Sow's Ear is a friendly, comfortable home base across the river from Bucktail put-in. 1 minute walk to the Trinity River, end of the road serenity, full use of our river frontage & hot tub. Just added a new, super-comfortable North Woods couch and chair and they just make the living room. Adult-sized cots, too!

There is a full laundry, cozy woodstove & furnace. Linens, towels, cleaning supplies, firewood included. Great covered front porch affords a bit of a river view and lovely river sounds.

Sow’s Ear is such a complete experience of the wondrous Trinity mountain life. The homey decor and the plush seating with the beautiful view and deer right outside the picture windows. The serene mountain setting and fresh air on the spacious covered porch with the sounds and vie…

And we hope you are back soon! I still have to introduce Isaac(k?) to the fire pump and the chainsaw was ready and waiting, too. I'm sure Brenda will have her own dreams for us to accommodate when we meet next, although both kids are welcome to keep digging!

Heidi & Steph were very kind to us, and we really enjoyed the stay. They told us many of their great stories, they are very interesting people. the place is very great and next to the river, they taught us how to stand paddle, and they welcomed us to their own place. the house…

Gosh, Abdullah, you are as sweet and genuine in writing as in person. We were so impressed by you all. I promised to write about your stay with us in our newsletter and although I am delayed, it will happen. We're still dealing with the fires in ways not instantly tangible. They were remarkable and the changes in people's attitudes have been heartening. We're very fortunate to have avoided flames here and the beautiful riverfront you enjoyed is just as beautiful as before, but we're very sad for those who lost a lot and in some cases, everything. You take care and do well in school! heidi

Sow’s Ear was a blast. Arriving in the middle of July was a great time for all things water related! Kayaking the Trinity River, swimming in the Whiskeytown Lake were unbelievable. Wildlife just out the front door, or walking down the street with a “How you doing” glance. Heidi &…

It’s a cozy and quiet place. Very close to the river with deer everywhere. My family and i had a great time and found everything very clean and tidy I would definitely recommend this cabin to a friend.

Thanks so much, Trevor! You guys blew us away with how well you treated Sow's Ear and we hope you come back so we can meet you in person. Safe travels back to the Kenai (soon? My Alaska work usually started in May), heidi

The check-in was reasonable, and the owners were upfront about not having cell service upfront, which I greatly appreciated and the area has pristine beauty, that being said I felt very deceived on what I was reserving. After checking out, I felt a tad bit deceived and felt that …

Response from Heidi:
Corey, I have spent much of the day plunging toilets at Sow's Ear because after your stay, they backed up. The poo left all over the toilet bowl, lid and more of the main bath was my first indication a lot of toilet paper most likely went down in one very large mass and that caused the back-up. This caused us to lose a booking. Regarding your complaints, all I can say is READ THE DESCRIPTION. I write our copy for listings and never claimed Sow's Ear was a log cabin, even though much of the interior has been paneled in cool, old barnwood. This is the first part of our listing, at the very top: "Sow's Ear is a friendly, comfortable home base across the river from Bucktail put-in. 1 minute walk to the Trinity River, end of the road serenity, FULL USE OF OUR RIVER FRONTAGE & HOT TUB." (in caps for emphasis; more detail farther down as well because guests do tend to read what they want to read.) We have no control over what guests report and if one has questions, it is pretty easy to ask. Regarding Wi-Fi, Sow's Ear is on an incredibly fast independent system and the owner lives here and is a friend. ONE EMAIL AND HE'D HAVE BEEN RIGHT ON IT.

My husband, Steph Dutton, and I own and run Dunsmuir's Alpine Ski & Fish Haus and Trinity River Adventure Inn river cabins. Steph is the only person to paddle a kayak from Victoria, B.C. Canada to Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. I worked on tug boats before heading to Alas…
