Hero’s Rest is a retro 1964 duplex built to house NASA staff during the Moon mission! Humble and full of charm, it features a queen bedroom, a sleep-out with bunks, and a king-size daybed. Relax on the shady front deck under a giant Kigelia tree. Just minutes from shops, bars, playground and Town Beach. It’s old – think beach shack chic – but comfy, clean, and full of heart.

The space
The main bedroom at the front of the house features a queen bed with soft, quality cotton sheets.

At the back of the duplex is a sleep-out with a bunk bed and a daybed that pulls out to a comfy king. These sleeping spaces share the open plan living area – simple, spacious, and laid-back.

The large front deck is shaded by a magnificent Kigelia Africana (Sausage Tree), known for its huge nocturnal flowers and quirky seed pods – once said to feed hippos (don’t worry, none in Carnarvon!). Some call it the G&T tree – we’ll let you decide why.

This is my home, and I love it. It’s rough-cut and far from perfect, but it’s honest, comfortable, and full of character. I’m delighted you may call it home while you’re passing through your journey.

It really is Hero’s Rest – I wish you a peaceful and relaxing stay.

Guest access
Guests enter via the main gate on the 3B side of the duplex.

There is secure parking for boats or caravans at the rear of the property, behind a locked gate. The key for this gate is located in the same lockbox as the front door key.

Please note: the backyard area is for parking only and is not part of the listing for use as a recreational or gathering space.

Other things to note
This is an old house with a big heart – and a few wrinkles. If you’ve only ever stayed in freshly built villas or sterile hotel rooms, Hero’s Rest might come as a shock.

The bathroom is original 1960s (yep, still kickin’), and while I’m slowly upgrading things, I focus on keeping the place clean, comfy, and full of good vibes.

The yard? It has a mind of its own. Sometimes it’s lush and lovely, other times it’s a bit wild – kind of like Carnarvon itself.

Come with an open mind, and you’ll settle right in.

Neighborhood highlights

Hero’s Rest is one half of a duplex. It is possible to book both ‘Hero’s Rest and the Pirate Place together. The duplex shares one large deck underneath a beautiful cool tree. It also shares access into the property.

This duplex is serene, a great place to stay for a few days to rest and recharge from long journeys, a one night stop over, or a perfect place to reside if you’re on a short contract in Carnarvon, Western Australia

Some guests have been shocked by the neighbourhood of old houses, by the duplex being old and in disrepair! Despite this, my place is in a good location in Carnarvon, is surrounded by a neighbourhood of GOOD people, is comfortable, clean and has a new kitchen, but an old bathroom with great hot water pressure.

If you’re after high end class there are other great places to stay along the Fascine… but my place is safe, is loved, is comfortable, affordable and pet friendly.
