Solemagia rents 1 double bedrooms placed on independent building in Via del Santo, the central Carugio of Vernazza, 2 minutes from sea and railstation and right at the start of the hiking trail in Cinque Terre.
Tastefully decorated with great attention to detail, rooms are all colored and are equipped with all facilities.
At the top floor there is the common area and terrace where you can spend pleasant hours with a magnificent view over the village.
The room we rented from Gemma was in the perfect location. The room itself was just as pictured. Small but large enough to suit our needs. There was a place where we could hang our clothing and set our backpacks/luggage. The private bathroom was great to have in the room. The bed was very firm and you could feel a spring or two (not what we are accustomed too, but still suitable for a short stay) Vernazza is such a beautiful and charming town. Gemmy is a warm and inviting host.
Unfortunately, we missed Gemma at the train station of Vernazza. She was friendly when we finally reached her, although a bit in a hurry. The room and bath room were basic, but a good starting point for our discovery of the Cinque Terre.
Vernazza was definitely our favorite of the 5 towns; very peaceful and quaint. Even though we stayed in late September, the weather was still warm enough to enjoy the beach (water was cold but tolerable) but cool enough to make the hike enjoyable. We took the more difficult trail from Manorola to Corniglia (as the Lover's Walk is still closed there) and were not disappointed - the views are well worth the effort. We recommend the bar on the path up to Corniglia for wonderful views and bruscetta; The Blue Marlin for your morning espresso; the bakery for breakfast and the pizza place at the end of the pier for great "take away".
Gemma's room was perfectly situated; a little ways back off the main road with a bright yellow mailbox and green door so you never forget which one is yours! Sure, there are a lot of steps but that's true of everywhere in Italy. We used our hiking packs so it wasn't really an issue. The bed is a little on the firm side and the bathroom is pretty tight but we found this to also be true of most places we stayed in Italy. The ability to hang clothes from the window was nice for our beachwear and some light laundry. There's also a small closet so you can unpack and really make yourself at home. It was plenty quiet at night there was a small fan in the room for my husband who likes to be cool at night - I thought the temperature was jus fine.
Gemma was very accommodating. Our train was late which resulted in us being late to meet her. She was understanding and cheerful. There was a bit of a language barrier as we know next to no Italian but Gemma was patient with us. We had planned to stay 3 nights but decided to stay an extra night after falling in love with the area. Gemma made the arrangements so easy. She made up our room every day (which we were not expecting) and brought us fresh towels.
We highly recommend staying in one of Gemma's rooms if you find yourself in Vernazza - which you should.
We loved our stay with Gemmy. She met us at the train station late in the evening and was very nice to work with. Her rooms were very clean and nicely decorated. Highly recommended!
Gemma was very kind to meet us at the train station and lead us to her place. It's almost a must in Vernazza since it is very hard to navigate the tiny streets the first time. The room is simple, clean, it comes with a small bathroom and shelving unit. It is actually smaller than what it looks on pictures but it's enough for 2-3 people for a few days. It has a window rack for drying the clothes, two windows, it offers views of small streets (no sea view) it has a small table and chairs. There was no kitchen or Internet in this room but room above us had a terrace and kitchen. Overall we were happy with Gemma and her room for rent.
