Description

The space

Brand new three bedroom house lovingly created from a 1909 vintage Craftsman bungalow. My home has many special details that I carefully designed into the house to recreate the craftsman style. The two guest bedrooms and bath upstairs is spacious and provides great privacy from the rest of the house's living space. I am retired and moved to Portland from Alaska where I operated a successful Bed and Breakfast for many years. My home is two blocks west of 13th Avenue, an area that boasts several restaurants, specialty shops, a public library, and a New Seasons grocery store. The Springwater bike corridor is three blocks away and a Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge four blocks walk. Convenient bus service to all parts of the city is another three blocks away.

Please let me know in advance if you need more than one bed as the second bedroom is set up as a sitting room, but can easily be converted to a second bedroom/bed.

Guest access

Guests will have access to a private suite of rooms on the 2nd floor. They may also use the kitchen and lower living room if they wish. The only part of the house not available to guests is the master suite/bathroom in the back of the house on the first floor.

Jim's home was excellent and he is a fantastic host. The home is close to great shops, places to eat, and sights to see. It's a mile from a central shopping district and half-mile from a gorgeous lake and trails.

Immaculate private space upstairs in Jim's beautiful house. We enjoyed walking through the neighborhood to the coffee shops a few blocks away, and the location was perfect to visit Reed and Lewis & Clark Colleges.

You will enjoy your stay on the second floor of this beautifully constructed, clean, tight home. You will appreciate the comfortable bed in a light, high-ceiling room, well equipped with lamps for reading with a huge closet, the adjacent sitting room and TV (futon becomes a bed, if necessary), and a clean, perfectly functioning bathroom with tub (and an exquisite oval window). Jim is very relaxed and welcoming, and his beautiful retired sled dog is peace incarnate. You must walk around this neighborhood! The house is a couple of blocks from the Sellwood "commercial" center of restaurants, pubs, coffee houses, food truck "pods," food markets, banks, library, dispensary, etc., but walk the neighborhood streets to see wonderful homes and landscaping. To appreciate the characteristic "soul" of Sellwood, walk 8 minutes south on 9th street SE to the corner with Sherritt Ave.

It's a really good place to stay, I got the whole 2nd floor which includes the private bedroom, a bathroom, and a small living room. It's around 15 to 20 mins drive from downtown and there's a walking distance food trucks and market from the house. Would really love to stay here again next time!

This was a very pleasant stay for my husband, toddler, and me. The location is great for a quick hop over to downtown, and yet is still nestled into a quaint neighborhood with its own personality and shops. Jim was very friendly and accommodating. We had all the privacy and space that we needed and enjoyed our stay very much!

Jim's house is a beautiful home nestled in the historic Sellwood district. We enjoyed walking to breakfast and coffee in the mornings. Jim's place is easily accessible and a great value. We even fell in love with his "home greeter," Naia, who is a calm and welcoming pup. We hope to stay with Jim in the future.

Jim User ProfileJim is a superhost.

I am a retired biologist that worked for the federal government for 35 years in several locations throughout the U.S., most recently in Alaska. I moved to Portland six years ago and now call this home. I have many interests that tend to take advantage of the beautiful state I live in, including skiing, hiking, biking, and camping.
