Front door leading from front porch. Front porch is a great place to hang out under our 200 year old White Oak Tree.
Brand new three bedroom house lovingly created from a 1909 vintage Craftsman bungalow. My home has many special details that I carefully designed into the house to recreate the craftsman style. The two guest bedrooms/1 bath upstairs is spacious and provides great privacy from the rest of the house's living space. I am retired and moved to Portland from Alaska where I operated a successful Bed and Breakfast for many years. My home is two blocks west of 13th Avenue, an area that boasts several restaurants, specialty shops, a public library, and a New Seasons grocery store. The Springwater bike corridor is three blocks away and a Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge four blocks walk. Convenient bus service to all parts of the city is another three blocks away.
Please let me know in advance if you need more than one bed as the second bedroom is set up as a sitting room, but can easily be converted to a second bedroom/bed.
I love having guests in my house! You are welcome to share my living space, including my kitchen.
Jim was very pleasant and had a nice, very quiet place. Very new and in excellent condition. We enjoyed our stay and would love to return at some point.
Jim was a wonderful host to me and my friend Allison. He made us feel immediately welcome. He is soft-spoken, kind, and full of great suggestions. He's happy to talk about his many amazing life experiences, and he is also an amazing baker! His dog Nya is an absolute sweet heart.
His home is absolutely beautiful... as great as his photos are, they don't do it justice! The rooms and bathroom were nice and comfortable. His neighborhood is quiet and beautiful, with old trees and homes with lots of personality. We visited a bar/restaurant down the street called the Muddy Rudder and enjoyed some great live music with a quiet, relaxed atmosphere.
This was my first Airbnb experience, and it was amazing. I would definitely do it again, and I'd definitely stay with Jim again if I'm ever in Portland again.
Jim made sure we knew where things were and basically turned the kitchen over to us, along with the entire upstairs (which is as advertised). He was available during enough of our stay to offer good advice about the neighborhood when asked. The home is lovely and the neighborhood was a new part of Portland for us. We will definitely return.
Jim is an exceptional host, just like everybody else has mentioned. He's a genuine, nice guy and his house is fantastic and is in a great neighborhood. I stayed here for multiple weeks and was quite comfortable with the two rooms and my own bathroom. You won't find a deal like this on Airbnb or elsewhere very often. Thanks Jim!
This was another enjoyable stay for us at Jim's home with the usual pleasant conversation and comfortable accommodations.
My partner and I stayed with Jim for our very first visit to the Portland area, and we definitely recommend him! Jim is very kind and hospitality seems to come naturally to him. Our very first morning, he had french pressed coffee and homemade zucchini bread waiting for us when we woke up. He was quick to help when we needed local knowledge of the area. And what I loved most was just cooking in the kitchen with him and just chatting about life. Jim has some really interesting hobbies and past experiences; he's a lot of fun to talk to.
The room we stayed in was really nice and private. The way his house is set up, you have the whole upstairs to yourself. We had a bedroom and also a living room we could use if we just wanted to watch a movie and chill. Jims house is also very beautiful with its wood accents and artifacts from his time in Alaska. It's comfortable being there and feels like home. (The heated kitchen floors were a plus!)
We had a fantastic time on our trip! Thanks, Jim!
We enjoyed it a lot. Jim was a very gentle and nice person. The place was clean and neighborhood was quiet and secured. It looks like newly remodeled house. There were many restaurants, retail stores, and local beer pubs in walk distance.
I am a retired biologist that worked for the federal government for 35 years in several locations throughout the U.S., most recently in Alaska. I moved to Portland three years ago and now call this home. I have many interests that tend to take advantage of the beautiful state I live in, including skiing, hiking, biking, and camping.
