  • Unfortunately, we missed Gemma at the train station of Vernazza. She was friendly when we finally reached her, although a bit in a hurry. The room and bath room were basic, but a good starting point for our discovery of the Cinque Terre.

  • Vernazza was definitely our favorite of the 5 towns; very peaceful and quaint. Even though we stayed in late September, the weather was still warm enough to enjoy the beach (water was cold but tolerable) but cool enough to make the hike enjoyable. We took the more difficult trail from Manorola to Corniglia (as the Lover's Walk is still closed there) and were not disappointed - the views are well worth the effort. We recommend the bar on the path up to Corniglia for wonderful views and bruscetta; The Blue Marlin for your morning espresso; the bakery for breakfast and the pizza place at the end of the pier for great "take away".

Gemma's room was perfectly situated; a little ways back off the main road with a bright yellow mailbox and green door so you never forget which one is yours! Sure, there are a lot of steps but that's true of everywhere in Italy. We used our hiking packs so it wasn't really an issue. The bed is a little on the firm side and the bathroom is pretty tight but we found this to also be true of most places we stayed in Italy. The ability to hang clothes from the window was nice for our beachwear and some light laundry. There's also a small closet so you can unpack and really make yourself at home. It was plenty quiet at night there was a small fan in the room for my husband who likes to be cool at night - I thought the temperature was jus fine.

Gemma was very accommodating. Our train was late which resulted in us being late to meet her. She was understanding and cheerful. There was a bit of a language barrier as we know next to no Italian but Gemma was patient with us. We had planned to stay 3 nights but decided to stay an extra night after falling in love with the area. Gemma made the arrangements so easy. She made up our room every day (which we were not expecting) and brought us fresh towels.

We highly recommend staying in one of Gemma's rooms if you find yourself in Vernazza - which you should.

  • We loved our stay with Gemmy. She met us at the train station late in the evening and was very nice to work with. Her rooms were very clean and nicely decorated. Highly recommended!

  • Gemma was very kind to meet us at the train station and lead us to her place. It's almost a must in Vernazza since it is very hard to navigate the tiny streets the first time. The room is simple, clean, it comes with a small bathroom and shelving unit. It is actually smaller than what it looks on pictures but it's enough for 2-3 people for a few days. It has a window rack for drying the clothes, two windows, it offers views of small streets (no sea view) it has a small table and chairs. There was no kitchen or Internet in this room but room above us had a terrace and kitchen. Overall we were happy with Gemma and her room for rent.

  • Great quiet little room in Vernazza. As the town is so small, location was not a problem. There are a few stairs and alleys getting to the apartment but luckily we bumped into her son who kindly helped us with our luggage.

  • Our stay with Gemma in Cinque Terre was ideal and one of the highlights of our trip! Vernazza was, for us, the most quaint and convenient town to stay in. We took a canoe to Monterosso on day one, walked to Corniglia day 2 and completed our trip by doing the walk to Monterosso day 3. Unfortunately the 2 other hikes were closed during our stay but train access was easy between the towns. Gemma's apartment was so close to the station and she was accommodating with arrival and departure times. Communication was manageable and Gemma was quick to answer her phone or to be made available if needed. We actually were moved to another room given the water in Bedroom 1 was not working, however the room in which we stayed appeared almost identical to the one we expected. It was small but all that was needed for our stay. Great seafood restaurant on the dock and be sure to grab a beer and relax on the rocks by the water as the sun goes down. You'll love Vernazza and your stay with Gemma...Bec & Dan ;)

  • Really great location, very close to train station. Clean room, lovely vibe to the apartment. Gemma was very helpful, meeting us at the train station to walk us to the apartment. We found the bed a little bit hard, but otherwise really great :) Thanks for having us!

  • Gemma was such a sweet host!
We enjoyed our stay in Vernazza a lot.
We stayed at bedroom 1 for four nights. It is a cozy room - just as it is presented in the description.
After that we had the opportunity to change rooms and used the room with the rooftop terrace which offered a beautiful view over picturesque Vernazza and right across the sea. We also appreciated that Gemma was very helpful with hints (concerning the shops/weather/...) and she was always worried that we felt comfortable at her place! Thank you for making our stay in Cinque Terre special, Gemma! (:
