Perfect combination of family homestay and personal privacy - this three-room suite is part of, yet separate from, our warm and welcoming family home. Walkable and desirable neighborhood close to UC Berkeley and famous restaurants.
Cozy sitting room and library - you can see the SF bay from the stripy chair. Also overlooks our sweet backyard.
Bedroom suite available in Gourmet Ghetto neighborhood of North Berkeley. Very private spacious bedroom with queen sized bed, closet, desk, and dresser. Guests also have private access to adjoining sitting room and bathroom.
This room gets great light from South facing wall and is decorated with tasteful tiki details and exotic musical instruments. Sitting room provides a partial Bay view. Room is located on the ground floor of a two story well kept and neat Berkeley home shared by a local and home-grown family of 4 (couple with a charming 5 year old and hilarious and jubilant 3 year old). Family bedrooms and bathroom are all on the top floor so this is a very private setup.
Home is located blocks from famous California cuisine restaurants such as Chez Panisse, The Cheese Board, Saul's Deli, and Cesar. It's an easy 1 mile walk or a short bus ride to the BART station, giving access to San Francisco and the greater Bay Area, and less than a mile to the UC Berkeley Campus. And it's just a 5 minute walk up the hill to Berkeley's famous Rose Garden - the perfect place to watch the sun set over the bay. We are also in walking distance to the Greek Theater - although it's uphill and a bit of a hike.
Host was born and raised in Berkeley and would be delighted to serve as tour guide, concierge, or merely unintrusive innkeeper, depending on what is desired.
We have one small cat, but we keep the guest room very clean so those with minor allergies may be accommodated.
Kitchen, dining room and living room (in addition to suite with private bathroom). Breakfast is provided but is self serve. We usually have bananas, milk, oatmeal, bread, and eggs. And coffee and tea, of course!
Other Things to Note
When booking, please do not just make a request through the site without a personal message. We need to have some sort of interaction with the people who will be staying with us before we accept. After all, you're going to be staying in our home!
Please note that we do not take bookings more than 3 months in advance. We just don't know our schedule that far out and don't want to commit to hosting if we can't be sure we'll be around.
Be cool and enjoy your stay! No late parties, smoking inside the house, or other things that are obviously inconsiderate. We're pretty chill apart from that.
Oh and please don't put your drink on the marimba, as the moisture will damage the keys. That's pretty much the only thing a normal person might do that wouldn't be good.
My sister and I had an absolutely wonderful stay in Shoshana and Tim's home. They were friendly and very accommodating in every way, including being flexible with my early arrival time. The suite is lovely, very comfortable, and a perfect home base for exploring Berkeley and walking to events on campus. The beautiful bay view from the sitting area was the icing on the cake, and I would certainly book here again!
We enjoyed our stay at Shoshana`s. Her home was the perfect location for our goal of experiencing Berkeley's food scene. It was nice to meet her family and our private suite was very comfortable.
We had a great time at Shoshana's. The bedroom with a separate sitting room was pleasant and private. It's a very convenient location for accessing the town and the University. Her family is welcoming with 2 cute little boys. We would love to stay there again on our next trip.
The host made me feel welcome in a number of ways. She was there to greet me upon my arrival and essential offered up the main floor of the house. I was welcomed to join them for wine and conversation, offered the contents of the fridge on condition I restock what I took and so on.
The reservation was canceled 87 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Just as described. Shoshana and her family were delightful, welcoming, accommodating and interesting people. Making my idiosyncratic breakfast one morning I asked, "do you have a lemon?", Shoshana disappeared and returned moments later with three Meyer lemons freshly picked from the tree in her backyard, delicious!
Great views, and only 7 minute walk to Chez Panisse.
Thank you Shoshana!
My stay was absolutely excellent. the accommodations were comfortable, spacious, spotless, and interesting -- books, a marimba, art, views, unique decorations such as the gong you see in this photo and on the opposite wall masks. Shoshana and her family are warm and welcoming but not intrusive; they provide a key to the front door so that the guest may come and go at will. I look forward to returning.
The neighborhood is residential and quiet. It's on the hillside, three blocks up from flat land where there are stores and restaurants galore.
