatchewan Canada, I spent the next 30 years in a beautiful place called Seattle Washington. Traveling the world and experiencing new cultures has been my life long passion, so my decision to move to Ecuador came as no surprise to my friends and family. My days are full and my friends are many. Ecuador is a place of great beauty and I feel very blessed to be here.
Are there things I miss? Yes of course! I miss great Thai and Indian food! Unlike many Latin countries Ecuadorians prefer mild food so for us 'Heat Freaks' we're busy importing our favorite spices. I miss public golf courses...they are all private in Ecuador and Cuenca only has one. I miss downhill skiing. You would think living at 8500 feet above sea level that would not be a problem but that's not the case. The strong sun at the Equator ensures that at this elevation (and even much higher) you won't see any snow. I have to be careful here..I will get a sunburn even on cloudy days.
My life is much simpler here. I don't drive but public transportation such as buses and taxis are very efficient and very inexpensive. I'm happy to not have the need to maintain a car. I walk more than I ever have in my life.
I have a house keeper. I swore I would never again clean my house with domestic labor being so affordable. I am so thankful for my housekeeper. I have so much more time to do the things I enjoy such as taking art classes, playing bridge, hanging out with friends, going to see the symphony, ballet or other cultural events...all free of course. The Government pays the artists to ensure everyone in the country is able to attend and enrich their lives.
Some of the most delicious and healthy produce in the world is available at prices that North America hasn't seen in decades.
Yes...life is good in Ecuador but don't take my word for it. Come and see for yourself....
