About this listing
The Black Grape is 3-story boutique town house in the centre of one of Spain's most important wine regions. If you like food, fine wine, medieval architecture, bulls chasing you on cobbled streets, mountain biking and small town fiestas where you will most likely be the only tourist - then you will surely love this place!
If you book our house for a vacation you will soon find yourself in a 220 sqm. rustic town house located in the village of Ollauri surrounded by some of the most important vine yards of Spain. We think the area is a hidden gem - chances are that you will be the only foreigner around.
The house holds 4 individual double bedrooms, a 40 sqm. rooftop terrasse and 35 sqm. "walk-in mini bar" in the shape of an antique fully stocked wine cellar. Also, we’ve got two well equipped kitchens, an outdoor fireplace and BBQ, broad band internet access, Playstation 3 consoles and digital flat panel televisions in all rooms.
We fully renovated the house in 2009 carefully maintaining all of the house’s original features including our spectacular “walk-in mini-bar” housing a collection of wines at unbeatable prices.
Being a bunch of Danes, we have decorated the interior of the house with contemporary Danish designer furniture ensuring a very high level of comfort. We're think you will appreciate it!

You will need a car to properly benefit from your stay. There is plenty og parking possibilities right outside the house. We can provide mountain bikes for transportation locally.
Preparations, cleaning and linen:
The house will be cleaned before and after you arrival, so no cleaning is required from you part. We also provide clean linen and duvets. A fixed fee for these services are charged (150 Euro)
The wine cellar:
When we began renovations on the house, we uncovered a magnificent vaulted cellar and immediately fell in love with it. Since then we have dedicated our time to hand-selecting a range of wines from some of our favourite bodegas in and around the village.
The way it works - Like an honesty bar, guests at the house are free to take what they like from the cellar and leave the appropriate sum. We are delighted to be able to offer Black Grape guests these top-quality wines at wholesale prices. A wine catalogue is available in the cellar to guide you through the wines, along with individual tasting notes.
The Black Grape was our favorite place to stay on our recent three week trip through Spain. The town of Ollauri is charming and the Black Grape is terrific!
The house is comfortable with different living levels for privacy. The bedrooms are nice sized and the beds are so comfortable! The entire home was immaculate and well-maintained. The appliances are top of the line and a pleasure to cook on. The cookware is Fissler which is good quality.
We appreciated past guests leaving spices and unused grocery items, the first night we arrived we had planned in eating at the local tavern, but there was a local festival which had every business closed for the day. So we were able to cobble a respectable pasta dish together with the ingredients that we found and those we had brought along! Nice.
Of course, in turn, we left food items that we did not use to pay it forward.
We visited four wineries in nearby Haro, our favorite by far was CVNE, which is the umbrella winery for Cune, Contina, and Imperial (a favorite of the Spanish royal family.) I strongly urge you to call ahead and arrange a tour and tasting! Not your average winery!
We hope to come back to the area and will stay at the Black Grape if it is available. Thank you Rasmus for sharing your lovely home!
Thank you for the visit. I am very happy you liked our place and the house - and that you hade such interesting visits. I take note, that you appreciated the "left over" groceries etc. We have discussed this strategy, and in the end chosen not to throw food away and leave a the kitchen "totally clean". Its nice to arrive and not have to buy everything - especially for a short stay. Its sharing economy!
The olive oil is from the village, by the way. Its absolutely fantastic and out of the ordinary. Its made 200 m down the road to the right.
Have a nice trip home.
Best regards Rasmus
Estancia muy recomendable. Destaco la presencia de elementos como PS3 y dos equipos de música para iPhone 4 y otros móviles.
Great house and space well located to explore the region. The house is very well stocked and really enjoyed the wine bar! We were six adults and a baby and had a great time and lots of space.
We had a fantastic 2 nights at Rasmus' beautiful town house in the Rioja region. Located in a picturesque little town surrounded by Bodegas it's definitely a perfect location for wine lovers!! The village itself is very quiet but the local shop is very well stocked and there is a restaurant - although we cooked both nights! The house is well equipped for cooking and would be perfect for large groups as it has plenty of kitchen and washing facilities.
Rasmus was very helpful in accommodating us very last minute and contacted his housekeeper to arrange to meet us. Cruz was very nice but spoke even less English than we do Spanish so she'd brought her daughter along to translate!
This is a beautiful 5 star property with a fantastic wine cellar and lovely system whereby you can select what you want and mark it up to pay at the end of your trip - and the selection of local wines was great :)
The only negative of the whole trip was the inexplicably fluctuating price which appeared to be anything from £124 to £194 depending on when we checked (over a period of just a day or so). When you add to that the cleaning charges (not unreasonable for a group of 10 people over a week but for just 2 people over 2 nights £111 is quite steep) it can quickly become an expensive couple of nights. Rasmus kindly agreed a discount for us as just 2 people but the breakdown of the final price was still impossible to calculate with the fluctuating rate on airbnb. I would say that we had a lovely trip and were not too disappointed with the final price but I would be cautious to watch it in future as there is a big discrepancy between the top end and bottom end prices! We asked Rasmus about it and he seemed as confused as us so this is likely an airbnb anomaly - as we are still pretty new to the site we hadn't noticed it before but it's something we will watch out for with more expensive properties in future!
Overall though a lovely 2 nights in a beautiful part of the world - we hope to visit again and would thoroughly recommend it to others!
Casa genial!!! Todo perfecto, muy agradable!! Experiencia muy recomendable!!!
An impeccable house or chalet in a tiny, tiny town in Rioja. Well equipped and modern furniture make it a dream place for a long weekend or a summer vacation.
We were a few people together and the house is fantastic for gatherings of friends to enjoy food, wine and Spain!
