Stay in a spacious, light-filled loft above The Edge Gallery and working artists’ studios in Downtown Wilson. This renovated 1,600-sf space combines original heart-pine floors and century-old character with contemporary design, original art, a marble embellished kitchen, and a European-style bathroom.

Walk to Whirligig Park, Wilson Warbirds baseball stadium, Wilson Arts, downtown restaurants, breweries, galleries, live music—or simply settle in to the Loft and enjoy art, books, sunset views.

The space
The Loft occupies the entire upper floor of The Edge, a restored 1924 mixed-use building in Historic Downtown Wilson. Below are an intimate contemporary art gallery and the working studios of artists Barb White and Sebastian Correa.

The open-plan loft feels expansive yet comfortable, with high ceilings, original heart-pine floors, skylights, and windows at both ends of the building. Natural light moves through the space throughout the day, with particularly beautiful sun and moon rises from the north windows, and sunset views from the south-facing windows.

The Loft includes:

• A king-size bed in the primary sleeping area
• A queen-size bed in a separate guest nook
• Privacy curtains and movable dividers between sleeping areas
• A spacious living area with multiple places to relax
• Two dining areas
• A reading area with books and original art
• A fully equipped galley kitchen
• A European-style bathroom with a soaking tub and rain shower
• A dedicated workspace
• A private entrance
• Exclusive use of washer and dryer
• Fast Wi-Fi
• Private parking

Although the expansive layout is open plan, the two sleeping areas are positioned at opposite ends of the Loft. Curtains and movable partitions provide visual privacy, making the space comfortable for a couple, close friends, or a small family. Guests should nevertheless be aware that these are not fully enclosed bedrooms.

The kitchen has marble counter tops, a gas range, dishwasher, quality cookware, glassware, dishes, and the essentials needed for preparing meals and drinks. Coffee and tea are provided. The spa-like bathroom features a soaking tub; a rain-head shower and soft towels.

Crisp white linens and comforters, as well as blankets, are the makings of a comfortable night's rest.

Throughout the loft, original features of the century-old building are paired with a combination of contemporary and classic furnishings, locally made pieces, collected objects, and original artwork.

The Loft is personal and thoughtfully designed rather than hotel-like—a place intended for both quiet retreat and creative inspiration, with the Downtown vibe just steps away.

Note: The Gallery and Studios below the Loft are separate working spaces and are not automatically included with the accommodation. However, access to our studios to check out what we're up to is welcomed. Or private creative experiences can be arranged depending on availability. Immersive creative retreats can be tailored to guests needs, whether it be for several days, even weeks, or just a few hours. Naturally, advance planning would be necessary.

Guest access
The Edge provides complimentary private parking conveniently located next to the building, with well-marked spaces exclusively designated for guests.

Access The Loft via a private entrance situated beside The Edge gallery, reserved exclusively for guests' use.

Neighborhood highlights

Wilson is just an hour from Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, it is great for a day trip, or more. It is also conveniently located 6 miles off the I-95, making Wilson is an ideal spot to break up a trip between New England and Florida, for example, or meet friends from different directions in a central location - Wilson.

Loft is located is located in the center of the West side of Historic Downtown Wilson, above an art gallery, and two art studios, in a newly renovated building, The Edge. The cool buildings and creative opportunities in the downtown area has prompted Wilson to become a community known for the unique experiences it offers.

The famous Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park is only the beginning of what can be seen and enjoyed in Wilson. It is amazing and something for all to enjoy and wonder at the vision of on man, to make all these amazing gigs that reach high into the sky, and turn at the slightest breeze, and positively spin, when the wind blow. The sunset views at the park are spectacular and create an amazing backdrop for the whirligigs.

As a town where artists, musicians, entrepreneurs and investors are starting to create a unique brand of attractions (even and maybe especially during Covid), one can enjoy the Whirligig Park, the Eyes on Main Street International Photographic Outdoor Exhibit, and all the interesting historic buildings.

For example, Casita Brew Co. is well known amongst fans of craft beers, and their brewery and outdoor beer garden make for a great place to hang out with friends, or just enjoy a beverage or two. Our art galleries are all uniquely different, from single artist shows, to others featuring gift offerings along with original paintings, as well as several private studios where artists can be found creating their sometimes nationally acclaimed work.

For the sweet tooth, there are several choices for candy and ice-cream, and my personal favorite is Treat Yo' Self, the fantastic bakery specializing in the best cupcakes. Several good restaurants are open for restricted indoor dining, outdoor patios, or provide take-out options. A short drive away from the Historic Downtown District are other restaurants and food establishments from which to order, or with limited dine-in options. Downtown has a great new coffee shop, Larema, which provides a huge space located in a newly renovated old building, where you can safely enjoy your beverage. (We recommend you check all business hours and offerings for these businesses online first).

Thinking about exercise? We have a brand new state-of-the-art YMCA across the road from the Loft. It features two indoor pools and an indoor track. Also, two run clubs meet up at two of the local breweries, on one Wednesday evening, the other on Sunday afternoons. Or drive 10 minutes to the Wilson Lake. It's 2 mile, groomed dirt track, circles this absolutely gorgeous lake. Bring your kayak or paddle board for even more options.

Many of our guests have chosen the Loft as a middle point to meet up with friends given Wilson's central location and proximity to I-95, I-40 and other key routes and locations.

All in all, Wilson is a place where there are things to do, open spaces to enjoy and friendly locals who will be happy to help you find what you need.
