The Space

Dukuh VIllage Homestay is part of a charming Balinese compound just outside a small village 6kms north of Ubud, Bali. It is run by Made Arka, a fine traditional and modern artist, and his wife Rinin. ( live on the same land and assist the family with their correspondence and hospitality.)
The genuine family atmosphere, peaceful rural setting and traveller- friendly facilities make this a unique accommodation. Many guests stay longer than they planned, and come to think of this as their 'home' in Bali.

The Backpacker room is the cheapest of the accommodation options at the Homestay, with a double bed, own bathroom (hot shower and western style WC). The room opens out to a small terrace with a lovely west facing view of ricefields and trees.

This is a traditional family home, so guests can feel they are in the 'real Bali', with the extended family activities of ritual offerings, tending the land and animals going on around. Guests are welcome to participate in cooking, going to market, learning how to make traditional offerings and so on. Painting classes from Made Arka are available by arrangement.

Homestay has wifi, a small lending library, off road parking for motorbikes (not cars). There is a swimming pool at a nearby resort that guests can use for 5 $ or if they buy coffee/snacks.

The Homestay is self-catering, apart from Balinese style breakfast. Guests staying in this room can share use of the adjacent family kitchen. A wide variety of good food and supplies is available in Ubud, as well as a 'night market' about 3kms away with delicious and cheap local food.

(NB: In response to some guest's suggestions, the adjoining wall to the kitchen has recently been upgraded to minimise any noise from family activity in the kitchen- however we do suggest that the Backpacker room is still most appropriate for early risers.)

There is no public transport in the area but reasonably priced local drivers can be engaged for drop off and pick up from Ubud centre or customised tours and day trips.. Guests' own motorbike or car rental can be arranged,

Guest Access

Bali authentic holiday, located homestay rice terrace and forest, we are a Balinese family who have opened our traditional family compound to guests from other countries. (This rest of this profile is written by an English speaking friend of the family, so it is about them.. not written as 'i')

The excellent location of this family homestay is one of the main reasons guests first choose it- it is a beautiful, rural area just north of busy Ubud. Then people realise that the real treasure is the family who run it.
The father of the family is Made Arka. He is a well known Balinese artist, and still teaches art classes from home as well as at ARMA museum in central Ubud. He has visited Australia for an exhibition of his paintings and is well educated and open minded- he loves to learn about other countries .

The mother of the family is Nyoman Rinin. She worked for many years in hotels in Ubud, so she understands how to look after guests well. They can both speak English and like to share Balinese culture with their guests, either by chatting on the shared verandahs or by taking people on tours around the island.
They are genuinely kind and honest people. Staying at Dukuh VIllage Homestay with them is a real insight into Balinese family life, while having comforts like hot water and wifi.
