Bedroom in historic mansion

Apartment - Private room · Rue Trésoriers de la Bourse, Montpellier, Languedoc-Roussillon 34000, France

The Space

This is a large (17 m2), bright, semi-independent room, located on the second floor of one of the most renowned mansion houses of Montpellier, built around the 16th century in the very centre of the oldest part of town. The listed building has a private paved courtyard in front and a classical French formal garden in the back, probably the largest and the most beautiful of its kind in Montpellier. The whole historical centre of Montpellier (the "Ecusson") is pedestrian, but there is an underground car park nearby. The railway station is 8 min away walking distance, the tram 3 min away. The shops (including a traditional food market) are a few meters away. There is a lot of day and night life around (restaurants, terraces, etc.), but no noise comes to the room. The shared apartment allows everybody to have a private independent life: the entrance room gives direct access to the room. A corridor (used by servants in the past centuries) gives access to the bathroom and to the kitchen, which are the only shared rooms. The rent is all-inclusive and there is wifi access.

  • Bernard is an amazing host and I have had a truly fantastic six months with him and his wife Terri as hosts. The minute I arrived I felt at home and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Their home is welcoming, their manner warm, their life inspiring - just fantastic.

  • I spent one week there. The location is GREAT, right in the middle of Montpellier. The building is beautiful, very impressive from the outside. The apartment is nice, with lots of bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen. There's room for your food in the fridge and you can use the washing machine if you want. There were 4 other guests while I was there, but everybody does their own thing and respect each other. I definitely recommend Bernard's place.

J'ai passé une très bonne semaine dans l'appartement de Bernard. Un très joli lieu, super bien placé, en plein centre de Montpellier. Vous ne le regretterez pas!

  • Bernard, Terri, and their family are extraordinarily welcoming and kind. The house is beautiful and located right in the middle of the center of Montpellier. Beyond offering their wonderful home, which was immaculately clean and well appointed, they had great recommendations for Montpellier and the surrounding area. I cannot recommend it enough!

  • Bernard and Terri were wonderful hosts. They were available when I arrived to Montpellier and greeted me when I arrived. Their expectations were clear from the time of my arrival, thus making the stay pleasant and straightforward.

The flat is wonderfully set up to allow privacy for guests and hosts. The kitchen and bathroom can be accessed from the guest bedroom through an old servant's passageway. The room was very clean, comfortable, and well decorated with a large window onto one of two beautiful inner courtyards.

The room was quiet and cool day and night. Throughout the hot days the old stone kept the room pleasantly cool. I slept each night with the large windows open and was not disturbed by any noise.

My stay was amazing and I am very happy I chose to stay with Bernard and Terri!

Thank you for sharing your home with me.

  • It was a pleasure to meet Bernard and Terri, who are very friendly, open minded and welcoming. I had a very nice and independent time in their beautiful apartment, located in an amazing and old building right in the middle of the centre. A nice little market and lots of bars and shops are very close. My room was lovely, clean and comfortable, a place I can really recommend.

  • Lovely room in a lovely apartment in an absolutely stunning building in the historical centre. (So historic that tour groups actually pass through the courtyard from time to time!) Bernard and Terri were very welcoming. I'd definitely recommend this apartment to anybody who wants to visit Montpellier.

About
I am French, I used to be a graphic designer and am now in charge of international development for a small hi-tech company in Paris, which means I travel abroad often. My wife Terri is British, she teaches English in different universities in Montpellier, We are both in our late fifties, and have six children between ourselves (Terri three daughters and one son, myself two daughters), all living abroad. We love cooking (and arguing about French and British approaches to it), going to the arts cinema in Montpellier and discovering more delicious wines of the area.
