Q. Do I have access to the Kitchen?
A. As a long term guest (one month or more) yes. However short term guests there are limits, you can make yourselves tea and coffee and we provide a shelf in the fridge for snacks, but no meal preparation please.
Q. Do you have pets?
A. Yes, we have two cats, each with their own completely different characters. Bertie Lou talks a lot, has the longest whiskers you have ever seen on a cat and runs to us like a dog when we return to the house. Tiger does not like to be held and runs if there is a strange or load noise. However if she likes you she will want to cuddle in bed, so we keep her out of the guest bedroom. If you have severe allergies to cats, we recommend that you do not book our guest room.
Q. Do we allow pets?
A. Mostly we love other peoples pets, but Bertie Lou, who is really in charge of the house says No. So No!
Q. What size is the bed?
A. Queen with a really comfortable Latex and cotton mattress and no formilderhide.

But just to get you salivating: Thai (a secret place with no signage on Belmont with the freshest produce ever); Vegan/Raw (Harlow's, a hoping place with great smoothies); Burgers (Dick's, with a "health" slant to the traditional menu); Pizza (The award winning Apizza Scholls) Ice cream (Salt and Straw, have a conversation ready there is always a line it is so good) Coffee (Many but Stump Town is just around the corner) Breakfast is the main sport in Portland and there are literally 100's of places to start the day.
Q. Access to Downtown?
A. Number 14 bus goes from the end of the Street every ten minutes and takes the same time to get there.
Q. What are your check in and check out times?

Q. Do you have WiFi?
A. Yes, we will give you the password when you come.

Interaction with Guests
We are both world travelers (and Beata speaks Spanish if that will help). We love to meet and get to know new people, but we both work and tend to be dashing out to classes in the evening, so the home is probably more suitable for the self sufficient traveler. However, we are always available to answer your questions so your stay in our home town is as good as it can be, just text if you can't find us personally when you have the question!
We are located in Richmond right between Hawthorne Blvd ( a neighborhood developed in the 1900's and 'D' Street, which is what Division is now called, since it's redevelopment with many new apartments. Both these neighborhoods and close by Clinton and Belmont are full of the best restaurants, coffee houses and small independent shops in Portland. between them they will give you the quintessential Portland experience.
Getting to us from the airport if you don't want to hire a car is easy for $2.00 you can catch the MAX light rail to the Hollywood Transit Center, then a 75 bus to Hawthorne and 39th, get off at Fred Meyers and walk east to 44th Ave
The bus to downtown runs along Hawthorne and comes every ten minutes and takes that long again to reach downtown.
Portland is really bike friendly and there are two good rental shops on Hawthorne, Veloce at 3202, Near the intersection of SE Hawthorne Blvd and SE 32nd Ave.

Clever Cycles (voted the best bike shop in Portland) at 900, Between SE 9th Ave and SE 10th Ave

Other Things to Note
Our house had its 100 birthday in 2012 but prior to that we upgraded the heating and cooling with a heat pump . For ourselves we tend to prefer to keep the heat at 65 degrees so we have placed a heater in the guest room so you have control of the heat in that room.
We supply towels for your use and soap, shampoo and a hair dryer.
Most of these have been covered previously and it just leaves a few points so that we are all on the same page.
No smoking in the house or on the front porch, if you need to smoke please go for a walk around the block.
Please don't bring other people into the house. This is for your safety as well as ours.
We are a no shoe household so please take off your outdoor shoes when you enter. We do supply as basket full of big socks for guests use but you may want to pack your own.
Carmen cleans meticulously you will see but please help her and us by tidying up after yourselves and leaving the place for other guests as you would like to find it.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Beata & Michael.
The room was clean, neat and quiet and the location of the house was convenient for a seminar we were attending.
Our hosts also helped with restaurant suggestions.
A very pleasurable experience.
Beata and Michael's guest room was perfect. They are lovely people, very easy and friendly. The bed was comfortable and all was nicely decorated and renovated, especially the bathroom. Their home sits on a quiet street only 2 blocks from Hawthorne which has many places to eat, a movie theater, a satellite of Powell's Books, shopping, all within walking distance. We had a great stay and recommend the excellent accommodations and the welcoming hosts.
Michael and Beata were very hospitable. The house was lovely, comfortable and peaceful. Thank you for a great stay.
What a wonderful experience. The room and home were not just beautiful, but comfortable. Our hosts were kind and very responsive, with great suggestions of where to eat and a huge selection of teas we could make. I was feeling under the weather when I arrived and they were so welcoming. We will definitely stay again the next time we need a place in portland.
Staying here was truly delightful! Michael and Beata are lovely, and the artifacts of their world travels are elegantly displayed throughout their gorgeous house! The commercial area along Hawthorn is just 1 1/2 blocks away and is just the kind of coolness that I wanted to see in Portland.
Beata and Michael were great hosts, very nice people. Their house is beautiful and very clean. Our room and bathroom were lovely, and the bed was super comfy. I would definitely recommend staying with them to anyone.
