This is a slightly unusual space, being private and excellent value for money. It's a self-contained studio in a group of offices and small commercial units that I manage. The space was set up for staying in for odd nights when my partner or I are working late, and don't fancy the commute home; we also use it as a room for informal meetings. I've just refurbished it completely and bought all new furniture, so it's a comfortable setup, and we'd like to offer it to the airbnb community as a really good value accommodation option.
The main room is a studio space, fitted out with a leather armchair and double sofa bed that can sleep two. There is a wardrobe storage space with hangers and a small chest of drawers. Up top is a further loft-style single bed, bringing the maximum number of guests up to 3. All bedding, towels and a hairdryer are included.
There's a desk space, with an LCD TV mounted on the wall. The space also has a desktop computer (running Windows 7) that you're free to use, the LCD doubles up as a monitor. It's got a webcam (if you want to use your favourite messenging client) and is hooked up to a fairly large media library for films, TV shows and music. You can also play DVDs or media from a USB drive, and you also have access to my Netflix account for streaming movies on demand. There's a separate iPod dock for your music. Wired and wireless internet.
The small galley kitchen boasts a kettle, toaster and microwave with grill. There's also a washing machine. There's a large fridge / freezer. The bathroom is private and self-contained, with toilet, basin and shower.
In terms of location, we are about 5 minutes walk from Bow Road tube station (District Line, zone 2) and Bow Church DLR station. Buses (25, 8, 205) stop right outside the door, and run mostly 24 hours a day. The Olympic site is less than 10 minutes walk away, so this is an ideal low-cost base for exploring that part of London. The City of London is accessible within ten minutes, and the West End can be reached within half an hour. If you're bringing a vehicle, we have off-street parking that can be arranged for a nominal charge. There are also direct buses from Stansted Airport that stop right outside, with a journey time of about 45 minutes door-to-door. City Airport is even closer,
Bow Road itself is a main road, with a variety of amenities. Although this is a commercial building, the neighbourhood has a variety of amenities. There are grocery shops, restaurants (including McDonalds), churches, pharmacies and fast food places in the immediate vicinity.
The studio is extremely secure, as we also take the security of our commercial tenants seriously. The entrance and outside areas of the building is fully floodlit and under 24-hour CCTV surveillance. The steel-framed windows of the studio are further secured with steel security grilles. There is a caretaker who resides on-site to keep a general eye on things. There's also a large police station approximately 300 metres away, and the depot for police vehicles is less than 50 metres from the entrance to our site. We even have several police officers who park their personal vehicles in our car park while they are on duty - so security is generally pretty good.
I'll point out ahead of time that this is in a commercial building, and people do start coming to work fairly early in the morning. It's all small businesses and artists' studios on site, so not heavy industry, but if you're looking for complete peace and silence, then this might not be the right space for you. If you're after a clean, private, low-cost option, then this is an excellent option.
If any of my guests have issues, then please tell me at the time! That way I can do something about it, don't just make criticism in the comments after the event! I'm also a bit baffled by guests complaining about things that are clearly in the property description - I've described the space as best and as honestly as I can, and I'll also answer any further questions with complete honesty, just pop me an email.
Standard check in time is after 2.00 PM, and check out time by 11.00 AM. However, we can be flexible depending on whether there are guests staying either side, so if you want to arrive earlier or leave later, just ask! I do not charge additional cleaning fees or damage deposit above the regular price.
Good apartment, nice location, very close to metro, restaurants and some makets. Very nice to spend the weekend
The apartment has everything that is visible on the pictures but appears smaller and rather worn. Also a heads up for any asthmatics, the floor with the single bed is carpeted. Several adapter plugs are available as well as warm blankets - which we needed because the heater broke on our second evening. We called Peter James and shortly after the caretaker brought a replacement heater and fixed the problem the next day.
The transport connection is good with the subway and DLR just minutes by foot and a bus stop in front of the building. There's also a supermarket a short walk away. During our stay occured some construction work that was quite loud but otherwise noise wasn't a problem (note that we stayed from Friday evening to Monday Noon).
One thing that did bother us and was met with no understanding from Peter James: The walls around the window are mouldy.
I wouldn't say our stay was awful but I wouldn't book the apartment again.
Having never stayed in London before on this sort of budget I didn't really know what to expect, and I don't think it's something I'd do again. We probably had a slightly worse time of it than normal as there was pretty permanent construction going on outside, but the area was noisy late into the night (not just people arriving early to work, which we expected) and there was very very limited natural light throughout the flat, which made the whole thing a bit claustrophobic. The tube is easily accessible but the immediate approach to the property, down an alleyway, is a little daunting on your own. The sofa bed was not comfortable but the flat was clean, the internet was fast and the desk space handy.
I didn't meet Peter but he was very communicative and helpful, sorting out an issue I had with the shower quickly. The building's caretaker is also very nice. If you're after a short term place to sleep on a budget whilst exploring London this is probably fine; you get what you pay for.
We had a great stay. Peter was a really good host and was very flexible with times. We arrived early but he accommodated us really well. He explained everything about the flat and gave us tips for the area after asking about our evening plans and made us feel very welcome. The flat is exactly as described. It is very good value and has good travel connections. It's very easy to reach from Bow Road or Bow Church, being on the same street. Definitely recommend it for a good value, clean and safe night's stay. Thanks again!
Everything was very nice. It is perfect for two people who want to visit the city!
Very nice stay, the check in and out by ourselves is very easy and handful ! Close to subway, DLR, Bus and a Macdonald ^^
We had a very good stay at Peter's place. He gave very good intsructions on how to find the place, and the keys, and it was therefore very easy and hassle free to find. The flat inside is fine, and has everything you need. However, in winter it can get quite cold in there, as there are only two small electric heaters, and the windows are not double glazed. Apart from that we were very happy with everything, such as transport links, both during day and night, and the noise in the morning is not very disturbing. We would definitely reccomemnd this place.
Studio is fair priced in comparison what's in the package. Peter is great host. We had some Wi-Fi slowdown issue which was solved promptly. Fully professional. The place is in a walking distance to the Tube/DLR and a couple of stations to the centre.
El apartamento esta limpió y en una zona tranquila, cerca de la estación de Bow Road, al lado hay un Mc Donals y yendo al metro hay un fast food de kebabs y hamburguesas muy barato y bueno. En general la estancia ha sido buena.
