Kay was very welcoming. She is in a great location. Her home is really closes to a trail used for running, biking and walking. I would definitely stay here again. The only drawback was out of Kay's control. I had a hard time making dinner at night because the kitchen is outside and the bugs were eating me alive :) Make sure to pack/buy some bug spray to spray on after a day at the beach.
The overall experience wasn't very pleasant for us. We knew the kitchen and living room area would be outside, and we expected some insects. BUT, we didn't know there's a whole family of geckos coming, on the walls, floor, tables, sofa, everywhere. Especially above the stove on the racks and where the cooking-wares are stowed, which didn't seem hygienic. Emailed Kay regarding the matter, no solution or concerns received("sorry but I have no secret weapon" was the exact wording).
However, if you don't mind the uninvited guests at all, or if you don't need to use the kitchen, then you would probably enjoy this studio a lot. Though needs to be updated(i.e. the mosquito door net is scratched), it's centrally located, very easy to get around. And we appreciated the use of beach towels and beach gears!
Kay was very welcoming. But when we reached, she was in a bit of a hurry. We were actually planning on asking her about a couple of places that we should go snorkeling and the beaches that have parking etc. However, that was not much of an issue. The place is nice, it's not too far away from the beaches, but I think in the near future it could do with an upgrade.
Kay was a great host! While we only got to speak a handful of times, she was very accommodating and friendly. The space was just the right size for me (who is planning on spending time inside anyway? Remember you are in Hawaii!) and the price was right. Even though it is a little close to Hwy 11, the sound was not loud as there is plenty of vegetation to absorb that. The location is perfect: right in between Kona Town and other South Kona attractions (Keauhou, White Sands Beach, Pu'uhonua o Honaunau, Kealakekua Bay, etc.). The neighbors are also extremely friendly and I'm glad I was able to meet them!
I will definitely plan on staying again; thanks Kay!
Kay was kind enough to greet us upon arrival even though it was late at night, right away we noticed the Aloha we came to the island for. Room was cozy and just as described. The bed is comfortable, the private lanai is cute, and we especially appreciated use of the snorkel gear and towels. Amazing value for the price, we would come back. The dog was very nice (Spot).
Kay was the BEST at making us feel at home! We really needed assistance and she was there with whatever we needed. The accommodations were clean and cozy. The lower level room was very cool with the fan. GREAT value.
